"Xaviel, I know you're secret," Hoff said.
(What? My secret? Does he know?) Thought Xaviel.
.
.
.
"You have a Forte."
"What on earth?" Xaviel eye's widened.
(What did he just say? Forte?)Thought Xaviel."Forte. An ability possessed by the people of this continent. An ability that was bestowed upon ancestors to ancestors. By every father to their child," Hoff explained."The power to make things intangible. That's your Forte, right?"
(To make things intangible? Does he mean Phantom Armament?) Thought Xaviel.
"I don't know what you mean. But, if you mean the thing I did yesterday when we fought. Then you're right."
"How shocking! To think other people besides my son and me possess a Forte." Hoff said.
"Listen to me, Xaviel. In this part of the province. People with our powers aren't allowed to roam free. We pose an imminent threat to the Mylen family just by existing."
"Why is-"
"Shh" Hoff put his hands on Xaviel's mouth.
Hoff nudged to Xaviel and whispered, "We must not continue here. Follow me as quietly as you can".
Hoff then moved slowly to a bookshelf. His hand browsed the bookshelf and stopped at a green-colored book.
CLICK
Hoff pulled to book, which turned out to be a lever. It had opened the lower part of the shelf, revealing a trapdoor. He looks around and signals Xaviel to follow him. Then they both entered the trapdoor. As the trapdoor was closed, the lower part of the shelf returned back to its initial state.
***
Inside the trapdoor was a ladder leading to a cellar 20ft below the shack. The cellar was a simple room with 2 doors on the north and south sides. The furniture inside the basement was a table and chair, accompanied by a weapon rack and armor stand. The lighting was dimly lit because the room uses an oil lamp.
Xaviel and Hoff are now seated on the chair, facing each other between the table. "To answer your question of why Mylen family is after us is directly aligned with the very origin of our power,"
"As what I've explained, Forte was an ancestral power. But it only ever started to appear when Kyma Ryzes first inflicted a devastating blow to the battlefield. King Kyma had the ability to bend the will of sea, wind, fire, and the earth itself," Hoff explained.
"Bend the will? What does that mean?"
"I mean, using them as his own weapons against anyone that dares to oppose him. When fighting the country nearest to the sea, he created a massive tsunami to destroy the army. When fighting a country nearest to mountains, he produced hail that attacked indiscriminately. When fighting those closest to the volcanos, he forced the mountains to erupt, desolating most of the population. And made it so the former land couldn't grow anything,"
"That’s terrifying,” Xaviel said.
“It is only after that dark age did many other aristocrat families rose to power as a Lady or Lord. Every single one of those Lord/Lady possesses powers just as terrifying as the King himself. How their predecessor gained those abilities are currently unknown. Still, it is suspected to have something to do with the King. That’s why some Lord/Lady will create bounties to catch anyone that possesses that kind of power. Either to make them a slave, bodyguard, or worse.”“Mylen family was one of them. That’s why I need you to slip in and find out what or where is she stashing all the Forteans in this province. Are they safe? Can we rescue them?” Hoff continued.
“Why can’t you do this by yourselves?” Xaviel asked.
“Maru and Me were forced to swear our allegiance to Victoria Mylen, the current Lady of Mylenia. Maru served Victoria as her chief guard while I became her Economic Advisor. My father, the previous leader of the Crestia household, made a pact with the Mylen family. It is directly in line with the scandal of human exploitation that I told you before.”
“The part where other aristocrats forced Mylenia’s leader to give their worker’s rights?”
“Yes. If I were to get caught, my family would not only be cast out but potentially killed. I can’t let Quilla and Mika suffer because of me,”
“But, what would happen if they caught me?”
“Of course, Mylen would keep an eye on us. If the condition was as is,”
“What do you mean? As is?”
Hoff searched his pocket and took out a card. He wiped it and put it on the table between himself and Xaviel. “This is an Identification Card. It shows our status, occupation, and where the card is issued,” Hoff said.
The identification card reads,++Name: Hoff Praya CrestiaNobleOccupation: Court Economic AdvisorIssued: Mylenia++
“I assume you would want me to make one of these identification card for myself,”
“Yes, you’re right,” Hoff replied.
“But how would I do that?”
“In the old days, you could make Id Cards here on Mylenia province. However, that was way back before the aristocracy of this province became corrupt. No one can make Id card anymore. Thus residents of Kirzig Village can’t leave to other provinces because they don’t have Id Card,”
“Luckily for you, at the time of my visit to Heliconia. I managed to find someone in their province that can create Id Cards,”
“You mean legally? Or do you mean fake Id Cards?”
“Legally issued Id Cards,”
“Hmm, how come Heliconia issued Id Cards while Mylenia doesn’t?”
“Heliconia is a semi-tropical province. Many traders from across the continent would buy their wares. Because of this condition, their court decided to create special Id Cards for outsiders,”
“So it must mean that the Id Card is specifically intended for traders?”
“Correct. And with that Id Card, you can re-enter Mylenia as a visiting merchant,”
“I see. From there, what should I do?”
“From there, we should gather information more about the plot behind the Mylen family. But to do that, I need time to further plan so that the family don’t suspect a thing,”
“Sounds good to me. So my current task is to create a new Id card and to re-enter Kirzig Village as a traveling merchant?”
“Yes. Take this too,”
Hoff handed Xaviel a satchel.
Xaviel opened it to find a coin purse, 2 corked flasks filled with green substance, and an envelope.
“The coin purse should be enough for you to purchase Id card, Visa, and wares that you intend to re-sell. Just remember not to spend on sketchy or contraband items that might get you in trouble,”
“Alright,”
“Oh, and one more thing,” Hoff handed a piece of paper to Xaviel. “To your front is a door leading to the Underground tunnel. If you follow the path, you’ll eventually reach Heliconia. But if you follow the path to your back,” Hoff turns backward as Xaviel does the same.
“This tunnel would lead you to the Mylen Manor Forest. But in this tunnel,” Hoff went silent and opened the tunnel door. “I had already made room for you. To sleep and store your items,”
The room wasn’t the best-looking kind. However, it’s decent enough to be livable. It has another oil lamp, carpet, and a not-so-great conditioned sleeping rug supported with hay. Apart from the general looks of the room, something catches Xaviel’s eyes. Inside the room, there was another door beside the sleeping rug.
“What is that room for?”
“Ah, that room. Umm, how to explain, have you seen the Nexus tree before?”
“Nexus Tree?”
“It’s a huge tree. By huge, I mean Crazy HUGE! Inside the Mylen Forest,”
Xaviel’s head suddenly recalls back to the first time he woke up in this world.
“Yeah.. I’ve seen it before. It was the tree that pierced the clouds, was it?”
“Well, if you wanna be technical about it, yes. It ‘pierced’ the clouds,” Hoff replied. “Inside this door,” Hoff opened the door beside the sleeping rug to reveal another room that was filled with boxes of uncorked flasks and a giant tree root. “This is the room what I call a harvesting area,” Hoff continued.
“The Nexus tree is a mysterious species. Even my father didn’t know its origin nor how it grew to be so big. Then not long ago, I found an old manuscript. It records the uses of the tree sap for all-purpose medicine. However, most of the manuscript is in an ancient language which I do not fully understand. So up until now, I’ve been collecting tree sap from its root by cutting the phloem system. Then experimented on the sap to create medicines. I only managed to brew a ‘mend potion’ by combining the tree sap with blue herbs I bought at the market.”
As Hoff explained the story about the nexus tree, Xaviel nudged closer and closer to the root. Xaviel was mesmerized by the tree’s figure. Familiar feelings course through his body as a tingling sensation begins to occur. The tingle was caused by a sudden amusement and excitement that he felt. Somehow cajoling him to come closer and closer until finally. His hand touched the tree’s root.
Jolts of sparking energy formed around his hand, making the room much brighter than before, gaining Hoff’s attention.
“Xaviel?” Hoff said in confusion as he looked over to the tree’s root.
“Mr. Hoff, what is ?”
The room suddenly flashed, making Hoff flinch and fall to the ground. His eyes were hazy from the flash. After a while, he looks around the room to find that Xaviel is lying down on the floor.
“Gosh, what happened,” Hoff said as he approached Xaviel. He shook Xaviel’s body frantically. However, there’s no response from him. He remains lying on the floor, somewhat lifeless. “Hey Xaviel? Do you hear me? Xaviel!!”.
(My stomach, I feel so hungry) Thought Xaviel Xaviel opened his eyes."What the?" "Where am I?" Light blue wallpapers colored the room as electric lamps lighted the place. Books regarding yoga and self-relaxation are scattered on the cream carpet. A computer with black and blue casing still running, making noise hearable from the bed. "How am I here? How?" Xaviel said repeatedly. He is sure that all the things that happened to him weren't mere dreams. "Shhhh!!!" He silenced himself. Xaviel searched and opened his phone swiftlyClick++ 25 May 20XX11:50++ "I knew it…." (Think, Think, Think)Xaviel put bot his index finger on his head, thinking heavily about what had happened. (I woke up in forest yada yada yada, woke up next day goes to a basement and..) Xaviel then remembered moments before he woke up, -~ "…Then experimented on the sap to create medicines.
"Have you called Hoff Praya Crestia?" a neatly dressed woman said. "Yes, mistress... I have used my Forte to deliver your message," her servant replied."I guess it's just a matter of time before he gets here. Cylia, go and inform Zedafaust of the change in The Prince's plan," "Yes, my lady, at once," Cylia replied. She then joined her hands and closed her eyes, emitting a flash of violet light that dimly surrounded her body. Her eyes opened as it glowed in violet as she chanted, "AmantraNa (Call)." The light then projected vertically through the room's ceiling
Hoff Praya Crestia had managed to reach the Mylen Manor. The place was about 1,500 acres and surrounded by trees of the forest. When he entered the main entrance, a servant greeted him.“Good afternoon, Court Advisor. Mistress Mylen is currently taking her milk bath. Please wait at the throne room,” said the servant.“I thank thee for the information. I will wait for the mistress at the throne room,” said Hoff continuing his walk to the throne room.Inside the room, there’s a roundtable for the court advisors and one luxurious throne property of Lady Victoria Mylen. No one else seemed to be inside the room, making Hoff quite nervous and sceptical of his summons.(Something is wrong…) Thought Hoff. Not long after, the door opened again as Victoria and her servants entered the room. Victoria had porcelain skin, graceful long hair with pink colour, red-coloured eyes, and topped with her alluring smile.&ldqu
Xaviel closed his eyes and saw the web of icons once again. Like before, there’s only one glowing in blue color. It was the Phantom Armament icon. Xaviel reached and touched it, opening the pop-up window -+ [Phantom Armament] Objects you currently possess are converted to a ‘phantom’ state. Click to Expand -+ (What the hell should I do?) Xaviel realized and questioned the properties behind a ‘phantom’ state. (If an object became intangible, entered an object, and returned to tangible while still inside another object, what would happen?) Xaviel then simulates this phenomenon by his own logic inside his head. (It will explode! Let’s say a blood vein is suddenly filled with more oversized objects than it can hold. Without a doubt, it will explode!) “That’s it!” Xaviel shouted, and with his little energy, he used his knife imbued with Phantom Armament and stabbed th
Chapter 12: Regret Water filled Xaviel's mouth. He can feel water dripped little by little onto his mouth in his near-death state. The flavor of the water, however, tastes somewhat sweet. Like it's not even water. After a few minutes, Xaviel felt his strength was coming back. Slowly, but undoubtedly he tried to open his eyes and was very surprised to see the liquid filling his mouth was actually the tree's root sap. This, however, doesn't stop him from drinking the droplets dripping to his mouth. Instead, it made him deduct the situation. (When I killed the rat, a green goo came out. Since the blood of the rat is still present. It couldn't be part of the blood.) "Unless... It's actually a venom or virus of some sort," Before speculating further in his immobilized state, he remembered what his soon-to-be vet doctor friend told him about venoms. 'A venom is basically a poisonous substance. In terms of technicalities, it
Rushing towards the tunnel, Xaviel encountered another Giant Rat. Like before, the rat hiss towards him aggressively. Xaviel then holds out his knife, still running aiming to stab its head. The rat's movement is relatively similar to the one Xaviel had killed before. They hiss and body slam. SHRUST! Xaviel, who had anticipated this, successfully thrust his knife to its brain, this time thrusting from the upper head skull to the brain, avoiding the toxic near its chin. The creature struggles a little, and after a few seconds, it stops moving. “A clean kill..” Xaviel said as he took out the knife swiftly. As he walked through the corridors and found more rats to fight, Xaviel became more aware of his ability. He now can adequately use his power to damage certain body parts or organs by his own choice. The feeling of hunger then came, pausing his intent of killing other rats. Upon reaching the cellar room from the knob-less northern door, he
Xaviel threw his phone to the wall in anger. As his phone cracked and seemingly unusable, he lost balance and sat on his bed. Tears fell droplets at a time from his cheeks. His teeth gritted, and his fist clenched. DING-DONG Xaviel's doorbell suddenly rang. He rose from the bed while wiping the tears from his eyes though not discarding the red tint on his eyes, and opened the door where a man wearing a red uniform said to him. “Package for Xaviel A. Mobius?” "That’s me.” “Great. Sign here, please.” The man handed a pen, and Xaviel wrote down his signature on the papers presented to him. “Who’s it from?” “Umm. Robert E. Mobius.” The man said as he read the packaging label. Xaviel went to a shock. That name. It can’t be. What trial will he be facing this time? As soon as the man hands Xaviel the package, he slams the door closed and locks it. He desperately searched for a cutter in his bedroom and began to
“If this was a minor hacking device, I wouldn’t have given you a new phone. It’s a much more major problem than that,” Robert replied.“What is it then?”DUR DUR DUR DURSuddenly the door to Xaviel’s house was constantly slammed.“Espionage.”[1]The situation at hand made Xaviel quite nervous. Someone really does seem to be spying on him. This made him doubt every person he met before moving to this neighborhood. He began to breathe heavily out of sheer pressure.Realizing that overthinking the situation was quite useless. He took short interval breathing, calming himself down against the situation. Composure is really the only way he could get through this.“Everything would be fine. As long as I keep calm and decide carefully,” Xaviel plays with his hair. After a few seconds, he opened the front door to see that there was no longer someone there. What was left was a pin
The Fisherman and I follow Jack Nelson as the party ends instead of using a horse carriage or chariot like the other guests. They used a rather peculiar cart that used petrol and ran on wheels. I am familiar with that kind of cart. It's called a 'car' rather than a cart. People in Estovania used it quite a lot, yet they didn't first develop it. Most state-of-the-art stuff originated in Willhelmia or the 'Prince' region."That cart is very fast; how are we supposed to follow it?" I said."WOA-!" Fish shouted a little before I instinctively shut his mouth with my hands. "Shut the hell up, dumbass. We'll get caught!" I whispered as I slightly tightened my grip on his mouth. He reacted by nodding up and down. Only then did I release his mouth from my grasp."But why are you here, Vice-Boss Duke Hebsly?" He blatantly said."Don't say my name so casually. Dammit! And What else do you think I am here for? I am here to help you spy on Jack Nelson!" I replied."But the boss didn't say a thing a
“Excuse me sirs and madam. I am here to serve wine.” A male servant went inside the table where the conspirators of Seraphinania is sitting. He placed the glass one by one, as another servant poured it down.“A perfect time for a drink isn’t it?” Oswald Leysom said enticing everyone to touch their respective glasses.“There might be some rough sides to this plan of ours. Yet, with all the people here, I am pretty sure we can pull it through quite nicely.” Ms. Eye said with confidence before glancing at Mr. Jones. “By the by, is Jones here the one who used to sell opium to the Molosno family?”Mr. Jones looks around as the attention turns towards him. “Yes. As a matter of fact, I am. Yet ever since one year ago, the distributor position for my opium is vacant.”“I see.” Ms. Eye drinks her wine before speaking again, “Then you indeed are Thomas Hebsly.”“Wonderful guess, Madam. How could you ever guess who he was?” Oswald said, making everyone else except Mr. Jones giggle. “I see. Then
I walked with The Fisherman, Duke, and Gilman, who were now dressed as servants. They do look the part, but maybe Fisherman’s scar on his face gave it away that he wasn’t a servant.“Hey, you put this on,” I said giving him a bandage and instructing him to put it on his left cheek.“Will do, Boss-man!” Fisherman said.“Hey, it's hard to say 'Fisherman' all the time! Don’t you have a name we can call you by?” Gilman said.“Hmm, sure I have,” Fisherman smiled. He opened his mouth and said, “People usually call me Fish.”Duke flattened his eye annoyed by Fish’s and Gilman’s banter.“You know what, whatever. Fish is good enough.” Gilman said. “Oh yeah, everyone can call me Gil.”“Guys, I don’t want to break your spirits here. But you shouldn’t use your real name. We’re here to spy on people- You know what? I shouldn’t even be explaining all this to you two! Boss what the hell is wrong with these two!” Duke suddenly got heated up due to the stupidity of the other two people in our group.I
Jack Nelson, Mr. Jones, Oswald Leysom, Diana Mitchford. These four people are the key players in this grand design.A person of power in the shadows in Hestiania. The fearsome leader of the mafias in that region, Jack Nelson. He is also the sponsor and promoter of Sophaya. The other, Mr. Jones, was a man who originated from Estovania and later formed his own Mafia family here in Heliconia. He is my boss and mentor.Oswald Leysom, A politician from Estovania, is known for his poetry and political views that are down-to-earth and helpful to the citizens of Hestiania. Finally, the owner of the party, soon to be Oswald's wife, Ms. Diana Mitchford. A noble originating from Seraphinania that is known to have quite far-right political views.Together, they represent 4 great powers: Hestiania, Heliconia, Estovania, and Seraphinania. Though maybe not the power that is open in the light but the one lurking in the shadows. Documents have been provided by Mr. Jones himself indicating that they ar
A few days after the situation at the safe house, rumors of Sophaya, The Screaming Cinderella’s kidnap, began to surface. No doubt, this led to many people assuming Razor Peaks was the conspirator. Even though no one has asked us directly yet, I hear words regarding the situation, particularly through the words of the woman who wore the uniform.“Thanks for the drink,” I said while sitting in the chair inside the inn I stayed at.“Thank you for the drink, Missy!” Gilman said towards the woman in uniform.Yet, she can’t help but make a scrawny face. Unfortunately for Gilman, she remembered his face, which was the man who extorted her inn for money for quite some time. I drank my morning coffee, which alleviated my drowsiness. “Boss, it’s been quite a few days. Should we start the relocation again?”As per my planning, it is imperative for Sophaya to be relocated every three days due to many parties involved who wanted to kidnap her for ransom money. Of course, I can’t take her to the i
It’s been exactly one year since his arrival at Heliconia and his conditioning. 3 months of re-education and 9 months of training. Even from the first time I saw him, Shankara had shown potential, particularly in Forte, abling to rival wielders of the aristocrat. I believe he has now been honed into the perfect soldier for Razor Peaks. There is no doubt in his abilities and loyalty to some extent. So, today’s test will measure whether he will continue to develop or stagnate.“Sir, a call from Jack Nelson,”Now, the main event is about to start too.***Arriving at the scene, I looked at the safehouse, which no doubt had been bombarded, and noticeable damage had been sustained on the building.“Gilman, stay on the lookout when you have the chance to enter the building and proceed with our plan,” I ordered him, to which he nodded. As I began to walk towards the building, someone emerged from the front door. “I suppose you have arrived already, Mr. Shankara.” A woman greeted me. She was
As soon as I went to check on Sophaya, I only found her bodyguards bodies severely injured. Someone had already destroyed and ransacked the V.I.P. room. No, I am pretty sure at least 5 people were inside. As they finished their kidnap and ransacked the room, they escaped through the intended backdoor, I had previously ordered Sophaya to go.“Sorry sir, It’s all…” Duke said.“It was my decision. It’s my mistake.”Although we lost Sophaya, we found out the motive behind the kidnapping from the members of the Billy Pickers we caught earlier. The remaining lackey blurted out all the details that he knew. From the looks of it, I don’t think he could lie anymore, but I can never be too careful.I grabbed the telephone from the bar counter and dialled Mr Jones.“Mr. Jones, emergency meeting.”***“Who talked?” That was Mr. Jones's reaction.I didn’t respond. He put out his cigarette and sighed before standing up. Me and I were now inside Mr. Jones's office. It was quite a big room; his desk
“Mr. Ankara, what a pleasant surprise. I thought you wouldn’t be coming to the test concert,” Sophaya said to me with a warm smile, though the fakeness of that smile oozed an aura of anger.“Sorry, I was on a date,” I spoke back.“Ah, I didn’t know you were spoken for.” She complimented me with a witty gesture. The perfect solution to this matter actually would be to interrogate her right this instant. But, I wonder if that would play well to her since she obviously suspected something had happened.“I believe we had something to discuss about Mr. Ankara. Perhaps shall we discuss it now?”Understanding her cue, I followed up with an invitation: “Shall we go to my private room?” I said, offering my hand. But to my surprise, she walked past me with a slightly disgusted look and said, “Please show the way, Mr. Ankara.”Unlike her body double it seems she has a higher touch barrier.Indeed, her mannerisms are different than how they used to be.Confirming the possibility to a degree that t
“Good Morning, Mr. Ankara.” The woman in uniform greeted me as I walked down the inn's floor.“Morning. Black Coffee and Bread.” I replied as I wiped my eyes, walking to my usual spot.“White or Brown?” She asked, holding her broom in her right hand.“Brown,” I replied as she turned for a smile. “Will be served soon!” The woman then went to the counter and talked to her mother. I opened my newspaper today and began to read the news. News about a growing business came to mind. Bootleggers of goods in Heliconia are still at large. Trading up to the Avaloria province, where the merchants resided on the continent,The tavern door opened, and Duke Hebsly entered with an unexplainable expression as he sat down in the chair in front of me. “What brings you here?” I said without making eye contact with Duke.“The man you told me to watch. He said he’ll comply.”“Good. Things will be easier that way. Did he give you his telephone number?”“Yeah, it’s all in this paper,” Duke said as he gave me
