In the blink of an eye, all the sirens in the room disappeared—except for Selena. She continued to stare at Alkan, her eyes holding an emotion he couldn't quite decipher.

How many centuries had it been since a sawikin last set foot beneath the river? Selena still remembered how her mother had forbidden her from venturing onto land because of the winged beings that ruled the skies. They were a different kind, not their equals, her mother had said. The creatures called sawikin were dangerous, and if she ever encountered one, she must never approach it—she must flee at once.

For those who could swim and those who could fly would never see eye to eye.

But Selena had always been stubborn as a child. Instead of running from the sawikin she saw by the riverbank, her curiosity led her closer. She introduced herself to the sawikin.

For years, they secretly met, and when she became the leader of the siren tribe, she invited the sawikin to visit the depths of the river. He agreed, though

Alkan let out a deep sigh. The mermaids were currently troubled by the sudden increase of sawikin on the river's surface. They were worried that if they went out, the sawikin would capture them. The mermaids needed to go to land to gather food for Alkan. Since he was a mortal and had different dietary needs, a group of mermaids would travel to land once a month to collect food. However, two months had passed, and they still couldn't leave due to the growing number of sawikin on the river’s surface."B-But—""The king will not go to—""I will go," he interrupted the silver-haired mermaid. The six mermaids turned to him, so he smiled. "Where is the council chamber? I'll follow you," he said to the attendant. If it weren’t for the food problem, he wouldn’t have gone. Besides, something was urging him to go. He had a feeling that food wasn’t the only issue—it was also about the sawikin on the river’s surface. Something bad was about to happen, and he

The lands of Tribal were vast. While soaring through the sky, Alkan could see the territory ruled by the White Wing Tribe. Unlike the south, which was shrouded in darkness, the western lands were bathed in light as the sun peeked through the clouds. What amazed him was that despite flying under the midday sun, he did not feel its scorching heat. Instead, it felt as if he were submerged in lukewarm water—just the right temperature for him. They flew past clusters of houses. Alkan was even more astonished when he saw creatures with small wings on their backs. However, what puzzled him was how fast they ran, as if they were incapable of flight.Moments later, they passed by another group of beings that suddenly appeared out of nowhere. His eyes widened when he saw two of them soaring through the air—despite having no wings attached to their backs. The two creatures noticed the passing sawikin carrying Alkan. Then, suddenly, the female exorcist came to his mind. His brows furrowed as he asked, “Does the White Palace govern the exorcist tribe?” Manuel turned to him. “Did you meet the female exorcist?” Alkan nodded. “I saw her by the river in Tribal. But I lost consciousness, and when I woke up, I was in the mermaids’ nest. What happened to the female exorcist? Why didn’t she appear in the mermaids’ domain?” “A week ago, we received a message from the female exorcist. She is now in the Black Palace. She wrote down your location and informed us of the sirens’ plan to rebel. Because of this, we sent more soldiers from the Black Army to locate the sirens’ nest.” Alkan’s ears perked at what he heard. “The Black Palace?” Wasn’t that the place where the black sawikin had taken Valeria? Manuel looked at him, as if reading his thoughts. “Yes, the Black Palace. It is the stronghold that conquered the southern and eastern regions of Tribal. It is also the palace ruled by the black sawikin wh

Alkan's lips pressed into a thin line. He would have preferred not to hear that truth. Still, he didn’t refuse the offer and left the training grounds. He could feel the odd stares of the sawikin as he walked away. It seemed like more people were glaring at him now than before. Several days passed, and he continued training. The general helped him strengthen his body, and Alkan was pleased with the results. He no longer get tired easily, and his legs and arms felt stronger. One day, when Alkan arrived at the training grounds, the sawikin were whispering among themselves, casting hostile glances his way. None of them wanted to train beside him. He paused mid-step and turned around, searching for the source of the voice. He saw a man standing in the distance. He didn’t recognize him, but based on the way the man acted, he clearly knew Alkan. Was this what life in showbiz was like? You didn’t know them, but they all knew you. Alkan simply nodded at the man in response. Gio wasted no time. He grabbed Alkan and soared into the sky. Even though it wasn’t his first time flying, Alkan still felt the anxiety grip his chest. But he didn’t show it. A few minutes later, they reached the portal. Before Alkan could even prepare himself, Gio flew straight through it. When Alkan crossed over, a cold gust of wind greeted him. He stopped in his tracks and stared ahead. The area was surrounded by trees, the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves filling the air as branches swayed gently. The cool breeze was refreshing. San Roque. The land where he grew up. How many months had it been since he last set foot in the place where he

After his conversation with Gio, the sawikin had left. That was also when Valeria and Alkan went to their respective rooms. They hadn’t spoken since. If what Gio said was true, it was best that they didn’t discuss Tribal. Alkan immediately believed him—Gio had no reason to lie. So he decided to focus on planning his next move. "You skipped lunch, so I prepared a lot," Valeria said. They were currently eating dinner that his wife prepared for the both of them. Valeria watched him, and when she noticed he had no intention of speaking, she sighed. "Alkan," she called, her voice serious. He looked at her. "Are you avoiding me?" she asked. His hand, holding a spoon, froze mid-air. He blinked and opened his mouth. "No," he said. "Then why won’t you talk to me?" His brows drew together slightly. For some reason, he felt as if a snake were staring him down as Valeria faced him. Her gaze was unfamiliar. It was as if a different person was sitting before him, though it was clea

Gio narrowed his eyes at Alkan as the latter fell from the air. His fists clenched as he frowned. He didn’t like what had just come out of Alkan’s mouth. Why? What was so wrong about saving people? Wasn’t Alkan a human too? Why did he have no concern for his fellow humans? Gio scanned the entirety of San Roque. From the sky, he could see people running, helpless souls who didn’t know how to save themselves from danger. No matter where they ran, there was no direction, no order. It was pure chaos. He shut his eyes tightly and took a deep breath. Swiftly, he dived down to chase after the falling Alkan. He cursed under his breath. What was he thinking? Why did he let go of that man? If anything bad happened to Alkan, Manuel would surely kill him. He caught Alkan midair. Peering at the man’s face, he noticed that he was unconscious. Gio sneered. Sometimes, he wondered if the prophecy had made a mistake in choosing Alkan. The man was too weak. How was he supposed to bring down the trib

The sun shone brightly, and its rays hit Alkan’s closed eyes. He frowned, slowly opening them as he sat up from the grass. He let out a deep breath. It had been seven years since his family died in an accident. All of his parents’ assets had been passed down to him, but he was too lazy to manage everything. So, he decided to buy several hectares of land in Alegria to turn into a farm. He entrusted his most reliable staff to handle the companies left behind in the city. Just the other day, while negotiating with a landowner, a man suddenly called out to him. The man claimed to be a priest whom Alkan had saved from the Black Palace. But Alkan denied it, thinking the stranger was mentally unstable. Because of that weird encounter, he decided to postpone his land purchase. His assistant came running toward him. "Good day, Sir!" "Did something happen?" he asked, standing up. "The office in the city called. They said your travel documents for your flight to Europe have been proces

Her name was Matilda, one of the loyal followers of the ancient king. Since the first century, when the king fell into slumber, and up until Alkan’s time, the woman had remained faithfully by his side. She was also the one who set Alkan’s destiny in motion, leading him to this dimension. "Your ancestor was the descendant of the ancient king. He sent his own heir to another dimension to keep them safe from those who lusted after power." Matilda sighed. "At that time, not a day passed without blood spilling upon this land. When the ancient king learned that others sought to kill his only heir, he did not hesitate to use half of his power to open a portal to a world he believed would accept them." Alkan stared at the sleeping man. Time had not affected his appearance—in a single glance, one might mistake the ancient king for his older brother. "He tasked me with setting the fate of his descendant’s heir so they would one day return to this world—to save a land filled with conflic

The rain fell gently that day. The entire land was silent after the third region was consumed by fire. The rain had not stopped since that day, filling the witnesses of the gods’ and goddesses’ wrath with unease. But what everyone anticipated was the next move of the one who had dared to challenge the strongest beings in that world. "Master, there is still no movement from the first region," Asha reported. Alkan swung his sword slowly. At that moment, he was studying a new form of combat. He had discovered this mysterious technique from books salvaged from Ashura’s palace. After the palace burned, Asha’s serpents had found a secret door that remained untouched by the flames. She informed him, so he went to investigate and found an ancient library. It contained many old tools and battle techniques. According to Drako, they were from the first century—the era of the ancient king. Without hesitation, Alkan took everything and began studying them. "But a strange creature has been

Alkan nodded. "They never witnessed any movement in or out of the wasteland." He turned toward the third region. "And it seems there's an imposter among the ministers of Ashura’s palace." "What do you mean?" "No one should have known about the pit inside the wasteland unless they had planted a spy. But I rule the wasteland, and no one from the third region has infiltrated it. This can only mean… that minister is from the first region! We need to return—it’s a trap!" he declared, flying back to the third region. Just as Alkan suspected, the minister who first spoke at the meeting was an agent of the palace from the first region. Once he confirmed that Alkan was in the wasteland, he quickly signaled his allies stationed around the third region. A battalion stormed and took over Bendito, another army occupied Ashura, and the prince of the first region went to Celes to seize the queen. Whe

Alkan’s appearance never returned to the way it once was. His hair and eyes remained split in two colors. But that didn’t stop the monsters from recognizing him as their new master. He had no choice but to accept the position laid before him. Now, three regions of the world followed him: the wasteland, the third region, and the second region. Yet, despite having the power to command these territories, his concerns in the past few days had not disappeared. There had been no movement from the first region, which puzzled him. Based on the information he had gathered, the first region would never retreat unless they were planning something ominous. "Master, my serpents cannot enter the first region. There is a barrier repelling all monsters at the entrance. They tried to circle around,

"It has been millennia since I last saw you. You were just a small child then, but now, here you are, planning to slaughter the very beings who once nurtured you." Alkan clenched his fists at the words. "Nurtured?" He let out a dry laugh. "You stole my power and stripped me of my freedom in the name of the fairy kingdom. You murdered my parents. All you've ever done is ruin my life and the lives of the beings in Tribal!" A smile played on the anito’s lips. "Why wouldn’t we? The inhabitants of Tribal are nothing but weak creatures. A mere flick of our fingers, and your lives would vanish into the wind. Shouldn’t you be afraid of the council? And yet, what happened? You established three kingdoms and enslaved all the beings in Tribal. You made yourselves gods, but… before us, you are nothing more than an ant." "An ant?" Alkan laughed at the insult. "So that’s how you see Tribal?" His grin widened. "Why don’t you ask the gods and goddesses of the first region who the real ants are? Did

"Silence!" the general shouted, continuing his attack. Alkan dodged repeatedly, occasionally slashing the general’s face. By now, the general’s entire body was covered in bruises and wounds, and his blood wouldn’t stop dripping. Alkan’s brows furrowed. He had no time for this fight, so he decided to end it. Alkan conjured a whirlwind mixed with water. Arelano narrowed his eyes and released shadows that engulfed the entire palace. But shadow manipulation was also one of Alkan’s abilities, so the darkness had no effect on him. He spread the four-colored flames from his feet, sending them across the furniture, up to the ceiling, until the entire palace was engulfed in fire. With the darkness dispelled, he saw sweat forming on Arelano’s face due to the heat. The corner of his lips curled. "Is that all you’ve got?" "Don't get ahead of yourself, mortal!" Arelano shouted, summoning two massive black wings on his back. They spread wide, creating a powerful gust of wind that extinguished the flames and once again covered the surroundings in darkness. Drako transformed into a dragon, while Asha turned into a serpent. The two worked together to defeat Arelano, while Alkan focused on casting a curse.
