“Also, you're going to have to talk to a lot of people, seeing as you're Mr. Delaney.”

He didn't really care. His ex wife could be the host for all he cared, if he had to be there, he would. Plus, talking to people wasn't a big deal so long as he didn't have to pretend to like them.

“What do I need to know about this Ball?”

Taking a deep breath, Angela started downloading all the information she knew about the ball; all the powerful people that usually attended, how they loved to flaunt their money, how they tended to be classless at times and how one or two people would get drunk and cause a scene.

“Sounds delightful,” he jeered as he pulled into his driveway.

“Wait till you experience it.”

The next day came and he had his suit prepared and shoes polished. Angela really was the best right hand he could ask for.

He decided he wanted to take one of the fancier, older cars and Angela had already had it delivered.

“I'd give you a raise but you probably already make a million dollars," he

So much had been happening that Damien hadn't noticed her beauty. Even though she wore the same uniform as Jan and the other lady, it was clear she'd had hers tailored to fit, and fit her, it did. She made no attempt to hide her luscious curves and tempting cleavage. Despite all that, her face was her selling point. She was so pretty she gave Angela a run for her money. "I'll hold you to that," Damien said, returning her smile."I'll do my best to please you, sir. You can call me Krissy, " she returned, twirling her hair.Angela was getting irritated by her obvious flirting. "We should go in," she said.Damien couldn't help smiling at the edge in her voice. Krissy acted as a guide, showing them their assigned seat at the very front row. Damien couldn't help noticing how much her hips swayed as she walked. Her skirt stretched tight over her toned butt was such a sight to behold. Everytime, they rounded a corner, she would glance at him over her shoulder with a sweet smile as if to co

He stretched out his hand to give Angela a hug but she held out a hand to stop him. She already couldn't stand him sober. She couldn't begin to imagine a drunk version of him. "Oh Angela, my ego is bruised. Is this about the restaurant? I apologise. It was all that bastard's fault. Out of the corner of his eyes, he sighted Courtney. He knew she'd had her eyes on his since he walked into the hall. That was fine until she started approaching him. He opted to ignore her to face Raymond. Maybe he would help scare her off. "Two things," Damien started. "I know who my father is and you're making a fool of yourself." Raymond's head slowly turned once he realised who had just spoken. An unbridled anger that shook his whole body consumed him. He reached into his tuxedo and pulled out something that glinted in the brightly lit room. Damien instinctively pulled Angela behind him. Everyone hit the floor as the bang of gunfire echoed through the room. "Lay down, all of you!" A gruff

The room had devolved into chaos. Screams and yelling could be heard all through. Smoke engulfed the spot Damien and the men had been standing at. Angela was hyperventilating. She had one job and she had monumentally failed. How would she ever be able to face Daniel? Courtney couldn't believe what had just happened. Why would he do that? What was he thinking? She glanced at Angela, seeing the woman panic. Did he do it for her? He did, he had to have. Rage bubbled in her heart. The bastard had moved on that fast? Did he ever really love her? No man who truly loved his woman would let her go so readily or move on so easily. Good riddance to him then. If she couldn't have him, it was best no one else did.Movement from inside the smoke caught her eye and then someone gasped. Out of the smoke, Damien came striding out, wearing a cape and crown like a medieval king."All hail the king," chanted the gunmen. "What the hell is happening?" Angela asked as Damien helped her to her feet.Ever

He looked at the massive gash across his palm from trying to parry the knife swing too late. The crowd was buzzing now. Guffaw and shrill exclamations could be heard all around. What they were being treated to was nothing short of a spectacle. First they had been threatened with fake guns, now they were treated to the sight of fake bleeding. The Merry Weather Charity has really stepped up their game. Damien needed to focus. But who were they? Raymond had promised to make him pay. Were they hired by his father? If they were, he didn't know their strength so he could immediately incapacitate the buffoon welding a knife. He had to be patient, watch how they reacted. Feeling confident from his last attack, Raymond swung wide again. This time, Damien slipped out of the way to let the idiot's momentum do the damage, but he couldn't resist hooking a leg under him to trip him up. Raymond tumbled in spectacular fashion, stirring the crowd into a frenzy of laughter and applause. Unfortunat

"Our methods are unconventional. Do not interfere," the leader of the grey suits said. They'd insisted that they must blindfold Angela to keep the location of their base a secret. She'd protested and argued but eventually relented seeing Damien's unconscious body. She’d gotten into their van and held onto his hand the whole way there. Although she couldn't see, she knew when they'd arrived. The van lurched to a halt, sending her sliding all around. “We're here. Take it off. Get him inside, quick.”Angela took off the blindfold just in time to see the man taking his unconscious body out of the van.She followed them down a long hallway that seemed to lead to a dead end but the leader rubbed stone jutting out of the wall and the wall parted, sliding apart like elevator doors. They all walked in but the man stopped Angela, much to her frustration.“What now?” she flared.“This is where you stop. Women and children are not allowed past this point.”All the secrecy, the sneakiness. By th

At the last second, Damien rolled off the bed, hitting the ground with a this, wincing at the incessantly stinging pain in the process.Angela saw Damien’s body disappear on the other side of the bed and saw red. She promised no one would lay hands on him and she'd be damned if she broke it.Garth, the damn brute, had all his attention on getting to Damien so it was easy to hook the strap of her purse around his neck and flip him over. He crashed into a pile of boxes just outside the room but before she could run to check on Damien, he was up and had a hand around the back of her neck.Angela froze. She could tell he was strong but she was sure there was enough time. He wasn't only strong but fast? In the state he was in Damien was in trouble against this guy. What the hell was going on?She started to feel his hand squeezed around her neck, slow and steady. “What time is it?” Angela's eyes snapped open to stare at Damien. They'd had him patched up again and made her feed him a pungent smelling tea to aid him recovery. “Sometime in the morning,” she said. “How are you feeling?”Damien checked his hand. The bandage had been changed and surprisingly, there was no pain whatsoever. Not in his hand or any part of his body. “Great.” Angela had to restrain herself from rolling her eyes. “Like you can run a marathon?”“I mean it,” he insisted. “I actually feel good.” He sprang to his feet, kicking and punching the air before turning to Angela who had a look of horrified worry on her face.“Damien, you almost bled out.”“I didn't,” he said with an edge in his voice. As worried as she was, he was still her boss, not her son. She decided to change the subject.“You've gotten really popular since the ball. Women are fawning all over you, they're calling you the new Mr. Delaney.”He hadn't realised how much of a wave he'd made at the ball but when

Damien was sure he was in there for only a few minutes but by the time he came out, the sun was already rising. He gazed puzzled at the stars. “Time in the cave is different. Don't let it overwhelm you small mind,” Garth said. “Something to do with the mystic arts?” he asked. It had to be. Plus the fact that most people in the room, including his grandfather, seemed to vanish into thin air. That was probably just a secret passage. That would be on brand with a secret society. “Fulfil your tasks and I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually. You are not…” Garth's voice trailed off when he saw Angela walking towards them. “Are you done with your cult meeting?” she asked. “It's not a cult,” Garth snapped. This was why they kept their society secret. So shallow minded individuals didn't label them wrongly. “I wasn't talking to you.” Angela's glare was palpable as she fired back at Garth. The very presence of the brute pissed her off, not to speak of his voice. Damien couldn't

It had been a hectic couple of days so I decided I was going to shut everything out and actually enjoy my vacation time.Dad, once again, was hounding me to wrap up my me-time and get back to work. The whole point of vacation was to de-stress. As far as things went, it had been nothing but stress.I was trying to relax in a lounge chair in a hot spring resort when my phone rang, jarring me and everyone around me.“Sorry,” I whispered, seeing all their pissed off faces. The caller ID showed it was dad. I hesitated, wondering if I should ignore the call, not wanting to be lectured about ignoring my responsibilities. But I ultimately picked it up.“Hey, Dad.”“Get home. Now!” his gruff voice boomed directly into my ears, making me cringeEven though he was my dad and I knew he would never hurt me, I started panicking. What could have made him so serious? The fact that he was so direct, with no explanation whatsoever made it even worse. My mind raced faster than my car as I sped home, fig

Tristan gave me a questioning look but dropped it when I gave him a sweet smile.“I heard you're still working with Deandra,” Sadie said. Her tone was neutral but the implication was crystal clear.“You heard?” I asked, raising an eyebrow at her. “Well, Tristan told me. He said he warned you against it. You would think your mentor's words would be enough to convince you, but I guess not.”This woman was hellbent on getting on my nerves. But Tristan stepped in, stopping me from speaking my honest mind.“Oh stop, Sadie. I'm her mentor, not her micromanager. She's an adult. I'm sure she knows what she's doing. Sadie scoffed, casually taking another sip of wine. “If she's working with that… woman, I'm not sure she does.”This bitch. I wanted to rip her hair right off her scalp. I didn't realize how long I was glaring at her until Tristan touched my arm, jarring me back to consciousness.“Remi, are you sure everything's okay? You seem… distracted,” he said.My heart ached at his concern.

I was on my bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking about my life and how things got so complicated.Jesse had practically gone off the deep end, asking to be part of my revenge on Oscar. I was delaying telling Deandra because I knew how much she loved drama; she would welcome Jesse with open arms, potentially other open things too. And then there was Sadie. She had been calling and texting, but after my meeting with Deandra and the soft- reveal that Sadie wasn’t how she seemed, I decided I’d keep my distance. My phone rang again. I was at my limit with her. I picked it up to scream at her to stop calling me but froze when I saw the caller.Sighing, I answered. “Hey, Tristan.”His voice was calm and soothing. Such a jarring contrast to the storm of thoughts and emotions going through my mind. “Hey, Remi. It’s been a while. How are you holding up?” he asked, his words laced with genuine concern. My heart started racing. I knew this wasn’t a casual check-in because Tristan never called w

    Chapter 46

Daniel levelled a glare and Arthur. “Control your grandbrat!”Arthur shrugged a smug smile on his face. He had stopped the last fight between the two young men too soon and knew Garth was eager to get his revenge. “They are men. Let them settle their issues between themselves. And it is suspicious how he seemed to find it so quickly, isn’t it? I’m sure you must have helped him.”“I did not. He is a capable young man. How long did your grandson take to find him again?” Daniel asked, now wearing his own smug smile. The news that Damien had found his Celladona in a month had spread around the society like wildfire. Daniel himself was shocked beyond belief. He knew that Damien was proficient – he was his blood after all – but even he had been surprised. Arthur’s frown made Daniel even more proud of his grandson. “You helped him. Stop lying,” Arthur seethed. “It’s not against any laws to do that but he can’t go around claiming merit for something he didn’t do. Own up!”“Ask him yourself,

    Chapter 45

Daniel knew what that bastard Arthur was doing. Entice Damien with insane strength so he would forgo the medical secret. To be honest, Daniel wouldn’t blame Damien if he went with either of the other two options. He was a young man once and he definitely understood the allure.Garth too was anticipating Damien’s answer. He always knew Damien was a selfish scumbag. Him falling for Arthur’s trick would only confirm that notion.By now, it was pretty obvious to everyone that Damien was going to go with either a martial arts secret or a Mystic art secret. How could he not? It hadn’t been a hard decision for them at all. It shouldn’t have been for him either but then Arthur had pulled out all the stops and had a demonstration done for him. A ripple of mocking snickers came from the crowd; he must have been feeling stupid now for choosing a medical secret.“I’m confident that I can fulfill any tasks you throw at me in record time, so the other secrets are within my reach anyway. A week had gone by and Damien was getting ready for his secret ceremony. He could hardly hide his eagerness, as he restlessly paced the house on the eve of his ceremony.“You know, this won’t make it come any faster,” Angela said, getting distracted from her work by his constant pacing. She was right but he couldn’t bring himself to settle down. “Do you realize what’s going to happen tomorrow?” He asked, confused by how casually she was taking the whole thing.Angela rolled her eyes. “Yes. You’re having a cult meeting.”“Sure, but seriously. I’m getting a secret. I’m leveling up. Do you understand that?”“You’re already pretty great as you are,” Angela muttered shyly, glancing away so he wouldn’t meet her gaze.He stared at her, wanting to say something but the anticipation of what was to come was at the forefront of his mind.“The Aston is fueled right?” he asked, changing the subject.“Always,” Angela replied, grateful for the tension release but a little hurt that he didn’t acknow

Having already seen him coming, Angela sprung into action, sending Andy sprawling backward with a fist to the gut, milliseconds from the bat hitting Damien square in the face.Andy hit the ground with a painful thud, howling in pain and sputtering like a misfiring exhaust.“Courtney, what the hell are you doing with this bastard?” he croaked in between agonized wheezes, glaring daggers at Damien.Courtney was beside herself. Worry, confusion, anger, desire; all these emotions swirled around in her head, rooting her to the spot. She wanted to go to Andy to check on him but what would Damien think about that? And that bitch with him, she would try to make it seem worse than it looked to Damien.Damien stared down at him with a smirk. “Seems you’re back on your feet. I barely even laid hands on you and it took you weeks to heal up? What a joke,” Damien said with a chuckle. If looks could kill, Damien would have been a pile of ash from the scorching glare Andy was giving him. “I have noth

Courtney’s eyes grew wide, flabbergasted that he would say something like that and embarrass her in the presence of his new woman. Did he ever even love her? Her gaze traveled between Damien and Angela as if trying to remind him they weren’t alone. “Or have you decided that his son’s dick is enough for you?” Damien followed up, his voice dripping with disdain. Courtney’s eyes brimmed with tears. “Why the hell are you asking me this, Damien? What does this have to do with us? I’m sorry, okay? I made a mistake and I regret it every day. We need to let go of the past if we’re going to get back together.” Angela burst into a mocking laugh making Courtney’s face further redden. She felt her ears getting burned and the room started to spin. She couldn’t believe the man who claimed to love her all those years was treating her like a common five-dollar whore. “Get back together? Who said anything about that?” Damien asked, raising an eyebrow. The woman was truly delusional to think he w

    Chapter 42

“I’m fine, Damien. What, are you going to follow me into the bathroom next?” Angela asked with a giggle. Ever since their experience with Don Simenn, Damien had been borderline obsessive with Angela’s safety. Everywhere they went, he would scan the place like a hawk, searching for potential trouble. If someone so much as breathed wrong in her direction, he was alert and ready to take them down. That bastard Saul was going to pay dearly, he thought. Although Angela found it endearing how much he cared about her, it was starting to get overbearing. Damien glanced at her as if she’d asked if the sky was blue. “You’re not following me into the bathroom,” Angela snapped, trying to hide her blush. He rolled his eyes. “Fine.” His phone rang. At this point he didn’t need to check to see who it was because the person had blown up his phone so much, he set a custom ringtone. “Her again?” Angela asked. “I don’t understand why you don’t just block her.” She knew he didn’t love
