While Gabriel walked along the street, Riggs, who was in the direction he was walking towards, began coming in his direction too.
As they came close, about to pass each other, Riggs deliberately hit him, but he did it as though it was a mistake and was all Gabriel's fault. The items he was holding were dropped to the ground.
"What is wrong with you, kid?!" Riggs began to shout. "Don't you have eyes to watch where you are going? Why can't young men like you just concentrate on where they are going and stop looking around like some fools or thieves? This is actually the fourth time people like you hit me this morning. Or did you all plan it? You want to still somi from right?! Why am I even asking you this? It's obvious, you all are thieves. But the fact that the others failed you too is going to fail."
Riggs was saying all this without observing a pause or taking breath. He was sounding very mad and Gabriel did not know what to say to calm him. He believed he was the one at fault so there was nothing he could say to justify himself. All he did was to bend down and pick the goods which had fallen from Riggs.
As he was picking up those stuff, Riggs quietly and secretly slotted gold jewelry into Gabriel's sack.
Kevin and Gross just stood at their distance watching what was going on. They had no idea what Riggs was doing until the moment they noticed him put something into Gabriel's sack. That was when they had a clue of what he was doing.
After a minute, Gabriel got back on his feet with the items all packed back into Riggs' sack.
"I'm sorry sir. Here is your stuff. I didn't mean it. And I'm also not a thief nor am I with anybody. As you can see, I'm all by myself." He hands over the sack back to Riggs, yet he did not notice him. His mind was no longer focused on recognizing anyone but on clarifying his personality.
Riggs forcefully grabbed his sack from Gabriel's hand. "Sorry for yourself! Hope you did not take anything?"
"Of course I did not."
"I wasn't expecting you to answer me because I know that is what you will say."
Gabriel was not sure that he was looking for trouble, so he just continued his walk to avoid any further embarrassment because so many eyes were now on them.
As he moved some steps away, Riggs pretended as if he was looking for something in the sack and then he instantly turned as he shouted. "Stop that thief...!"
And the people in his front laid hold of Gabriel because they had seen what transpired between them.
"Let go of me... I didn't steal anything..." Gabriel was begging as more people surrounded him. Kevin and Gross also joined them.
"Where is it...?!" Riggs was asking him with all manner of seriousness.
"Where is what...? I didn't take anything...?"
Unluckily for Gabriel, two soldiers were on patrol as they came to involve themselves in the matter.
"What is going on here...?! Let him go...!" The soldier commanded the people holding him.
"Sir, this young man is a thief."
"I did not take anything..." Gabriel continued to beg. They had left him but he was surrounded by the crowd.
"Calm down," The soldier said to Riggs who was acting very hot-tempered. "Can you tell us what he stole from you?"
"He took my jewelry. I just bought it for my wife and now he has taken it."
"Sir, I did not take any jewelry from him. I have put everything back into his sack."
"Liar! it's not in my sack. You have taken it for yourself to sell..."
"It's okay. We are here to settle this. Let us have a look at your sacks?"
Then the two soldiers divided themselves, one searched Riggs and his sack while the other searched Gabriel and his sack.
Immediately the jewelry was brought out of Gabriel's sack, Riggs shouted. "That's it...! That is the jewelry I'm talking about."
"Young man, is this yours?" The soldier asked Gabriel.
He was surprised and did not know what to say.
"Answer the question, you thief." Riggs shouted.
The soldier was still looking at Gabriel for an answer.
"No sir, it's not mine. I don't know how it got into my sack."
"Shut up you liar! You stole it from me."
"It's okay," The soldier said to Riggs who was still shouting. "Here, take back your jewelry and go your way."
"No! This must not end here, he should be taken to the general for judgment."
"There is no need for that. You've got your jewelry back. Let this end here." The soldier said to Riggs.
"No, I want him to pay. Let him face judgment, that way people will stop taking what is not theirs.
Gabriel knew where this was driving to. If he was taken to the general then he would surely die because the general himself was also looking for him.
"Please sir, let this issue end here. Let it not be brought to the general. Please, I am begging you."
"No. You will face the general so that those you are working with will stop stealing. I said it from the beginning that you are one of them. You will have to call out your partners."
"Please sir. I am begging you. Name whatever it is you want from me, I will pay. But please, let the general be taken out of this." Gabriel was begging and did not know when he said what he did.
Those words sure proved him to be a thief just as he was accused.
The soldiers were responsible, they knew what judgment Gabriel will face if he is presented to the general. They felt pity on him. He does not look like a thief to the soldiers but from what they had seen, they had nothing to doubt. The only thing they were trying to do was save his life by begging on his behalf but Riggs would not listen to any of their pleas. The people who had gathered around also felt pity for Gabriel. But it wasn't their property that was stolen so they knew how Riggs felt. A few people joined in begging Riggs on Gabriel's behalf but it was all on deaf ears.
As the situation waxed higher and higher, the soldiers decided to take Riggs aside and reason with him while the crowd ensured that he did not escape. Anyway, he had no thoughts of escaping because that would worsen the whole situation. Since the soldiers were pleading on his behalf, he had to stay calm and hope for the best.
As Riggs and the two soldiers were set apart from the others, Riggs then made himself known to the soldiers and it was a shock to them. He was one of the high rank officers of Byron.
When his identity was made known to soldiers pleading for Gabriel's sake, the plea was ended, because he gave them a command and they must not go against.
Then they were back to the spot where Gabriel was and said. "Young man, we are sorry but you must come with us to see the general."
At the sound of that, Gabriel knew it was his end. He now began to regret so much advice that was given to him starting from that of his late father and old Mueller. He should have never come to Tadeas as his father had warned him. Or he would have returned home after discovering who his father was and why he was killed. All these regrets did not escape his mind as he was being taken to meet the general for judgment along with Kevin Gross and Riggs who followed them.
When he was finally brought to the dwelling of general Byron by the two soldiers followed by Riggs and was presented before Byron, the two soldiers instantly left him with Riggs as Byron came out from his inner chamber. Then Kevin and Gross also came into the court and then their real identity was known to him. And he now understood what was going on."You….!" He was very shocked to identify who they were. Then Byron was now visible but Gabriel failed to pay him the deserved respect. He was only thinking of a way to escape them at this point but it was never going to be possible. He was in their base and soldiers were all over the place."My lord," the three of them greeted Byron as he came forth. While Byron, who they were greeting, bowed before Gabriel. "Welcome lord Gabriel, son of lord Ronald, grandson of King Rodgers and ruler of over the whole of Tadeas. That greeting was surely strange to Gabriel. He did not understand what was
It was told to the general of Ceevah, Monroe Howard. It was told to him that the young man from Gytle who they have been looking for in their city was in Mayca all this while. And Monroe was also told that Byron and his trusted men are after him. But they still have been unable to get him.The source of this message was still ignorant of Gabriel's real identity as the son of Ronald. He only knew that Byron could desperately be after him because he was of a high value. Now that this vital message about Gabriel had gone beyond Mayca, his life was now at a very high risk because the information would definitely reach Cyb and Gilroy in due time.Governor Monroe Howard, as they called him pending the time when he would win over the other cities and ascend the throne of Tadeas. Monroe had to call for some of his men, who
Gabriel was expecting Mueller to say something after him but he waited and there was no word coming forth nor was there a sign that he would say anything. So he said, "After their pretentious attitude at his place, I walked away but two men followed me claiming to be escorts but I had to lose them. It is obvious now that I am very confused. I do not know what to think about them again. They seem harmful and harmless at the same time. So I came to you to see if there was any way you could help me with some details about them."With the sound of that, Mueller and Abby were no longer in the much pressure which they were feeling at first. He still did not know what they had done. So Mueller had to help him with the details he was asking for, but first he must tell him of their actions so he won't be disappointed when he hears it from another mouth."Gabriel, there is something you need to know."Gabriel knew from his tune that what he was about to tell him was not t
Gabriel kept on dwelling in the city of Mayca while his mind told the final conclusion on the decision of leaving Mayca to Cyb. While he patrolled the city a very fateful day, still on the lookout for Kevin, Gross and Riggs if they were following him. He came to meet the last thing he believed was possible.A few men covered in hoods compassed during the evening hours while he was trying to return to one his places of refuge. He looked at the six men that had surrounded him very carefully to see if they were his well known trackers. But the hood and disguise was so much that it was difficult for him to identify who they were. The only people that now know who he was and had the temerity to catch him was Byron and his selected few. But the faces of those few selected were not found in the midst of the men that gathered him round. So he was greatly troubled in his spirit as to who they were. All that his mind could go concerning selling out his identity now was Mu
Gabriel was brought to the home of Mueller by night and he remained unconscious till noon the following day when the sun was already hot. It was a very sunny day. When Gabriel finally woke up at noon, he saw himself lying on a bed in a well arranged room. He was surprised as he woke up there, then remembered that he was not staying with anybody. So the happenings of the previous night gradually flash through his mind and soon he concluded that he was in the den of his capturers and must escape since he was hearing no sound as a sign that they were around. As he came out of bed and gently opened the entrance door to the room where he was, he was so shocked to see that the next room looked very much like that of Mueller. And for some seconds he argued with his mind that it was not Mueller's place because he did not believe that old Mueller would pay people to capture him. When he proceeded with the silence of the room to the final exit, he was now certain that he
As the ravens which were sent to deliver this message across to these group leaders flew around the city of Mayca. It was spotted by some soldiers of Mayca who noticed it was from another city and it only meant that spies were in their territory. So they hunted the raven bird down to find out what message it was carrying with it and who it was sending them to.These men were successful in their hunt so they took both the bird and the message it carried to their governor Byron. The bird was not hurt for a very good reason. When this message was brought to the house of Byron, he was not shocked about the news. At least, it has created the awareness to him that Monroe was also after Gabriel and he knew that Gabriel was of a high importance. One thing he did not know was how many dispatchment of Ceevah were in his land. But even if the number was not known, they must start from somewhere in looking for these impostors. So his troops were scattered the most. The soldiers on
Five hours had passed and Gabriel was still being carried as the men moved at a very fast pace and yet they showed no sign of being tired. One can call it luck or something else but to Gabriel he did not care what it was called as long as it would cause him to escape, it was fine by him. Due to the sounds of their running footsteps, soldiers of Mayca on patrol were able to track and cut them off. Some came out from behind while some out in front. The total number of soldiers that had appeared were ten, meaning that there was going to be a fair fight; eight against ten.Gabriel was thrown to the ground as the soldiers attacked. There was clashing of swords and it was proved from Gabriel's watch that both the soldiers of Mayca and the men from Ceevah were well trained and experienced fighters. Men who have been in combat not once not twice.Gabriel tried to creep his way out of the fight scene But it was not going to work. He was in their middle and as he c
Now the soldiers on the assignment in Mayca sent by governor Monroe Howard were reduced in number. Out of the nine divisions, only one was remaining and since they had noticed that the other dispatchments were all killed. It was time they aborted the mission to return to Ceevah. It was after they came to the place where Gabriel was taken by the soldiers and saw their fellows lying lifeless. They surveyed the area and saw the loosed ropes which were used in tying Gabriel then they knew of a certain that Gabriel was either taken by the soldiers or that he had left the city of Mayca because no man in his right sense of mind will after escaping such threat against his life and still decide to remain in the land. But in these two conclusions which they came to, they were of a higher thought that he was with Byron, and that would mean their getting him was not sure anymore. It only takes a crazy and stupid man to attack the headquarters of their enemies. Such persons must have chos
