Mueller took note of the sudden tension which Gabriel had while the girl walked close to the spot where they were.
"Good morning," the girl greeted.
"How are you doing today, Abby?"
"Fine pa. I see you have a visitor, maybe I should give you some privacy."
"O! This is Gabriel, he was just passing by. Gabriel meet my granddaughter, Abby."
"Nice to meet you, Abby. Anyway, I was already on my way so there's nothing to worry about." Gabriel continued to the exit and left the house.
As he left the house, his spirit caused him not to go far from the house so he just hung around the premises. This was because his spirit had identified and accepted her to be of great help in his quest, and for the first time, the last words of his dying father were not heard in his head so he believed that Abby was the one who could help with information.
Even though his spirit had aligned with her, he was having this doubt that she would not have the answers he needed because she was young and probably would not know much. But since he felt that everyone in Tadeas knew his father, then she would also know one or two things that could help.
After an hour of waiting at a corner for Abby to come out of the house, she finally came out heading for the main street.
"Excuse me miss…." He called running after her.
Turning around to see Gabriel, "It's you again? Gabriel right?"
"Yes it is. Permit me to borrow some of your time?"
"That won't be a problem at all. My grandfather had already told me that you would need some help in finding your way around here. He says you are new to the Mayca and Tadeas at large. So it's my pleasure to help you out."
After she finished, Gabriel was short of words. He did not know where and how to begin in asking her about his father. So he just stood silent staring at her as he thought of the best way to ask his question.
"I'm sure you're confused as to why we chose to help. It's really something strange but you can take your time. Whereas, you are welcomed in the house."
Now Gabriel could not turn down the offer again. He did not know when he concurred. "Sure, I actually do not even know where I'm headed."
*****
The sun was now setting. Gabriel was sitting with Mueller and Abby inside the house. They have all been silent gazing at each other for over thirty minutes with no one wanting to break the silence.
Finally, Mueller had to call off the silence, "So tell me child, what exactly brought you to Tadeas?"
"Just wanted to see the world outside my town."
Mueller knew he was lying but decided to pretend and play along. "So how long have you been on the journey of yours to see the world?"
"A couple of weeks."
"Then tell us, how is the world out there? Tell us of your experience in the countries you visited before coming to ours?"
"If you ask me, I'll say it's not that bad. It is just as peaceful as the country of Tadeas."
The word 'peaceful' caught him, Tadeas was for sure not peaceful at all. "Would mind telling us more. Maybe we would love to move to one of the countries you've visited in the past few days of your journey."
At this point, Gabriel was getting sick of his lies. He did not know how to continue with them nor did he know how to make amends. He had no other experience than that which he had in his supposed hometown, Gytle.
"I'm sorry sir. Can we start all over?"
"Interesting…" Mueller changed his sitting posture as he knew where Gabriel was driving. He was an old man with so much experience. So none of Gabriel's actions were new to him.
Abby, sitting by his left, was lost as to why Gabriel said they should start all over. She was young, about seventeen years of age. And there was no way she would understand all their terms.
"Okay, let's start with you telling us where you are from."
"I'm from Gytle."
"Gytle?!" Abby exclaimed in shock.
"Yes. Is there a problem?" Gabriel sure was confused. This was the second time someone was shocked after hearing that he came from Gytle. He looked at Mueller and he too was amazed. And the eyes of Gabriel told Mueller that he needed answers.
"How many have told that you were from Gytle?"
"Only a woman in Ceevah," Gabriel said simply. "Is there any problem with where I'm from?"
"Yes and no."
"Can you please explain what you mean?"
"People from Gytle are known for one thing, they are not travelers and they had everything they needed in their small town. So I bet there must be something of high importance that has caused you to leave Gytle. And of all time now."
Gabriel was getting more interested, he knew for sure that he was getting close to finding his answers. "What is wrong with the time I chose?"
"I can only continue after you have told me the reason for your journey."
"Well, there is no special reason as to why I left Gytle."
Then Mueller fixed a strange gaze into Gabriel's eyes. From those looks, Gabriel knew for sure that Mueller could tell when he was lying.
"I came to Tadeas to learn about someone?"
"Who?!"
"Ronald Rodgers."
Then Abby was about to spill some words out when Mueller turned to her, "Ah ah ah..." and then to Gabriel. "Son, are you sure you know what you are saying?"
"Yes sir. I want to know about him."
"Why do you want to know this man?"
"Uhh…."
"If you tell any lie, then we're done." Mueller warned because he knew what Gabriel was about saying.
"A lot of soldiers from Tadeas came to Gytle recently and they were all asking after him. So I decided to find out why."
"I am sure there is more."
"None other than we were close to each other." Then the eyes of both Mueller and Abby met as she said. "Pa, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"I guess I am." Mueller turns again to Gabriel who was now confused due to their strange action. "Since you say you were close to Ronald, can you tell us the name you knew him as before the arrival of the soldiers? That way you'll prove your claim."
"I knew him as Newton."
Then Mueller was convinced that Gabriel knew exactly who he was talking about. "In that case, you also know his son?"
"Yes, he was my friend."
"Are you saying he is dead?"
Gabriel nodded with seriousness that Mueller could not tell that it was a lie.
Mueller's mood instantly changed. He felt pity for the lost and the room was quiet as Gabriel also pretended to be affected. He had worn a sorrowful face just as Mueller and Abby did. The quietness lasted for a while, and it was making Gabriel run out of patients.
The mournful look on their faces, especially Mueller's mood told Gabriel that Ronald was of high value to them. But he still did not know how. His eagerness to know about his father grew more and more. But he was stock, he had to allow them to mourn for as long as they wanted. So far that at the end of the mourning, he would get the answers he sought for.
After the long silence in the room, Mueller raised his face and looked at Gabriel. "I guess you are here to seek revenge for your friends?" "That would be after I have discovered who they truly were and why they were killed. If for no good reason, then I'll have to avenge their death." "Take my advice son, you can't avenge their death. So just return to Gytle. Continue your life as though it never happened. The people you are after are not easy to kill. In short, you can't defeat them all by yourself. Even if you gather all the men from Gytle, you still can not get the revenge you seek." Those words interpreted one thing. His father was not worthy of death. He was innocent of all possible crimes. But Gabriel was not yet satisfied, he wanted a better explanation of who his father was. "Are you saying they were killed for no good reason?" Mueller nodded. "Why were they killed?" "I'm sure you don't want to know because you won't like it a
Mueller and Abby were now at the home of Byron Haas the following day, since Abby was unable to trace Gabriel. Byron had welcomed them warmly and they were all sitting in his parlor together with Kevin Hodge who Byron had invited to bear witness of what they were about to say. After a drink was presented before Mueller and Abby by one of the maidservants of Byron, and Mueller had just taken a little sip from the cup. Byron asked, "You said there was something of high importance which you wanted to tell me?" "Yes, there is." Mueller drops the cup. "We found Ronald's son. He was at our home yesterday." "Please sir, don't joke with matters like this." Byron said, giving Mueller the maximum respect he needed as an elderly ma
Now Gabriel was back in Mayca. He had returned to the house Mueller to take refuge since they were the only ones who seemed nice to him. As he knocked on the door, Abby came to answer the knock. "Oh! It is you again? You are back?" Abby was shocked at seeing. "Can I come in?" Gabriel was in panic as he turned his next around to make sure no one was spying on him. Abby noticed his strange attitude and he kind of made her scared. "What is the matter?" She was still standing between the entrance. "Am I no longer welcome as you told me?" "Sure… sure… come in." She gave way and he walked into the house. Then Abby took around the surroundings, checking for something suspicious and she couldn't spot any. So she shut the door. "You must be tasty? Let me get you some water to drink." "Where is your grandfather?" Gabriel asked as she headed for the kitchen door. "He is at the back as always." It was morning
Now it was evening and the sun was setting. Abby had returned some minutes ago. She came alone.About an hour after her return, there was a heavy knock on the door though it did sound as a threat to Mueller and Abby. So Gabriel stayed calm even though his instinct had told him to run. He just concluded that since Mueller and Abby were not curious about the hard knock on the door, then it would be that they were expecting some visitors and they would be nice people just like them.Abby went and opened the door as they knocked the second time."Welcome sire," She greeted them at the door post yet Gabriel hadn't seen who it was. Through her salutation, he could tell that the person or people at the door were not mare civilians. So he stands from his seat about to excuse himself. Then the people at the door walked into the house as she made way for them. It was three men. Huron Haas was in the middle. As he saw Byron, Gabriel hastened up to depart from
Gabriel returned to the house of Mueller by midnight after leaving Byron and the soldiers in the woods. When he knocked on the door of the house, it took a while before someone answered his knock. It was very strange for someone to be knocking by that time of the night. So Mueller and Abby ignored the Knock for some time even though they had heard it after the third it sounded. But Gabriel persistee in banging the door as he said, "Open up, it's me Gabriel."When they heard the voice, they listened again to confirm if it was truly him."I know you can hear me. Please open up."This time they recognized the voice and it was truly Gabriel's, so Abby hurried and let him into the house. He was panting. After he had taken a seat, Mueller said, "Why did you leave the way you did?""I told you that people are after my life and that man Byron is one of them." Gabriel said as he was calming himself. Now Mueller understood what was going
After Kevin, Gross and Riggs had secretly gone round the cities of Ceevah, Gilroy and Cyb in search of Gabriel to no avail. They returned to Byron in Mayca to give reports concerning their adventure. Throughout the whole of their search, it was only once that they came across him yet he escaped and that was in Gilroy. The inhabitants of Gilroy and Cyb were still not aware that Gabriel was in the country. They were still holding on to the lies which the people of Gytle told them concerning him dying in the attack. Meanwhile, Ceevah did not cease to search for him within their territory. Even though they knew that he might have left the city, they did not see it necessary to inform their fellow contestants for the throne about the stranger from Gytle who came into their lands. This was because they still believed the fact that the heir was dead. They only wanted to get hold of the man from Gytle and know why he was in their lands since Gytleans never traveled beyond thei
While Gabriel walked along the street, Riggs, who was in the direction he was walking towards, began coming in his direction too.As they came close, about to pass each other, Riggs deliberately hit him, but he did it as though it was a mistake and was all Gabriel's fault. The items he was holding were dropped to the ground."What is wrong with you, kid?!" Riggs began to shout. "Don't you have eyes to watch where you are going? Why can't young men like you just concentrate on where they are going and stop looking around like some fools or thieves? This is actually the fourth time people like you hit me this morning. Or did you all plan it? You want to still somi from right?! Why am I even asking you this? It's obvious, you all are thieves. But the fact that the others failed you too is going to fail."Riggs was saying all this without observing a pause or taking breath. He was sounding very mad and Gabriel did not know what to say to calm him. He believed he was
When he was finally brought to the dwelling of general Byron by the two soldiers followed by Riggs and was presented before Byron, the two soldiers instantly left him with Riggs as Byron came out from his inner chamber. Then Kevin and Gross also came into the court and then their real identity was known to him. And he now understood what was going on."You….!" He was very shocked to identify who they were. Then Byron was now visible but Gabriel failed to pay him the deserved respect. He was only thinking of a way to escape them at this point but it was never going to be possible. He was in their base and soldiers were all over the place."My lord," the three of them greeted Byron as he came forth. While Byron, who they were greeting, bowed before Gabriel. "Welcome lord Gabriel, son of lord Ronald, grandson of King Rodgers and ruler of over the whole of Tadeas. That greeting was surely strange to Gabriel. He did not understand what was
