The elevator hummed as it climbed, the soft light casting shadows across the mirrored panels. Alex stood beside Tina, silent, hands in his pockets.

Tina leaned slightly against the wall, watching him through the reflection. Her shoes were back on, but she had already undone the buttons on her coat. She didn’t say much either. The silence between them wasn’t uncomfortable. It pulsed.

When the doors opened, she stepped out first, her heels clicking softly on the hallway floor. Alex followed.

"This way," she said without looking back.

The keycard beeped.

The door opened.

Alex stepped into the suite and paused. The lights were warm, the room spacious and luxuriously simple. The city skyline framed itself in the tall window behind the large bed.

Tina slipped her coat off, draped it over a nearby chair, and turned.

He was still standing at the door.

She tilted her head. "You’re not afraid of hotel rooms, are you?"

"No."

"Then come in."

He did.

She walked to the minibar, pulled out a small b

The warehouse was dimly lit, thick with dust and the sour stench of cheap cigarettes. The five men stood in a line, their injuries visible even beneath their clothes. One had a swollen eye, another limped, and a third still clutched his broken wrist. They looked like they had crawled out of a street war, not a five-on-one ambush.Victor Miller stood in front of them, silent.Too silent. He turned slowly, poured himself a drink. The clink of glass echoed through the space. Then he took a slow sip, set the glass down, and exploded."Useless!"The word cracked like a whip.None of the men responded. What could they say?Victor walked up to the man with the swollen eye and slapped him across the face with the back of his hand."You said you had a military background. Special ops, wasn’t it? What happened? Did you mistake a street doctor for a demon?"He turned to the man with the broken wrist."You. You said you could snap a grown man’s spine in three seconds. You couldn’t even hold your

The air had shifted. What started as a casual observation turned into something more, and now the old woman stood in front of Alex with eyes full of questions and a trace of hope she didn’t seem to trust.Alex met her gaze."My name is Alex Cole," he said quietly. "I’m a medical practitioner with orthodox training… and a little more than that. I’ve studied spiritual systems, qi structures, and what lies between."The old woman watched him.He continued. "Your condition didn’t come from old age or random strain. It came from residual toxins, years of spiritual overuse. The qi channels in your hands were never flushed after intense casting. Those toxins have built up in your hand muscles. That’s where the pain comes from."The woman’s fingers flexed involuntarily. Her eyes widened, just slightly.Alex took a step closer, crouching beside her now. "If you’ll allow me, I can fix it. It won’t take long."There was a pause. Then she nodded once. "Do it."Sisi stood to the side, arms folded,

Tina lay sprawled across the edge of her velvet couch, one leg dangling, a half-finished glass of wine resting on the floor. She hadn’t called anyone. Not since the hotel. Not since Alex left. The silence in her penthouse was loud. She’d been trying to work all morning, but her mind kept circling the same point. That moment… the shift in his eyes… the way he stood up and left without looking back. She hated the way it lingered. He had said it would ruin the date.Maybe it already had.Her phone buzzed again. She ignored it.It wasn’t until a second call came through, then a third, that she finally picked up."Ena. What?"Her best friend's voice came through the speaker, sharp as ever. "You sound like trash. What happened?"Tina grunted. "Nothing. Go back to whatever brunch you’re ruining.""I already did. And I noticed you’re avoiding my messages. So? Talk."Tina sighed and sat up, dragging the throw blanket over her legs. "I went on a date with Alex.""The hot doctor? The one you mad

Alex stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the collar of his clean white shirt. His hair was combed, his shoes clean, and his cologne subtle. He checked his watch. He still had twenty minutes before he was supposed to pick Tina up.The last time they saw each other, things had ended on a tense note. But she had reached out, apologized, and asked for another chance. He agreed. Today was supposed to be that second chance. His phone buzzed on the table.Alex picked it up.It was a message from an unfamiliar number."This is Hannah Stone. Lady Walton would like you to come for lunch today. She has something important to discuss with you. Regarding Lord Thor Walton."Another message followed immediately."This time, we are not taking no for an answer."Alex narrowed his eyes. The tone was direct, almost aggressive. Hannah’s reputation as Thea’s right hand was well-known. She didn’t sugarcoat anything, and she certainly didn’t waste time repeating herself. But it was the second part of th

The morning sun had just begun its slow climb, casting honey-colored rays upon the bustling roads of Trim City. Inside the luxury sedan, the air was silent, save for the soft hum of the engine and the occasional shift of tires on asphalt.Tina Snow sat beside Alex Cole with a demure expression, her hands folded on her lap, her posture elegant and composed. She wore a soft fragrance today, something faint and unfamiliar. The kind of scent that did not announce itself but lingered gently, just enough to be remembered. She had spoken only once since he entered the car.“I’m taking you somewhere,” she said, a mysterious smile playing on her lips. “But you’ll have to wait and see.”He did not press for details. He simply leaned back in his seat and allowed the silence to stretch between them like a fragile thread. His eyes occasionally drifted to her reflection in the window. She was dressed like no version of Tina Snow he had seen before. No bright lipstick. No high heels sharp enough to

The wind that blew through the Walton Estate carried the scent of trimmed rose bushes and the faint sting of polished steel. The sky had long faded from blue to amber, and the estate grounds were already bathed in a warm, orange glow as dusk crept in from the hills.Inside the sitting room of the Walton main residence, two women sat with very different expressions.Thea Walton, the War God of Mericania, sat in quiet poise. Her military-styled coat rested on the back of her seat, revealing the sleeveless black dress that clung to her form. Her eyes were narrowed slightly, but not from anger she was deep in thought. Still, beneath her stillness, an undeniable impatience lingered.Beside her, Hannah Stone paced the room in tight, agitated circles. Every third step, she would stop, whirl around, and begin her rant again with renewed vigor.“This is ridiculous,” Hannah snapped, flicking her long dark hair behind her shoulder. “How long have we been waiting? Twenty minutes? Thirty?”Thea d

The dining hall of the Smith estate was a temple of wealth and power. Golden chandeliers dripped light from above like molten stars. The table beneath them was a stretch of mahogany longer than most banquet halls in the city, polished to the point where one's reflection could be seen in its surface. At the head of it all, Wade Smith sat like an emperor enthroned.Trim City's wealthiest medical tycoon. A man with power not only in hospitals and pharmaceuticals but also across underground networks and private research organizations that stretched beyond Mericania’s borders. His three sons sat along the table, each one radiating a different flavor of ambition.Riss Smith, the eldest, with his golden cufflinks and prideful eyes. He wore his tailored suit like it was armor. Vonn Smith, the second, was more refined, quieter, but with a sharpness in his gaze that betrayed a calculating nature. And then, there was King, the youngest, but the most brash. His smile could disarm any woman, but h

Tina stood by the window, her delicate fingers wrapped around a porcelain teacup that had long gone cold. The early morning sun streamed through the sheer curtains, turning her soft beige robe into a glowing silhouette. Her thoughts were distant, but her lips wore a smile, the kind that still lingered from the night before. The memory of the orphanage was still fresh.Alex Cole’s voice, his steady hands when he helped carry the supply crates, the way the children laughed and clung to his sleeves. Most of all, his words. You did well.It wasn’t flattery. It wasn’t indulgence. It was honest. Direct. Alex Cole had looked her in the eyes, not as prey, not as a woman he had to avoid, but as someone worth recognizing. And then there were his last words before she dropped him off at the intersection.I wouldn’t mind seeing it again. The place. The kids. You.She had replayed that line so many times it echoed now more than her own heartbeat. She had won a small piece of ground in his heart. I

Tina’s voice sliced through the tension in the room like a blade.“That was rude, Miller. You don’t speak to people like that, especially not someone like Alex.”Her brows were drawn together in disapproval, her arms crossed tightly over her chest as she glared at the man seated across from her. She looked every bit the confident, assertive woman people knew her to be fierce, sharp-tongued, and used to having things go her way. Miller, on the other hand, looked unimpressed. He merely lifted his eyes toward her and gave a scoff, like her words held no weight.“I didn’t ask for his opinion,” Miller replied flatly. “If someone barges into a meeting unannounced, they should be prepared for how they’re received.”Alex, standing just near the door, seemed caught between staying and saying more, or simply slipping out to avoid escalating the situation. He bowed his head slightly, voice soft and apologetic.“I’m sorry for interrupting,” Alex said, his tone calm and respectful despite the obv

Alex changed into a sharp, formal tuxedo as he prepared for his date with Tina. While tying his cufflinks, his thoughts drifted silently to Victor Miller. He was heading to Tina Snow’s company an hour before their scheduled date not by coincidence, but by design. He needed time to find Miller and speak with him before anything else.A part of him considered asking for forgiveness after all, the misunderstanding between them wasn’t truly his fault, but it had still caused damage. Yet, the idea of bringing it up felt strange, given that it stemmed from Rena’s false accusations. What would Miller even say? Would he believe him now?Still, Alex couldn’t shake the feeling that he owed the man something.Carl had recently informed him that Raymond Bourne was one of the influential figures who approved the list of companies eligible for investment from the Snow family’s enterprise. Since the Bourne family held significant shares in Snow’s company, Raymond’s word carried weight.Carl also rev

Honestly, he hadn’t expected Sean to reach out again after how things had ended between them. When Sean finally arrived, he looked a little better than the last time, though the stress was still evident on his face.“Hmmm… How have you been all these years?” Sean asked, taking a seat beside him. “I see you managed to secure some good deals for yourself.”Sean was aware of what had happened behind the scenes. He knew how Alex’s extended family had swooped in to take control of his father’s businesses and stripped Alex and his sister of their rightful inheritance. He added with a light chuckle, “You even managed to repurchase your father’s car, huh?”That wasn’t public knowledge, but Sean had always been close enough to the Cole family to know more than most.Alex smirked. “Good bands, huh? That’s funny coming from you, Sean. Isn’t your family still doi

Even if this was not done against the Divine doctor’s precious student, it was wrong to do that to anyone.“How dare you treat a doctor like that in public, you didn't even do that to just anyone but Doctor Cole. Even if it was a junior Doctor, it is wrong to do that any one.” Roman scolded him.Reed was too scared and he could not utter any words in his defense.“I am so sorry that he had done that to you Doctor Alex. I don’t think what I am about to say will help make this up to you but it is the least I could do to ease things up.” Roman Reign said apologetically, “You may decide what his punishment is because he needs to be taught a lesson to never disrespect any doctor in his life.”“Forbid him from using the skills he had learned from your medical

The alley behind the gallery was too quiet. That should’ve been Alex’s first clue. But he didn’t flinch.Dressed in black and moving like a shadow, he strolled through the narrow lane that reeked of garbage and cheap perfume. Neon signs flickered overhead. Somewhere in the distance, a party throbbed with music and laughter. But here? Silence. Stillness.A perfect place for a setup. He adjusted the cuff of his shirt and paused in the middle of the alley. That’s when the men stepped out, six of them, all bulk and muscle, dressed like plain thugs but too synchronized to be random street trouble. One cracked his knuckles. Another pulled a metal rod from beneath his coat.“These guys really needs to stop hiring amateurs,” Alex muttered under his breath.A slow clap echoed through the alley.Gisele came on first, heels clicking as she walked in like this was a stage built just for her. A red satin dress hugged her curves, and her smirk was sharper than any weapon. James followed, less styl

Back inside the Hall…Vivian exhaled slowly, trying to gather herself.“He’s bluffing,” she said, mostly to herself.“Is he?” James asked quietly.Fredrick rubbed his jaw. “What if he’s not?”James looked around at the guests who were whispering behind champagne glasses. “We need to control the narrative. If this gets out…”Vivian already had her phone out. “I’ll speak to PR. We’ll spin it. He’s angry. Bitter. Jealous. We’ll make him look like a disgruntled heir with a vendetta. No one will believe his accusations.”Fredrick didn’t look so sure. “That man wasn’t bluffing. You saw his eyes.”James didn’t speak for a moment. Then he said, “Find out who’s working with him. If he’s digging into our finances, someone gave him access.”Fredrick nodded. “We’ll clean house. I’ll speak to the accountant.”“No,” Vivian interrupted. “He’s been acting nervous lately. If Alex approached him…”They all went quiet.“Do it tonight,” James said. “We don’t wait. No room for mistakes.”Vivian’s phone bu

  • Chapter 142 - Family

Vivian Cole’s heels clicked against the polished marble floors as she walked briskly toward the grand entrance of the event hall. Her sharp green dress hugged her frame perfectly, and her expression was a mask of calm curiosity though her stomach twisted with unease. James and Fredrick Cole followed close behind, the former adjusting his cufflinks while the latter muttered curses under his breath.Security had come to them not five minutes earlier, murmuring about a disturbance at the entrance involving “a man in black” and a group of men who looked like trouble. One of the guards even whispered something about the Mafia, which was ridiculous, of course. At least, they hoped it was.As they turned the corner and stepped into the wide foyer of the building, they paused, almost in unison. There he was.Alex Cole.Their nephew.Dressed in a matte-black tailored suit with a long overcoat draped elegantly over his shoulders, Alex stood like a storm in waiting shoulders squared, chin slig

The protest outside his mansion had just dispersed. His aunt thought she could really play in his face. And he would not let that go.Alex leaned against the marble counter of the kitchen island, watching Carl with quiet calculation. Dressed in a fitted black suit, he looked more like a strategist than a lawyer today, but that’s what Carl needed, someone cold, smart, and as ruthless.“They used your name,” Carl said finally, his tone low but pointed. “They’ve been hiding behind your reputation for years. Free PR. More clients. Bigger projects. But now they’re hiding their sins behind your walls.”Alex stopped pacing. “They think just because they share my blood, they can drag my name through the mud and get away with it.”Carl arched a brow. “Your name isn’t mud. But if you let them do it again, it will be.”There was a pause. The wei
