A dull throbbing pounded against Thea’s skull as she slowly regained consciousness.

Her eyelids felt heavy, her limbs weak, as if she had been asleep for days. The first thing she became aware of was the cool, sterile scent of antiseptic lingering in the air, followed by the distinct sound of a heart monitor beeping softly in the background.

She wasn’t in her office anymore.

Her fingers twitched against the soft sheets beneath her, and as her vision cleared, she realized she was lying in the infirmary.

The dim overhead lights cast a muted glow across the white walls, giving the room an eerie stillness.

“My Lord,” a familiar voice called, laced with concern.

She turned her head slightly and saw Hannah standing near her bedside, arms crossed, her brows furrowed. Her usual calm demeanor was overshadowed by an unmistakable look of worry.

Thea frowned, her voice raspy as she spoke. “What… happened?”

Hannah let out a slow breath, hesitating for a moment before answering. “You collapsed.”

The prisoner is under my jurisdiction, and I cannot risk his removal until my men and I have properly assessed him.”The minister’s nostrils flared, his lips curling in irritation. “And you expect me to simply accept that?”“Yes,” Thea said without hesitation.Kael chuckled, shaking his head. “You see, Uncle? This is the problem with allowing someone like her to hold such an important position.” His eyes glinted with malice as he turned to Thea. “You think yourself above everyone else just because you won the war god’s trial, but you fail to realize that victory

Thea remained motionless for a few moments after the minister and Kael left. Her office still felt heavy with their presence, and though she had managed to maintain her composure, the confrontation had drained her. Minister Timbersea was a dangerous man, and she knew he would not let this go so easily.A knock on her door interrupted her thoughts. “Come in,” she called, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside her.The door opened, and Hannah Stone stepped inside. “That didn’t go well,” she said dryly.Thea let out a humorless chuckle. “Did you expect it to?”Hannah shook her head and sat on the edge of Thea’s desk. “He’s going to push for your removal, you know that, right?”Thea exhaled slowly. “I know.”Hannah studied her for a moment before speaking again. “What do you want to do?”Thea’s fingers drummed against the desk. “We need to secure Y-Faced better. If the minister is this desperate to see him, it means he knows something we don’t. And that’s what worries me.”Hannah’s

If you know something, spill it."Y-Faced let out another laugh, his gaze shifting to Thea. "Tell me, War God... have you ever wondered why Kael rose so fast? How did he gained power so effortlessly?"Thea stayed silent. She had wondered, but admitting it would mean questioning her own position.Y-Faced smirked. "He's not fighting alone. There's a force behind him, something older, deeper... and it's already inside the city."Thea's hands curled into fists. "Who?""You’re asking the wrong question," Y-Faced whispered, stepping back into the darkness. "The real question is... what does Minister Timbersea gain from keeping you in check?"Thea's blood ran cold. Before she could press further

The grand chamber of the War Council was dimly lit, the flickering light of torches casting long, shifting shadows on the marble walls. The room was circular, with a massive wooden table at the center. Thea sat at the head, her hands folded neatly before her. Across from her sat Kael, his smirk barely concealed. To her left was Commander Vaughn, a veteran warrior who had stood by her side when she was chosen as War God. His face was as stern as ever, but his dark eyes held a hint of worry. Next to him sat Lady Mirella, the head of intelligence, her sharp gaze scanning the room, picking up on every movement, every microexpression. Beside her was General Rhoan, an older man with silvered hair, a battle-hardened look on his face.To Kael’s right, a few of his trusted allies sat in silence, including Lord Varrik, one of the minister’s close advisors. There was an air of expectancy in the room, like an unspoken challenge, waiting to be acknowledged. The minister took a seat at the head of

Kael followed Minister Justin Timbersea down the dimly lit corridor, his boots clicking against the marble floor with practiced ease. The hall of the Minister’s estate was silent, save for the distant hum of the city outside. The walls were adorned with ancient war banners, relics from a time when true warriors ruled, not pretenders like Thea. Minister Timbersea didn’t speak until they reached his private chamber, a grand yet suffocating room lined with towering bookshelves and an ornate desk littered with documents. He sank into his chair with a weary sigh, rubbing his temple as if warding off an oncoming headache. Kael, ever composed, remained standing. “You were too soft on her,” Kael finally said, folding his arms across his chest. Timbersea shot him a warning look. “Watch your tongue, boy. I am still your superior.” Kael smirked, unfazed. “And yet, you know I’m right. You gave her 48 hours, 48 hours too many. She’s dangerous, Uncle. The longer she holds that title, the mor

Especially since he had fallen ill.“It is odd that that is whom you are requesting for,” Reed who was coming from behind Alex replied to him.Ben heaved a little sigh of relief because he didn’t know what to say to such an odd request.“You are the Alex Cole?” Reed asked and squeezed his face as if he had just mentioned some dirt or disgusting thing but Alex did not mind.Hannah who had been expecting Ben to u

Kael sat in the candle-lit study of his private estate, fingers tapping rhythmically against the polished oak table. A decanter of wine sat untouched beside him, its deep crimson reflecting in the dim glow of the room. His mind was too sharp, too focused for indulgence.Thea had 48 hours.Forty-eight hours to track down Y-Faced, to prove her worth once more in the eyes of the council, to maintain her grip on the Dragon Order.Kael intended to make sure she failed. With a flick of his wrist, he gestured to the two men standing before him—Lord Varrik, a high-ranking official within the ministry who had long aligned himself with Kael’s ambitions, and an unnamed informant, draped in dark robes, his face obscured by the flickering candlelight.“Thea will deploy her forces at first light,” Kael began, his voice steady, measured. “She thinks she holds the advantage, that her authority remains unquestioned. That ends now.”Varrik leaned forward, his hands clasped together. “You want to sabota

The air was thick with low chatter, soft jazz humming through the speakers, and the flicker of candlelight bouncing off wine glasses. It was the kind of place he usually reserved for business meetings or quiet nights of reflection, but tonight had a different energy. Tonight was about celebrating. He looked up just in time to spot Sean walking in, a confident smile stretched across his face. The two locked eyes, and Alex grinned, raising his glass slightly in greeting.“You look like a man with good news,” Alex said as Sean approached.Sean chuckled and took the seat beside him. “Better than good, man. I got the job.”“No way!” Alex set his drink down and clapped Sean on the back, genuinely thrilled. “You got it?”“Assistant manager,” Sean said, pride and disbelief mingling in his voice. “Can you imagine? Me?”“Hell yes, I can imagine,” Alex replied, signal

  • Chapter 151 - Conditions

Miller wasn’t truly concerned whether Alex succeeded in getting him the board position or not. In fact, deep down, he hoped Alex failed. That way, it would provide him the perfect excuse to sever all ties with him completely. He didn’t want to be tethered directly or indirectly to Carl Moretti. The mafia’s shadow was already long and dark over Trim City, and Miller had narrowly survived too many storms to let himself get dragged into another one. His reputation was hanging by a thread, and he knew better than to let it fray.So when Alex had pleaded for a second chance, Miller hadn’t outright said no but his agreement had come with a heavy undertone of reluctance. It was strategic, not sentimental. If Alex pulled through, fine. If he didn’t, it would be the final nail, and Miller would be done with him. With that tension still hovering in the air, Alex returned to Tina’s office that afternoon. Not for business this time, but for their date the second of ten they had both agreed t

He was still visibly pissed.“I’m sorry about what happened the other day. Uncle, I know no excuse would be enough. After all, it was my fault for not checking in before going to your house,” Alex apologized sincerely.Miller sniffed. He already knew the truth that his wife had framed Alex but he wasn’t about to tell him that. He didn’t want to lose face in front of the boy.He squared his shoulders. The resentment inside him simmered down a little as he remembered all that he had lost his ties with Raymond Bourne, and the respect he once commanded. He was highly happy that Bourne had met up with him, besides he had also pictured the opportunities that would flock around him because of his relationship with Ray.But instead, it caused him more harm than anyone could envision but somehow he was able to vindicate himself. Tina’s voice sliced through the tension in the room like a blade.“That was rude, Miller. You don’t speak to people like that, especially not someone like Alex.”Her brows were drawn together in disapproval, her arms crossed tightly over her chest as she glared at the man seated across from her. She looked every bit the confident, assertive woman people knew her to be fierce, sharp-tongued, and used to having things go her way. Miller, on the other hand, looked unimpressed. He merely lifted his eyes toward her and gave a scoff, like her words held no weight.“I didn’t ask for his opinion,” Miller replied flatly. “If someone barges into a meeting unannounced, they should be prepared for how they’re received.”Alex, standing just near the door, seemed caught between staying and saying more, or simply slipping out to avoid escalating the situation. He bowed his head slightly, voice soft and apologetic.“I’m sorry for interrupting,” Alex said, his tone calm and respectful despite the obv

Alex changed into a sharp, formal tuxedo as he prepared for his date with Tina. While tying his cufflinks, his thoughts drifted silently to Victor Miller. He was heading to Tina Snow’s company an hour before their scheduled date not by coincidence, but by design. He needed time to find Miller and speak with him before anything else.A part of him considered asking for forgiveness after all, the misunderstanding between them wasn’t truly his fault, but it had still caused damage. Yet, the idea of bringing it up felt strange, given that it stemmed from Rena’s false accusations. What would Miller even say? Would he believe him now?Still, Alex couldn’t shake the feeling that he owed the man something.Carl had recently informed him that Raymond Bourne was one of the influential figures who approved the list of companies eligible for investment from the Snow family’s enterprise. Since the Bourne family held significant shares in Snow’s company, Raymond’s word carried weight.Carl also rev

Honestly, he hadn’t expected Sean to reach out again after how things had ended between them. When Sean finally arrived, he looked a little better than the last time, though the stress was still evident on his face.“Hmmm… How have you been all these years?” Sean asked, taking a seat beside him. “I see you managed to secure some good deals for yourself.”Sean was aware of what had happened behind the scenes. He knew how Alex’s extended family had swooped in to take control of his father’s businesses and stripped Alex and his sister of their rightful inheritance. He added with a light chuckle, “You even managed to repurchase your father’s car, huh?”That wasn’t public knowledge, but Sean had always been close enough to the Cole family to know more than most.Alex smirked. “Good bands, huh? Another pulled a metal rod from beneath his coat.“These guys really needs to stop hiring amateurs,” Alex muttered under his breath.A slow clap echoed through the alley.Gisele came on first, heels clicking as she walked in like this was a stage built just for her.
