Chapter 4

After traveling for more than two hours, Adam arrived in the city he was heading to. Stepping off the bus, he closed his eyes for a moment. He stretched out his arms and breathed in the London air he missed.

"London truly is the best." After indulging in nostalgia with the London air, Adam resumed his stride. This time, he was heading to the company he had left two years ago.

After walking for about fifteen minutes, Adam arrived in front of a very tall office building. He took a moment to look up and gaze at the skyscraper belonging to his family, the Anderson family.

Although he used to enter the building with confidence, this time he couldn't do it. People wouldn't believe he was Sean William Anderson. Look at his appearance now! His scruffy face and shabby clothes didn't match the image of a wealthy family member. Despite being a son-in-law of a wealthy family, it didn't guarantee his well-being. Adam was no different from a beggar seeking pity there.

Adam walked towards the security guard post. Of course, he immediately received unpleasant looks from the guards. His past negligence in visiting the office, let alone greeting regular employees like them, meant no one recognized his face.

"What do you want?" one of the guards asked curtly. Not forgetting to send Adam a disdainful and mocking look.

"I want to meet Mr. Damian," Adam replied. Adam couldn't admit to being Sean William at the moment, as they wouldn't believe him. So for now, he had to endure their condescending looks.

The guard scoffed and continued to look at Adam contemptuously. "Mr. Damian doesn't have time to meet lowly people like you! Go away! You're just disturbing the view!" The guard made a shooing motion towards Adam.

Adam couldn't believe that the guards at his own company would treat him disrespectfully. His face turned red with anger, and his fists clenched as if he wanted to punch the smug face in front of him. This was the quality of employees in his company. They continued to pursue the company's glory without caring about the people working under them.

"Why are you still here? Are you also deaf that you can't hear what I'm saying?" The guards at the post then laughed. It seemed like they thought the scene in front of them was entertaining.

"You're totally out of line! Is this how the company instructs you to treat others, huh?" So angry that even the muscles around Adam's neck bulged as he spoke.

"Hey, beggar! What do you care about the company? Just go! Or do you need to be dragged out?"

"I will remember each of your faces! When I return, I'll make sure you're kicked out of this company," Adam threatened, pointing at each guard one by one.

Instead of being afraid, their laughter only grew louder. "It seems he's also crazy. Even now he's delusional. Are you also afraid of being kicked out, friends?" The guards who had been dealing with Adam turned to their colleagues behind them.

"That's it! Stop dealing with him, Josh!" one guard sitting behind them said. He then turned to Adam. "Hey, Sir! Please leave here before my friend here goes crazier. Besides, Mr. Damian can't be met by just anyone."

"I'm not just anyone. I am—" Adam's words were cut off when suddenly someone pulled his arm from behind. He turned abruptly and found an elderly man dragging him out.

"Why are you dragging me out, Old Man!" Adam jerked his arm to free himself. He was very annoyed because now the door was closed, and he couldn't get back inside. "Because of you, I failed to meet the person I was looking for!" Adam continued to blame the old man who seemed to want to say something. "I have to go back inside and—"

"Mr. Sean." The man's voice sounded soft, but Adam could still hear it. Just as Adam was about to get angry, he held himself back.

"Do you know me?" he asked incredulously. He wanted to convince himself that what he had just heard was true.

"Of course. I know you, Mr. Sean William Anderson."

For a moment, Adam was stunned. He didn't even recognize the man in front of him, yet why did the man remember him? Even with his current appearance.

"Let's go to my place. I will tell you everything."

Like a bull being led by its nose, Adam followed as the man, whom he didn't remember at all, led him to a house not far from the company.

The old man invited Adam in and immediately fetched a drink for his guest.

"I'm not surprised that you don't recognize me." The old man started the conversation. He had been observing Adam, who still seemed confused.

Adam, still trying to recall the man in front of him, shook his head slowly. He truly didn't remember him.

"Sorry, Old Man. I really don't remember you. But why do you recognize me, even with my current appearance—" Adam intentionally paused. He looked at his appearance, which was very different from his past self.

The man chuckled softly. "I see you every day, how could I not recognize you."

Adam thought again. If the man in front of him saw him every day, why didn't he remember him?

"Who are you, Old Man?"

"You wouldn't recognize me if I mentioned my name. I am the person who cleans your room every day."

Adam suddenly recalled. He had crossed paths with the janitor assigned to clean his room several times. However, Adam had never paid attention to him before.

"You don't need to remember me, Sir. I'm not that important to be remembered." The old man chuckled softly.

Adam grimaced, feeling very guilty. "I'm truly sorry. I really can't remember you," he said sincerely.

"Don't worry about it, Sir. It's not important. There's something more important I want to tell you."

"Alright! Go ahead."

"You don't need to look for Mr. Damian because he is one of your uncle's subordinates."

Adam's heart seemed to stop beating when he heard the old man's words. The secretary he had trusted all this time turned out to be a traitor. It made sense that no one had been looking for him for the past two years.

"But how do you know about the issue between me and my uncle?"

"I have been working there for a long time. I often accidentally overheard your conversations. However, people like us prefer to remain silent and deaf so that our lives are safe. Earlier, as I was about to leave to go home, I accidentally saw you. I thought you were dead, as per the rumors."

"So, I've been reported dead all this time?"

"Yes, Sir. Mr. Luis reported your death a month after you disappeared. Even your funeral was televised."

"What?!" Adam was shocked by what he had just heard. "So, everyone thought I was dead?"

The old man nodded in response. "After that, the company was taken over by your uncle."
