APPLYING AS A NOVICE BOUNTY HUNTER

All these days John had been going to school and something was yet to happen to him.

but still yet when he leaves school he will always look over his shoulders to make sure no one is following him.

A few weeks had passed and exams were approaching and John knew his school fee needed to be completed in order to take the exam. His parents had not made a statement up to this moment, so John decided to take matters into his own hands.

' if the real culprit is out there, then he must be searching for me. I cannot report him if I don't have evidence. I need to learn how to defend myself.

and there is no better place at the moment than being a bounty hunter. There I can increase my fighting skills and also make some quick cash in the process.

The advantages are far greater than the disadvantages.

I am sorry dad, I will have to go against your advice. only a few hunts won't hurt right?'

John left the house as usual, he said good bye to his parents but his destination this time was not at school. He had hidden the letter sent from school to his parents, requesting them to finish his tuition fee, just because he never wanted to bother them.

He went straight to the big city to meet his father's friend who is a cop. He used part of his savings to board a taxi.

When he got there, he was lucky that his father's friend was at home.

" Hey John, long time no see. What brought you here kiddo?"

" So you mean the man who reported that guy was the real culprit? " asked mr benson.

"Yes," replied john.

" I knew something was off about his report, but now I think I have understood the situation." Mr Benson said.

" However, I don't have any evidence against him. In order to get this evidence, I will need your help.

I have been running away from him all this while, now I would like to face him." said john.

" What do you plan to do?" asked mr benson.

" I would like to be a hunter." John replied.

" Are you sure about this? I mean it is a dangerous path, are you ready?"

" Yes I am."

John knew that he could only meet up with the hunter in the forest where they would be alone, before he could be able to spill out the beans.

Mr Benson gave John an advanced tier sword and asked him to keep it safe.

John could not use the weapon but Mr Benson offered to teach him.

days passed and john kept going to visit mr benson for his sword lessons, in the name of going to school, of course it was their little secret.

Mr Benson was so impressed on how John was learning quickly and he was proud that he gave him the sword, it was in good hands after all.

Because of the connections of Mr Benson, John was able to apply as a novice rank hunter without paying a single coin.

He was given a white tag which he had to hang on his left chest when he was on a mission, to show that he is a novice hunter.

and he was also given a card which acted like a pass in order to collect missions.

"good luck out there kid." Mr Benson said to John before he left the bounty hall.

The bounty hall was full of different guilds of bounty hunters ready to collect their tasks.

They ranked from bottom to top as follows; novice, amateur, skillful, c, b, a, aa, aaa and s.. bounty hunters.

John went to the counter and scanned his card in the machine. His name was identified and the machine showed out the missions available for novice hunters.

However, John could not claim the mission alone because it was a must for novice and amateur hunters to hunt in a group of five, but the other levels required three members and above.

The only exceptions were for hunters with their ranks at least a or above, who could hunt alone, when out for a mission.

John asked the man on the counter to give him a group and he was lucky enough that there was a group lacking just one member.

John was introduced to a group containing two boys and two girls. They were all at the level of amateurs, which was a rank above John's. They introduced themselves as nick, alexa, ricko and charlotte.

They were all friendly, but the one whom John assumed to be the leader was not happy to take John along, because he thought John could only hold the team back with his lack of skills as a novice hunter.

The leader felt that a lot of time would be spent on teaching John rather than fighting.

" Come on Nick, remember we passed through the same level as him before reaching this level. besides I don't see any one else that we can add to complete the group, we have been waiting here for a long time." Alexa, a girl in the group, convinced Nick.

With all the chit chat, Nick was falling for it until he finally gave up.

" Alright, alright, he is coming, but he gets to carry the luggage, he will be the supply boy. The only reason I am taking him is because he is the only one here, apart from me, with an advanced tier weapon." said nick.

"Alright, let's go get a map."

John and his new found team bought a map from the counter for a silver coin and they sat together to come up with a plan.

A silver coin for John was a lot of money, but in the city it was used to buy a common map.

he could exchange a silver coin for ten bronze coins and on the other hand, ten silver coins could give him one gold coin.

" Okay the demon in question here is a basic tier demon called the shadow dog. they always move in a pack so we might end up facing more than five of them.

the people of this locality have complained of these beasts giving random attacks to people and their livestock.'' Nick said pointing at a location on the map.

"The beasts only come out when it's dark, so we will go at sunset. And if we succeed, we each go back home with two gold coins each."

When Nick said this, John gulped as he was already searching for lies to explain to his parents for returning home late.

but for two gold coins, he could risk it because it could place him just thirteen more gold coins away from completing his fee.
