THE SAVIOR

Peter's back screamed in agony as the whip cracked across his skin once again. He gritted his teeth, trying to steel himself against the pain, but it only served to heighten the agony. He felt tears stinging his eyes, but he refused to let them fall.

"Please," he gasped, his voice hoarse from screaming. "I don't know what you want from me."

The chief royal guard sneered down at him, his thick arms folded across his broad chest. "I want the names of the slave traders," he growled, his eyes glinting with fury. "The ones you collaborated with to kidnap the princess."

Peter's anger boiled within him, and he spat out a mouthful of blood. "I didn't collaborate with anyone," he gritted out. "I saved the princess from three slave traders. That's all I did."

The guard's face twisted with disbelief. "You expect me to believe that a twelve-year-old boy defeated three slave traders and rescued the princess?" he snarled, his grip on the whip tightening.
