CHAPTER 2: THE BEGINNING (2)

If there is one thing I learned from my previous life. Was that whenever I had high hopes, my life creaked breaking down into pieces? It was like a curse weighing me down with despair.

***

At the age of seven, I didn't have that much people I could call friends.

I'd always head home alone when closing from school... Taking detours was a specialty.

Though, it wasn't new to me, it was simply a means to buy time.

And when arriving home, I would always be reminded of the facts that my parents are always away.

Working late in their own offices, but I didn't care about it. Yes, I always didn't.

One day, my eight birthday, I decided to follow a shortcut back home.

It was very rare of me, but being birthday I was filled with a dying hope of once again meeting my parents home early, giving them a "welcome home" greeting and hug filled with their warmth, and enjoy a family meal as we all sat on the dining. That was what I had wished for, but I was naive.

Wishes never come true the way you wish.

As I reached home, it was quiet as always. Not even a single person could be said to live under the house.

But being optimistic, I quickly ran to my room, changed my cloths, arranged the house sparkling clean, and finally sat down alone with a cheerful expression, bracing forth for a birthday celebration.

Though as the night fell, there was no such celebration, all I got was a phone call from my parents telling me they wouldn't be able to come home.

My mind went blank, as I thought.

Why aren't they not coming?

Did they forget my birthday?

Why aren't they coming?

Why? Why? Why? Why?

That was the first day it dawned to me, no matter what I wished for, no matter how much I tried everything

The next morning was the last day I heard about them

***

As I sat at the funeral briefing, voices ringing through my ears with a saddened tone.

Did you hear?

The two died in a car accident on the way home from work.

That's awful.

Apparently, the deceased couple left a young child...

Ehhh...

And his only 7, also his the only child of the family.

That's pitiful, I wonder what's going to happen now to the young boy.

Nevertheless, they're hard worked.

It'd have been better if he had died with

That's sad to hear.

Hearing the voices of those people from behind sounded like laughters ringing in my ears, making my tummy ache with each sound.

*Chuckle*

With an idle chuckle, I whispered, uttering silently in my mind like a delusional person making up a second personality.

Hehe... Hard worker... Don't make me laugh. If it wasn't you people that set up an impractical work time for office workers.

Why am I laughing? Was this really what I wanted?

Drowned in a pool of their intense gazes that fell upon me, I thought to myself.

A-ahh... It would have been better if all the humans in this world vanished.

*Shudder*

*Pant*

Hah... Hah...

Waking up in the comfortable white sheets under my little body, I thought to myself.

Dream?

Glancing away from the staring gray celling of the facility is searched, as I then noticed it was just the usual dream.

I see. It's another dream.

Lately, I have been dreaming a lot about my past, but when I first got reincarnated, I couldn't remember all my past. But now, memories of my past are all in pieces, scrambled, glitching as it plays every time I sleep, like a lucid dream about life that appears every time I sleep.

Nevertheless, the one thing that doesn't change was my dreams always ending with one result. I always forget my the time I awaken. That was how it had always been.

But still, that's rare. I never expected I would be sleeping a lot in this body. Usually in this body, the desire to sleep beats normal reason, as sleep was more like a daily activity or rather a hobby to me.

Is it the effects of being reincarnated, or is it just a coincidence, or rather is it that my former self wants to forget it all?

Hmmm...

*Zap*

Ow... It hurts.

Mind zapping again.

Seems like being this new body had made me forget about my traumatic effect.

Whenever I try to think too much of importance stuffs, my head aches with a short zap in my brain. It always happens to me my previous life. I was hoping I would have changed a bit, but I never expected it to happen again here. Maybe it's more of a mental issue.

But I wonder who those two were at the time of my death...

With a thoughtful look, I recalled over the time of my death.

...

*Slap*

Slapping my face with conviction, I said.

It's just being some months since I came to this new world, so I can't let my past life weigh me down. Instead, I should find ways to keep moving forward.

*Slide*

The sound of the doors sliding drew my attention as I glanced over any noticed two [men in white] talking. listening to the conversation I heard

"How are the babies?"

"They're all fine. Over the past months, they've all shown stable growth, and are all being fed daily with the supplements.

"I see, I think it's time to free them from their boxes... Hmm... I think I would report the issue to the heads, simply keep watch on them."

"OK."

Lately, what the men in white say are mostly baby care stuffs without and information about the facility.

I know babies need to exercise a bit, even my legs feel wobbly from resting all day in this glass box, and the noises of other babies are annoying.

But it's unusual of them to just free us from our boxes.

By the way, what is this facility? Everything about the outside world and the facility is totally unknown.

Haaahhh... I wish I was reincarnated in a game world with a system.

*Jolt*

Wait... Now that I think about this, since this is another world. Wouldn't there be magic?

Hmmm hmm... It looks like now is my time to shine.

From unsheating my eminent magical talent, I would become one of the strongest in this world.

*Laugh*

Hahaha ha... Now's not the time to think about it, all I have to do is try it out.

Huh?!

But... How does magic work again?

. . .

Let me see, first you visualize the image of what you want to do, and then... Poof... Magic? Well, let's test it out.

I stretched out my hands as I murmured

[Arrrggghhh!! Huhh!!!]

I can feel something coming.

*Poof*

The air sounded a slight comical poof as I said to myself.

Huh?! Nothing

Maybe I'd need to chant the spells.

Hmmm...

*Zap*

Ow... It hurts.

Mind zapping again.

*Sigh*

Hah... And here I expected a more fantasy like event, but it seems like magic is a dream away

If I was to be viewed on TV right now, I would have only one word to say.

Am sorry for having you see such a scene.

And please make do with the review of my daily life as a baby.

Just kidding.

Anyway, I don't understand basic baby exquisite, but one thing I can say is living as a baby is a lot of pain in the ass.

So to wrap up the scene, I would like to say, thank you for listening now, if you wouldn't mind.

The baby needs a change of diapers.

{Somewhere in the facility}

*Clang*

Suddenly a man dressed in a black crow mask appeared, with a wierd stance looking like an old man.

His appearance picked the interest of 4 other people who sat at random places in desks lined in an angular way like a theater hall.

The old man glanced at all of them and then said.

I'd like to greet you all again.

Welcome to the project briefing of Area 02.

And thank you for the pleasant response to our call.

One of the 4 people, wearing a long black coat, then stood up to say.

Hey, old man, what is the meaning of this? I didn't hear anything about there being a briefing.

Haha... It is very queerly to hear those words coming from a stray captain.

Captain Cerberuse!!

A woman dressed in a long white coat shouted out in warning to the one in black as she continued.

Please don't insult yourself any further, the project had just started, and this is not the time to fight over personal issues.

The old man in black crow then said.

It is very assuring to have a member of the white knights here.

She then said.

I would take that as a compliment professor.

With a gleefully expression, the old man said

Hehe... what can I say when there is a beauty like you here?

The man in black coat then shouted.

Tsk. Old man!!

Ignoring the one with a black coat, the old man continued

Now... As you all know, 10 subjects have been created using the hero's DNA and mana structure as a base.

This is different from the usual approach we had when creating the previous subjects.

So with the queen's request, you all had to be summoned for the first time to guide the project to its final phase.

The man in black coat then said.

Wait... If we are to guide on with the project, how comes we have no info about the project?

With a blunt reply, the old man said.

That I could say is not much of a worry. On top of your desk are all projects files detailing the roles you would be playing for the smooth run of the project.

I would like to assume you can all read, unlike a specific stray captain.

Hey, old man! Do you want to pick a fight?—

Interrupting the black coat man, he said.

Furthermore, the project files also contain the five phases upon which the project had been set up to take place.

*Thump*

Quietly, the man in black coat sat as he listened.

Phase 1: Subjects growth

Phase 2: Norfork effect

Phase 3: Mana implant

Phase 4: Psyche configuration

Phase 5: the final phase, grown Eliana kingdom soldiers.

If you are finding it all hard to work out with, I insist you say...

For now, if you have not much of a question, it would be best to say now.

Another man dressing in red pondered for a while after listening to the old man.

At first, I was surprised as the Queen of Eliana kingdom called me on to oversee a project like this. A project that had led to many failures is being revived again, and this time the Queen approved its blueprints in a single glance.

What are you thinking about your majesty? and why send me over here? It seems like I only have one choice, and that would be to visit the so-called test subjects.

The man in black coat stood up to say.

Hey old man, who's going to be head of the project?

Who do you think it would be if not me?—

Haha ha... Unacceptable, who would like to work under you old man?

If you are still much displeased with me being the head of the project, why don't I make a suitable suggestion as a placement for the head?

Who?

Commander Leazus!

The whole room shuddered on hearing the word as they all pondered.

Commander Leazus; the highest in ranking of Eliana kingdom's army unit

With a slight grin, the man in black coat pondered.

Hehe... This would be interesting.

*Drop*

The sound of a drop echoed as it resonated through a clear white misty place.

*Drop*

Suddenly a short blonde person dressed in white appeared as she said.

I hope he finds a way to save her this time.
