She went closer to the man to get a closer look at him. She was afraid she had killed a stranger. She leaned down, put her palm over the man's face and when she was certain he was still alive, she heaved a sigh of relief and began to think of what to do. She looked at the man again, wondering loudly if she should help him or just leave him there. She knew that leaving him there would be cruel, she didn’t see any blood but what if he had a concussion or something? He could die if he's not properly attended to.
Even if he had been the one to bump into her, she had been the one who pushed him and caused him to fall, though his fall hadn’t been her intent. But if she helped him, he could report her and she couldn’t afford a scandal, else her father would be very angry at her. Because of his political status, even the smallest incident would become a major story and he couldn’t afford anything affecting his campaign. Leaving would be easier to do but she just didn’t have the heart to be so cruel, and she couldn’t bear having a murder on her conscience.
While she was having her internal struggle, Dennis lay still on the bushy ground, half awake and half unaware of his surroundings. He could see the lady’s silhouette through his half open eyes, although she probably thought he had passed out, and he could hear all she was mumbling to herself. He couldn’t get himself to move, not because of any life threatening injury, but because of what was going on in his mind. His head ached from the fall, but it was as if hitting his head on the stone had restored his brain back to its original setting.
As he lay there, a series of scenes began to play in his mind. He saw his life flash through his eyes, not his life as Dennis, but his real identity, Cade Milton. He began to remember all he had forgotten on the day when he had that accident at the bridge, the day he met and saved Bryan Bellwether. With the knowledge of his past came the knowledge of the betrayal that had almost led to his death. His half brother, Alex had tried to kill him by sending assassins disguised as bodyguards to pick him up at the airport. Even the problems that the company managed by Alex had been having must have been a ploy to make him travel just so he would be killed.
And Alex’s mother, Cassandra must be a part of it too, they must have both conspired to take him out so Alex would take over the company. And he had been gone for four years, so they must have achieved their aim by now. Alex had no idea how to handle such a big business, who knows what had happened in his absence. His father, Mackenzie might also be in on the plan, but Cade wasn’t so sure. The only reason Cade suspected his father was because Cassandra had him wrapped around her finger, and he might have been angry that Cade hadn’t given him back the company when he asked for his CEO position after his cheating scandal had died down.
Cade made a vow to himself to go back home and take his full revenge on the people who had tried to kill him and made him suffer for the past four years. He had endured so much humiliation in the Bellwether family for no reason. Just because they thought he was poor, and he had no memory of his past, they had treated him like trash, except Bryan Bellwether and his wife, Katherine. But the only two people that had shown him kindness were dead now. It made him sad because he couldn’t repay their kindness, but at the same time, he was glad they were no longer part of the family.
Because Cade planned to add the Bellwether family to his revenge list. And he would have no guilt because Bryan and Katherine were already gone, only the family scumbags were left alive. Bryan’s first son, Barnes Bellwether and his only son, Derek Bellwether had always despised him. Hailey’s mother, Kaylee, was the second child of Bryan Bellwether and apart from Hailey, the woman also had a younger son named Henderson. None of them would escape his wrath, especially Hailey Bellwether. He had loved her and she had betrayed him so deeply.
The woman that knocked him down tried to help him up as she noticed him stirring. His head was beginning to ache a little less as the onslaught of memories receded and he was about to stand when he saw two men coming towards them. They were behind the woman so she couldn’t see them, especially since her attention was focused on helping him stand. But Cade could clearly see that their attention was fixed on her, one of the men had a rope twined around his hand and the other had a small sack. At first, Cade had a paranoid thought that the Bellwether family had sent assassins to finish him off, but then he thought better of it– no one else knew he had come here. They must be here for the woman, but why? Who was she?
They were walking stealthily towards the unsuspecting lady, looking behind and around themselves. Cade stopped trying to get up from the ground as he realised that the men hadn’t noticed his presence because he was on the ground and the woman was blocking their view of him from that angle. He had to do something, but what could he possibly do now that they were so close and his head still ached a little like he'd been hit with a hammer?
He wondered if his fighting skills would return as well as his memories had done. Even with his busy schedule as a CEO, he had learned martial arts and had been regular to the gym in order to be able to protect himself, but he hadn’t practised any of that in the years since he lost his memory. But he had to try either way. The woman had stayed back to try and help him even though she could have just easily walked off after pushing him to the ground. He would return the favour by helping her as well.
Cade knew he had to act fast. Since the men hadn’t seen him yet, he still had the element of surprise on his side but he knew that it would only give him a few seconds of advantage over them. The men were only a few steps away from them and as soon as the men got close enough, he jumped off the floor. caused the men to fall simultaneously. The woman was startled by his abrupt movement, and it also made him feel a little woozy, but he achieved his aim. His movement had also startled the men and they both fell back with startled gasps. The thud from behind made the lady look in that direction, and she stared in awe at the men on the floor. She wondered where they came from but as she saw their hostile expressions and the rope and sack each man held, she immediately knew that they were dangerous. She could not even bring herself to scream thinking that she might make the situation worse, but she really wanted to scream. She didn’t know it, but she was already shaking. She hadn’t come wit
Cade frowned as he heard that.“What is the problem?” He asked.“The credit card you used to pay for this room has been cancelled. We just received a call from the bank that you stole the card, and the owner has blocked you from accessing it. Normally, we would press charges against you for such fraudulent activity, but the Bellwether family and the hotel management have decided to let you go free in order to avoid a scandal. Pack your things and leave, you are no longer welcome in our establishment.”He was both surprised and angry as he listened to the receptionist speak. He hadn’t stolen the card, it had been given to him and though he hadn’t returned it before leaving, he hadn’t actually committed a crime. Besides, he planned to return it as soon as he was able to access his own money. After throwing him out, they still couldn’t let him at least use the card for one night? How cruel. And how were they even able to trace the card transaction so fast. He had expected that they would
Gale and Cade got to the restaurant and chose a spot to sit. It wasn’t a five star restaurant but it was close by and Gale had eaten there before so he knew that their meals were okay. They just needed a place to talk and sort out some things before making plans to return back to the luxury they were used to. When they had sat and looked at the menu on the table, they made their orders. Gale watched with a shocked expression as Cade ate voraciously. When Cade had said he had been starving, Gale did not realise that his boss was this hungry. Cade was eating like someone who had been starving for days. Gale only took his gaze off when Cade looked up at him."The food here is nice," Cade said, impressed by the delicious food before him. He wondered within himself whether the food was really good or if it was just the hunger that was speaking. "It’s not the best, but at least it's edible. You’ll be surprised at how many restaurants around here serve rubbish. I wonder how people eat stuf
“Don’t get angry, it has already happened. Besides, she volunteered to do it. She wanted to hold on to the position so it would not be given to Alex. Even in her grief, she still believed you were alive and you would come back someday. The board immediately accepted her as the CEO because they know she is a better candidate. In fact, she was supposed to take over after your father was removed, instead of you, but she stepped down so you would lead, because she wants the best for you.”As Gale said that, Cade relaxed. He had thought that they forced his sick mother to work for their own selfish gain. It turned out that she was only looking out for his best interest. He listened as Gale continued speaking."Your father however, was not in support of this. He wanted Alex to be the CEO. After all, Alex was his second son, and in the absence of his first, the second was to take over. He did not care what the board had to say about Alex being inexperienced in running a business and ignoranc
"I knew they were greedy, but I never realised just how far they were willing to go to achieve what they want. And I'm sure that all this is the work of Cassandra, her son is too dumb to come up with a plan on his own. Or maybe he's actually behind everything and has just been pretending to be dumb so we'll underestimate him while he plots behind our backs. Or it could even be your father's doing and they're all his puppets. He has resented you ever since you refused to give him back the company after his shameful removal as CEO." Gale said.Cade inhaled deeply and exhaled out. He was more than sure of his revenge now. Not only did they plot and carry out an assassination attack on him, they had caused the company so much loss. The company that he had worked so hard for, the company he lost his teenage life to. They would pay dearly for their atrocities. For causing his mother so much grief and making her get back to a hectic life when she should be retired and relaxing.Gale had fini
Cade chuckled at Gale’s surprise. “Why are you so shocked? I’m quite handsome, you know. Who wouldn’t want me as their son in law?” “Your mother will be glad to see you married at least. She was already pestering you about having a family before you went missing.” Galre replied.“Unfortunately, I no longer have a wife. The old man and his wife may have wanted me as part of their family, but his children and grandchildren hated me, my ex wife included. They pretended to accept me and agreed that I should marry Hailey, the granddaughter. I was happy to get married to a beautiful woman like her, but she wasn't happy because she didn't love me and that's actually fair. But everyone was hostile to me when the old man was absent, Hailey included. They hated me because the old man had a soft spot for me and it was like I had come to steal their shine. But that was not it, the old man just liked me because of what I did for him and he felt responsible for me because of my amnesia. Without
It was already late now. Cade decided within himself to go to the bank the next day. He wouldn’t be able to access all of his money just yet until he got back home, but what he could access would be enough for what he planned to do. Gale offered to let Cade sleep in with him in his room at another hotel where he stayed for this trip. It was the least he could do at this moment. He knew that if roles were reversed, Cade would help him, and that Cade was going to take his rightful place soon. As for Cade, he could not wait until morning when he could do what he had in mind. He was lucky to have remembered some of his account details as well, so recovering his account would be no big deal. He was also going to use his influence. He knew that an ordinary person could not recover an account after several years without observing some protocols, but he was sure that immediately he mentioned who he was, he would not have to go through all that. As he lay on Gale's bed, he heaved a sigh of re
Gale was beyond shocked as he heard what his boss said. He knew that Cade was pissed off at the way they dared to treat him when he was the Milton Conglomerate heir, but he never expected Cade to retaliate like this. Spending so much money for revenge, because definitely, the hotel won’t be sold cheaply even if it wasn’t a five star place. The ride was then silent till they got to the hotel, mostly because Gale was still processing everything. The hotel was filled with people loitering around, some of them booking new rooms, some of the others checking out, and a few just going in and out of the hotel. It was unlike the one where he and Gale had slept the night that was more classy and refined. This one was really busy. Cade went to the bored looking receptionist, it was the same one who talked to him rudely last time. The receptionist was another indication of just how trashy this place was, the man was busy looking at his phone while he was on duty."What do you want?" The recepti
