DARKNESS

After the police car disappeared, and the headlights faded into the darkness, Mason smiled. He could see the way the dejected officer returned to his car. They had no idea that he wasn't far away from them. He had been able to hide the car in thick vegetation, but from a small patch, he could see them. He grinned as soon as they were gone.

Nothing felt better than victory. He felt a rush of adrenaline as he revelled in the satisfaction. With a mocking laugh, he stepped out of his car and started to survey his surroundings once again. He wanted to make sure that there wasn't anybody hanging around.

Even though the officers were gone, he reasoned that there could still be one of them hanging around the area. His eyes glinted with a predatory gleam as he relished the thrill of the chase. He slowly walked out of the vegetation and looked around.
