The next morning, Cage got a call from Grandpa Richland to inform him that the date for Rochelle's trial was today and would be happy if he went on to represent the family because he wouldn't be going. There was a tinge of disappointment in his voice as he spoke about Rochelle, which wasn't surprising at all. There was no way he would have sounded happy talking about someone who wanted to kill her only sister and her husband. But despite that, Cage knew was still pretending to have no hand in it, but he knew the old man would be apprehended soon. He thanked Grandpa Richland and ended the call, letting him know that he will check his schedule and see if he can meet up. As soon as he ended the call, he knew he had to let Chloe know. She was still on the bed when he entered. Her eyes were wide open but it seemed she didn't want to get out of bed yet. "Hey." Cage called out softly before he sat beside her on the bed. He knew it would be a difficult day for the family, but he hoped for
Despite her dishevelled appearance, he could still see that she still looked defiant and somewhat enraged because of what was about to happen. It showed just how much she wasn't going to let things go yet. Her heart was still burning with anger and hatred for what had been done to her family and her. Well, Cage thought, none of that would have happened if they had decided to keep to themselves and not try to revenge unnecessarily. They got what they deserved and Cage didn't pity her but at this point. He remembered what Chloe said about her still hating them, and seeing the look on her face right now, he knew it was probably true. How could someone be so vengeful and angry for that long? He wondered, suspecting that something was really wrong with her, mentally. But that wasn't his problem, his intent was making sure she got what she deserved and it wouldn't be too long before that happened. But despite the defiance in her eyes, it was clear that the whole thing had taken a toll o
They spent the whole of the following week making arrangements for the party, while she recovered from what had happened to Rochelle. She wished there was a way to help her sister out of jail and help her out by bringing her back to her senses. But she knew there was nothing that could be done now. It was too late. So she just let it die, and stopped thinking about it since Cage wasn't wasn't when he saw her looking so moody and staring into space. As they were making final preparations for the upcoming party, he got a call from Zo. He was happy because he knew something good must have happened. Zo never called unless there was something he wanted to let Cage know or if there was good news. Somehow he felt it was the latter, and his suspicions were confirmed not longer after that. He put the phone in his ears and suspended what he was doing. "Hey Zo, how is it going?" His tone was an expectant one as he answered. Zo replied with a racy tone. "Great, Master Cage. I've got some ex
After the prayers had been said and everyone was settled to dine together, Cage stood up from his seat and took Chloe's hand. She stood up as well and flashed him a bright smile. Proud and determined, he took a deep breath and started to announce the good news about his latest accomplishment. That was the only thing good to talk about tonight, he thought. Everyone looked over at them as he got ready to speak. Chloe was equally happy. "Everyone, I have something important to share with you all." Cage announced. His racy voice carried across the room, and from the smile on his face, everyone knew it was going to be something good. "I'm glad to announce to you people that I'm now the CEO of Marine and Shares, the largest company in our city and in the world right now." Chloe wrapped her hand around his and chuckled, leaning in. The announcement, meanwhile, elicited gasps of surprise and admiration from the assembled guests. "Wow!" Grandpa Richland exclaimed and clapped his hands jus
The look on the old man's face immediately and the fact that he wasn't doing anything to resist the arrest said so much. The detective, however, was very alert in case he tried to do anything funny. He couldn't trust anybody no matter their age. He could look old and unsuspecting, but the fact that he had done something that grievous was a sign that he could do anything. Cage observed his grandfather's distress as he walked towards Chloe and held her hand gently. She was still enraged and it seemed to take everything within her not to lash out at Cage right now and push him away. Holding her in place, he gently let her rest her head on his shoulder, hoping she wouldn't lash out at him. He could feel her anger and didn't want anything that would aggravate her any further. "Listen to me, shouting won't change anything. I'll do something about this, ok? There is no way we're going to fight the detective." He said to her, even though she didn't look any convinced. She still looked enra
The man shook his head as soon as he uttered the words and it took some time before it settled. The detective, together with everyone inside the room, gasped in pure shock. Chloe, who was sobbing, stopped immediately and didn't say a damn word. The whole thing was too much for her to believe. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her own grandfather whom she had trusted so much, the one person she never expected to do something like that, had done and had in fact, confessed that he was the one. She prayed that it was all a joke and he wasn't serious, but considering the situation and the dangers involved right now, she knew he wasn't joking. Her worst fears had been realised. It could actually be true. She was shaking with fear after he had said that, she took a step back, feeling her heart break into a million pieces. It was too much for her to accept. Dizzy with emotion, Cage staggered backward as well when he heard the news. In that moment, everything he knew about the fami
"Get the fuck out before I deal with you!" Cage yelled before he attacked Grandpa Richland who was defenceless because of the cuffs around his wrist. But the police officers who were nearby quickly intervened and separated them before he could do more harm. "Please calm down." The detective said to him, before walking between Cage and Grandpa Richland to prevent any further altercation or attack. "I mean... leave him alone. The law will take care of this." The detective corrected himself, knowing that asking him to calm down was the most unrealistic and worst thing he could ask Cage to do right there. Cage didn't say anything, he just stood there, breathing heavily as he stared at the old man whose face was bowed in shame and sadness. Chloe didn't know what to say, her heart was beating so fast in her chest. She was going through a wide range of conflicting emotions and it wasn't helping matters at all. "Cage..." She whispered, sounding so anguished. The rest of her words stuck
Cage nodded, grateful and angry. "Thank you so much for everything detective, I'm happy that you were the only person who listened to me while everyone else doubted what i was saying. I am so grateful. And I also appreciate what you are still doing." He said, before a ghost of a smile flashed across his face. As soon as he hung up the phone, he turned to Chloe who was staring at him. He put down the phone and kissed her. "I'm surprised we aren't even talking about your cousin who was also arrested. She shouldn't have done that." He said, shaking his head. Chloe nodded. "It's still a shock. I had no idea my family was this fucked up." She shrugged, looking so uncomfortable. It is still too much for her to come to terms with. "I couldn't couldn't believe she would do something like that, even though... There has always been trouble between her and Micheal. It feels like she always hated him. They were always quarrelling and fighting whenever there was a get-together." She said, sigh
