UNGRATEFUL

Bryan glanced at Ronald with a questioning look, "Where did you vanish out of a sudden?"

Ronald sat down next to Bryan, "Is this an answer to my question? Don't tell you're frowning because of me, do you miss me?"

Bryan shrugged his shoulders opening the tin, "just some random stuff that popped up in my mind, who would miss Mr. Annoying?"

"Aish, whatever, I got a call and went away for a while, remembered that you had nothing from the morning, so decided to grab a drink for you, while I'm going this much for you, you're just calling me annoying," Ronald complained taking a sip of his coke.

Bryan chuckled, taking a sip of his own drink, "you know very well what I mean or what I don't mean, so stop being a drama queen not in a mood to coax you."

Ronald glanced around with ease since somehow he changed the mood of Bryan, "should we stick to this couch, until the young master of the Winterwood family wakes up from his beauty sleep?"

"What other choice do we have apart from this?" Bryan sighed, gazing up at the ceiling not understanding his own situation, "Sometimes I wonder if I'm the adopted one or if he is."

"You're thinking that now? I've had that thought for ages after witnessing everything," Ronald chuckled joining the confusion banter along with Bryan.

Bryan rolled his eyes trying to remind what kind of people were present in his family, "you don't need to worry about that, my family is not as simple as you think, they can't even believe their own shadow, they ran a bunch of tests before confirming that I was the one they lost years ago, in order to accept their own child even after all the tests it took for a while for them, so there's no way they would bring me home if I wasn't their own child."

"I still remember the day they took you home, the happiness in your eyes, I feel it as yesterday only" Ronald said remembering those days.

Bryan smiled faintly, taking a sip of coke once again, "I don't know if finding my family and reconciling with them is a reason to celebrate, or if I should regret being a part of a family that doesn't care about me at all."

"Time is the only one who can give you answers, buddy," Ronald said, trying to offer some reassurance, Bryan shook his head with a cold expression on his face, "My hope is fading more each day, Ron, I'm not even sure if it's worth it or not hoping that everything would be okay."

Bryan and Ronald sat calmly, waiting for Jake to wake up from the sleep, so that after meeting him, both of them can leave.

A nurse approached them coming out of the room, "Mr. Bryan, we need these medicines, can you bring them please?"

Bryan nodded his head taking the prescription both Ronald and Bryan went to bring them, after bringing everything in the prescription, Bryan handed the medicine to Ronald, "Here, go in and give it to them."

"You don't want to do it yourself?" Ronald questioned, but Bryan's stern look silenced further objections, Ronald took the bag and hurried inside.

As Ronald was the one who delivered the medicine rather than Bryan made Josephine to check on Bryan.

Josephine came out from the room and spotted Bryan still seated on the couch, with a frustrated look on his face.

Sitting beside Bryan, Josephine asked softly, being concerned for him, "Are you upset with Mom and Dad?" Bryan shook his head silently, his thoughts swirling in around multiple emotions.

"Bryan, you're older than Jake, and you have everything, parents, sisters who love you and call you as your own, but Jake, he's adopted into our family, if we don't show him love and care, won't he feel left out and hurt?" Josephine's words were gentle, but that struck within Bryan.

Internally, Bryan couldn't help but feel bitter after hearing to her mother's explanation being considerate only about Jake's feelings rather than his own feelings, "parents and sisters to call as my own? They're just there in name for me, in reality, it's Jake who's surrounded by love and attention by parents and sisters, what exactly do I have as my everything? Besides a surname, though I'm just living in his shadow."

"Bryan, you know Jake always wanted to marry Tracy, but her family insisted on having you as their son-in-law, he sacrificed his love for you, Bryan, can't you see that?" Josephine's voice held a lot of emotions but none of those emotions are concerned about Bryan.

"Jake never wanted to marry Tracy until I mentioned about getting married to her, he gave up on Tracy because he found someone more useful, he didn't sacrifice anything, he just let go of something he didn't want and that's a sacrifice only for you mom," Bryan thought to himself, but he kept his thoughts to himself, knowing his mother would never accept it even if he says that.

"Jake is innocent and caring, he always puts your happiness first, he is devastated that your marriage has been called off, Bryan, he is blaming himself for everything, though it's your fault," Josephine said being extremely sad for Jake's suffering.

"My fault?" Bryan was confused as he struggled to understand his mother's words.

Josephine nodded, her eyes are directly accusing Bryan, "Yes, isn't it your fault? You're the one who rushed the marriage and chose that particular place for the wedding, if not for that, would our Jake have gotten into an accident? Because of you and your decisions, he's suffering there, don't you feel sorry for him? Aren't you sad for what he's going through because of you and your wedding?"

Her words literally frustrated Bryan though he is controlling it for sometime, "how is it my fault, Mom? I never rushed the wedding, it's Tracy's parents who rushed the wedding, everyone has a dream place for their wedding and I chosen the place I like, I don't think any of this are wrong."

Josephine silently stared at Bryan as he continued, "coming to his accident, did I ask him to drive recklessly or something? I don't see how any of this is related to me, he's the one who drove irresponsibly and ended up in an accident, to be precise it's not even a serious one, neither he nor the car is injured, So, how can you expect me to take the blame for it?"

"Bryan, how can you say such things?" Josephine sighed heavily holding her head, disappointment can be clearly seen on her face, "I never thought you could be so heartless and immoral."

"Fine, what do you want me to do now, Mom?" Bryan came straight to the point, understanding that she had a purpose in coming to him.

Josephine's expression turned normal, she held Bryan's hand with a gentle smile, "I know you'll understand this mother always, though sound harsh you're always the obedient and kind son of mine, so come and apologize to Jake."

"Apologize?" Bryan's voice came out in disbelief as he repeated his mother's words, "I thought you were here to comfort me, but it seems I was wrong, you're here for another purpose, you want me to apologize to the guy who ruined my wedding? How can you expect that I'll apologize to the guy who ruined my happiness?"

As soon as Bryan ended his words, a harsh slap landed straight on his cheek, "I never imagined you could be so ungrateful, I'm ashamed to call you my son.”
