Now that Rex was well-known around the university for a good thing as one of the highest rank students in his third year he thought that people might take more of a liking to him but that was still not the case even after he practically saved them from the rampage that would have gone on during the emerald battle. 

 

 It became obvious that they were just viciously jealous of him and the talents that he had that many of them did not possess and so wildly inwardly admired him and wished they could be like him. The insecurity that they were battling with made it only possible for this to show through vicious criticism.

 It was so bad that people practically twisted the emerald battle leaving out the part where he had battled with the monster and only including the part where Lyra had saved him, and for a lot of students with fragile egos this was something that they could swallow easily.
