Sylvester would have had to run if he was still living his life under a rock. He still had to lay low, but not as much as he did before. Now, he was able to freely use the funds from his main account, and with it, he had bought himself a car.

An Infernus MX – 3000 was a beast. A beautiful beast, and Sly tore through the city to Klaus Wayfinder’s house.

No way. There was just no way that his mentor could turn up dead like that.

It didn’t seem possible.

“More like improbable,” Geral hummed as he too took a look at the scene when they arrived there.

His student was right. There was no way this death was natural. He was less than 70, and before Sly cut communications to go low, he could still throw a backflip…a better backflip than he.

To put it simply, Klaus was not your regular old man. He was powerful. Way too powerful to die so soon.

“Even being ‘killed’, still feels unlikely,” Sylvester mused as he stepped through the broken pieces of equipment and the disheveled furniture in the ma

“Okay, so…I don’t mean to be ‘that guy’, but what does that thing do?” Geral asked his teacher. The orb in his hand glowed white, and from what Geral was used to, anything that glowed and pulsed was really powerful.“Even I don’t know, G,” Sly sighed. But he was going to find out.He took the orb and looked for an opening, or a latch. Anything that would mean ‘opening’ it as Klaus had said in his letter.“Uhh…Sir…we’re doing that here? What if it…I dunno…blows up?” Geral asked with a concerned stare that brought some level of reasoning back to Sylvester. He was too carried away with his determination to care about possibilities like that. “Oh, yeah…we should probably go somewhere spacious, where magical energy can be quickly dispersed as well…in case it unleashes…something,” he handled the orb with a little more care, now that Geral had mentioned it, and the both of them took a drive in Sylvester’s car all the way to an empty field in the outskirts of the city. Most people were done

Sly didn’t have to, but he put himself through some physical training to prepare himself for the battle. It was going to be a brutal one, and annually, there were usually a number of deaths recorded from the event.Sly already had years of experience, and months of training via the portal that he was stuck in for five minutes – or five months – if you were counting from his perspective, so he was more than ready. As they made their way to the event, he pondered on the usefulness of it all. They lived in a society where domestic violence was considered a grave crime towards humanity, and murder meant you could be locked up for the rest of your life in the deepest, darkest parts of the state prison. However, somehow, by signing a piece of paper, agreeing to lay no blame on anyone, you basically extradite yourself from that law, and can be killed without judgement on the person that kills you. However, that means that the person that also kills you, can be killed by you without the fear

“We should act now!” Agnon grunted as he made his way to the conference room, talking to his assistant, a lieutenant in the army, who was small framed, but actually a well-seasoned fighter. Her special abilities lied in the fact that people usually underestimated her before getting into a tussle, which ended with them losing woefully. She adjusted her glasses and nodded, following her boss and agreeing with everything he said. That was really all she had to do.They entered the room, and the table was already filled with other high-ranked officials, colonels and commanders of fleets.“What are we waiting for? It’s been a long-time since anything substantial has happened in Greele. Those people will not see an attack coming,” he all but shouted as he entered into the conference room. That was his version of a ‘Good morning’. Agnon was the general of the army of Linodermia, the country that lost the war Sylvester lost his legs to.They came to a truce to avoid being wiped out, and signe

Sylvester watched the men fall left right and center. They had no choice. They had to eventually bow the knee to his supremacy. It was inevitable. And yet, something didn't feel right. He looked to his left and right, and watched the crowd erupt in cheers. They loved the performance. Some of the men on the battleground were probably dead. A lot of them would be permanently injured. All of them that could walk out of this field, would come out with a scar for life. Sylvester knew that. And yet, something didn't feel right.Of course, the opposition wasn't so happy. This was a competition that they had won nearly every year. For one man to just come here and dog-walk the entire set and make everything that they had held in such high regards feel like a child play...it made Dagon livid. The veins on his head looked like they'd pop if he held that position a little longer, and the people by his side looked a little bit concerned."Who the hell does he think he is?!" He yelled, slamming h

As soon as Sylvester opened his eyes, he was alert. That was one of the cruel gifts training had given him.Unlike most normal people, he didn't have that slight fog of mind from waking up from a deep slumber. That feeling was lost the moment he became a soldier. Now it was no different. As soon as his eyes opened, his neck snapped to the left and then to the right. He sighed in relief.Emily was beside him.She was sound asleep, though, and he could tell she wasn't hurt from the peace in her pulse that he could sense, even though he wasn't touching her.He focused his attention on the place to try and get as much information from it as possible. You can't escape what you don't know. He looked at the empty cabinets and studied them. Most were empty, some were not.But the room was really dusty, so it made Sylvester wonder. There were cardboard boxes everywhere, and in some places, there were locks that needed keys to get into. That was his answer. They were in an abandoned postal room

They got into Dylan’s car, and he looked rather nervous to have them there, but that didn’t stop him from helping. He looked around for a bit and his eyes landed on Emily.“What is it?” Sylvester growled defensively. He didn’t like people looking at his wife for longer than they normally should.“Your stuff,” he hummed. “Bags, your jacket…give me a second.”Dylan bailed out of the car and sprinted in a direction coming back in less than a minute. “Here,” he handed the bag to Emily and jacket to Sly. “Don’t ask me why they took that.”He started the car, and off they were.Staring outside the window, Emily could really see just how far away from the city they were. She could see the outlines of skyscrapers that seemed to be so far away, it would take a jet to get to it. She gasped. Why did the Hades family really do this?Sylvester, on the other hand, took the moment to get some sleep. The entire fight had exhausted him. And from an exhausting fight to being knocked out and tied, he wa

Emily paced the floors as the students of her husband tried to fix whatever undoing that the clan of Hades had caused him.All the while, she felt like it was her fault. She wanted to apologize…but she didn’t know how to go about it. She didn’t know what to say. What was certain was that if she didn’t pressure him into the event, he would have been hale and strong by now.She felt terrible, and the looks that Katherine gave her were making her feel worse.Of course, Katherine could do nothing. She could say nothing, even though she wanted, within everything in her, to strangle Emily for putting their master in such precarious situations. The man that was destined to be the love of her life!Katherine felt if she was in the ring, she would have fought beside Sylvester. She was sure Emily just stood by the sidelines looking pretty and feeling like she had control over the man, to which, in some sense, she did.It irritated her.Emily could tell Katherine didn’t like her, and the ‘why’ w

Sylvester scanned the room to make sure all his students were paying attention.Undivided and unequivocally, they were.Once he was sure, he explained to them in full details the happenings of the past few weeks. Gerald was aware of most of the events, so he helped with straightening out the events where all Sly could see was red, like when he ended the Lankester bloodline. He stood before his students, his gaze steady, his presence commanding. Though the room was small, a quiet intensity filled the air, pressing on the three figures before him. Katherine, Gerald, and Verity sat in rigid attention, their eyes fixed on their master, waiting for his words.“Something’s coming,” he said, seemingly out of place, and wanting more clarity, Geral asked. “The food delivery?”Sylvester gave him a stern glare. “I’m sorry.”“I can feel it. I can feel the evil,” Sylvester continued on his ramble. “When I was fighting those men, I couldn’t help but sense that there was something watching us…as a

Edrag had not traveled across continents just to watch his plans crumble before they even began. The lounge welcomed him – they had no choice, and he sat there, brooding as the city buzzed, unaware of the ominous presence that lurked within, right under their very noses. He looked out with disdain. The false peace annoyed him. He swirled the dark liquid in his glass, his fingers tightening around it. The ice clinked softly against the crystal, but his thoughts were anything but calm. He arrived in Greele undetected. Of course, he wasn’t welcome in the country, so he had to smuggle his way in. It wasn’t a ‘smuggle’ in that sense of the word, but since there were many people in Greele that wanted Sylvester dead, they were able to silence port security and immigration services. Hence, there were no unnecessary displays of power, or anything grand. The perfect cover. And yet, before he could make a single move, Sylvester had already burned down a significant portion of his netw

  • Chapter 67

Sylvester had won countless battles, conquered enemies, and faced impossible odds without flinching. Needless to say, his life was one big adrenaline-filled storyline. Yet, nothing on earth came close to the rush he felt when Emily said those three words. Surreal. “I love you,” He had replayed the moment in his mind a hundred times over the past week. No matter how many times he thought about it, he still couldn’t bring himself to believe it was what he heard. Maybe a lucid dream? He ran with it, though. If she truly felt tat way about him, then it was his responsibility to reciprocate. He loved her a thousand times before she loved him. She must have known that ever since. Now that the traffickers had been handled, Sylvester shifted his focus. The war was a storm gathering on the horizon, and every day felt closer to a catastrophe he didn’t feel quite ready for. He couldn’t afford to be complacent. But before it reached them, before another fight threatened to pull him

  • Chapter 66

Emily paced the length of her sitting room, arms folded tightly across her chest. She had been waiting for hours, long enough for her mind to run through every possible scenario of how this conversation with Sylvester would go. Would he listen? Would he care? Cullen attacked him. Cullen wanted to kill him. If he was back home since that time, he would have told her first, but he had been out on a mission. Something about human traffickers. Really grueling stuff. She just hoped that Cullen’s attack didn’t do too much to set Sylvester and his team back. If it did, then, he wouldn’t be back that day, and she was fine with it. However, Geral’s car pulled into the lot, and the lights from his headlights illuminated the semi-dim house, alerting her of his arrival. The moment she sensed his presence, she turned toward the door. The knob twisted, and then Sylvester stepped in. “Hi, Emily,” Geral waved as he put his car into reverse. Emily waved back and gave a quick smile as he pul

Most of them still had the shock frozen on their faces – the victims. Usually, in situations like these, you do not get rescued. Each of them had already sealed their fate. Either their organs were going to be harvested, or they were going to be forced into a lifetime of servitude (mostly sexual and drug related). It was staple that when you went missing, you never returned. And yet, here were some men promising them that they would be returned to their families as soon as possible. It felt surreal. Some of them that had made friends in their captivity clung to each other, not knowing what else to say. Braver ones whose tongues had loosened up, offered words of thanks to Sylvester and his men. Sylvester exhaled, rolling his shoulders. The mission was dicey…especially via the path where he had to use Otto as bait, but it had been a success. Gerald wiped his blade on a discarded cloak and gave Sylvester a nod. “So, what do we do with the clan leaders and their minions?” Sylvest

The moment Sylvester returned to the group, all eyes were on him. The men could tell just by his expression that something had changed.“So…change of plans,” he announced. “We can’t afford a direct assault while the hostages are still in there. If we strike now, they’ll be the first casualties.”Geral folded his arms. “So what’s the new plan?”“We separate the minions from their leaders. If we get them away, it would be easier to escalate without the hostages being at risk,” Sylvester reasoned. “I don’t want anyone of them to get hurt.”Katherine shook her head. “You’re a better person than I am.”“I know,” Sylvester huffed.“And how exactly do we do that?” Geral inquired. “I don’t suppose we have any sirens here that can sing an alluring song or whatever it is that can lure em out, do we?”Sylvester’s gaze landed on Otto. “We send in bait.”The group exchanged looks, and Otto straightened his spine. “Uh…”“You, Otto,” Katherine almost chuckled out loud. “He’s suggesting we send you i

The preparation chilled everyone.First, there was the laughter and the light jests as the men suited up. They poked at one another and made jokes about how one looked awkward in their gear. They played around with unloaded firearms and had a great overall time in general.Until Sylvester came to announce to them that they would be leaving. The whole room went dim, and it was almost as though the realization hit everyone at the same time. This was the real deal. There was the possibility of some of them coming out of this with injuries. There was the possibility of some of them not coming out at all.“I'm coming with you,” Otto announced, his voice firm despite the slight tremor in his hands.Sylvester barely spared him a glance. “No, you're not.”Otto's jaw clenched. “I deserve to be there. You promised I could fight when I was ready.”“Yes. Exactly,” Sylvester countered. “When you’re ready. I’ll tell you when you are.”“I am ready.”“No, you're not.”Otto's fists curled. “I am. I w

Emily was staring at the papers in front of her with intent, hoping that if she stared long enough, they’d burst into flames and disappear.25 pages was a lot of work. And she was supposed to review it. Her attorney said she must. That’s when the calls started coming in.At first, she ignored it, assuming it was just another work-related message. If she had to respond to another idiot telling them to go ahead with what she had already given the go-ahead for days ago, she’d lose her mind. But then it buzzed again. And again. With a sigh, she pulled it out of her pocket and glanced at the screen.“Unknown number.”Her brow furrowed. It wasn’t often she got calls from unknown numbers, and instinct told her to let it go to voicemail. But something in her gut twisted, urging her to answer.Reluctantly, she swiped to accept. “Hello?”“Is this Emily?” a woman’s voice asked.“Yes. Who’s this?”“This is Nurse Evelyn from North Vale Medical Center. You were listed as the emergency contact for

Pain. That was the first thing that greeted his body as soon as his mind drifted back into consciousness. So much, that even opening his eyes came at a cost he wasn’t able to pay immediately, so he just kept them close.Instead, he let the pain engulf his body, like molten magma spread through his entire body. The pain ate its way through his joints, muscles and flesh. It felt like the most painful way to go yet he knew this wasn’t his time. With great effort, Cullen opened his eyes.A hospital. The harsh fluorescent lighting made him wince. The sterile white ceiling stared back at him, unfamiliar yet unmistakably medical. He tried to shift, but his muscles refused to cooperate. That’s when he noticed the IV in his arm, the heart monitor attached to his chest. His mind raced. How did he get here?Sylvester. There was no denying it.The place he had ambushed him was lonely…too lonely for anyone to have come across him by chance. Heck, they had a lot of time to fight, and no authoritie

Sylvester stood over the collection of weapons laid out before him. Rows of well-engineered firearms, finely crafted swords, spears, and daggers gleamed under the dim lantern light. Beside them, crates of small crystal-infused devices capable of boosting one’s strength and reflexes. They all sat ready for distribution. He nodded in satisfaction. This would do.“Geral,” he called.Geral stepped forward, arms crossed. “Master. You called?”“You’re in charge of these,” Sylvester said, gesturing toward the arsenal. “Make sure every recruit gets what they need.”Geral’s eyebrows rose. “You don’t think this is too much? I mean…these are new recruits. Do they really need this much fire power?”Katherine was passing by, taking some things to and from the store. On hearing the conversation, she frowned. “That’s too little if anything. No grenades? No thowables?” her voice got louder as she got further. “Molotov cocktails? Although, I could prep that on the go…”Sylvester smirked. “I trust you
