Ray continued, his voice dripping with malice. “For months, I’ve been trying to get to Mello. And tonight, when I saw you two together, it all became clear. I knew exactly what to do.” He laughed, a harsh, cruel sound.

“I watched him announce you as his bride and saw you smiling like a fool. It all made sense. You’re so cheap! When I first saw you, all I had to do was take you out on some nice dates and as stupid as you are, you fell for me. You still have a choice—me or Mello. But now, it dawned on me that I’ve gotten Mello’s most prized possession.”

Hot tears dropped from her eyes as the truth hit her. Everything had been a lie. The beautiful dates, the attention—it had all meant nothing to him. She felt sick to her stomach, realizing she’d been played and deceived.

She couldn't hold herself from bursting out.
