Alarick crushed the plush leather seats beneath his palms as he fumed.

"What the hell did you just do? You had the audacity to try and run away even when I told you what would happen?"

"What did you expect me to do? Sit down and look pretty for people who would hate me if they knew I am not as rich as they are? Wait for a man who keeps insisting that I killed my own father and who has kept me in his house against my will for this long?"

Alarick's eye twitched and the veins on his neck became more prominent as he clenched his jaw.

"So, you abandoned one of the most influential women in the city just so that you could go back out to continue your killing spree with Dylan? Is destroying people's lives more important than doing the right thing?" He yelled back.

Charlotte stayed silent, at a loss for words because of what Alarick had said. After all her confessions on how she wasn't complicit in Dylan's crimes, after all she had done to show Alarick that she was innocent, after the damn ki

Alarick had not gone in to see her but ever so often he would send one of his men to ask her the same question. Are you ready to confess? Charlotte would still shake her head and say that she was innocent. It was morning now, and although she had slept on the bare floor, she still refused to speak. As Alarick sat in his father's study, browsing through some documents, he received another report from one of his men that he had sent to her room. The guard stood at the corner of the room waiting for Alarick's go ahead to speak. Alarick waved his hands in approval and the man started."She still maintains that she's innocent. She looks pale sir."Alarick slammed his hand that still held papers, on the table. He threw a book across the room and stood up. Why was she so stubborn? Why wouldn't she break?Alarick took a deep breath to calm himself. Getting worked up wouldn't help him. Alarick turned back to the man who still stood there unmoved by his outburst."It's fine. "Come in."Like before, one of Charlotte's guards walked into the room."Has she said anything? Anything at all?" Alarick asked. It had been a few hours since Henry Dumont left his house and the time he had given Charlotte to say the truth had elapsed."Yes sir, but she said that she would only speak to you." The guard replied.Alarick stopped pacing. Had her spirit broken? Was she really going to tell him what he needed to know? He turned to the guard in mild excitement. Finally, this cat and mouse game he had been playing with her would pay off."Let's go."The guard opened the door for Alarick to walk through before doing the same himself. Alarick walked through the halls anxious and curious about what he might hear from Charlotte. About how she came up with the plan to destroy his family. About where Dylan and the rest of them could possibly be hiding. The door was opened for Alarick again when they reached Charlotte's room and he went in. The room was bare. Nothing decorated the

What just happened? That was the question that both Alarick and Charlotte asked themselves as the car in front of theirs went up in flames. The guard that drove the car that Alarick was in started to shout into his small microphone to the rest of his men that were still alive."Fall back. Fall back. It's an attack."The car behind them stayed at a stand still. It couldn't move due to the amount of people who ran helter-skelter on the street to get away from the commotion."Move back, damnit.""We can't, people are behind us. Hold on, I'll clear the crowd myself." One of the men in the back car replied. The man got out of the car and began to lead people away. He waved his hands in the direction of the shops that were far off from the main road."Come on. This way. Move, move."Alarick looked at Charlotte as the commotion continued. Was she the cause of this? This was obviously an attack on his convoy so was she involved? Charlotte's face held nothing but fear when Alarick peered clos

  • RISE OF THE DISCARDED SON-IN-LAW   HOSPITAL CALL

The constant and soft beeping of the machine roused Alarick from his deep slumber. The strong smell of chlorine from the cleaning agents that had been used to sterilise the room filled his nostrils and he gagged. For some reason, his sense of smell was stronger than usual. He tried to sit up and groaned as a sharp pain mostly from his torso, reverberated through his whole body and disoriented him. He was having a pounding headache so Alarick raised his hands to touch his head to try and reduce the pain by massaging his forehead but something pulled his hand back. The bright light blurred his vision as he opened his eyes to see what was holding him back so he blinked and squinted to allow his vision to adjust.A moment after his sight had adjusted to the brightness, he could see what held him back. Tubes ran down his hands and fed into the beeping and blinking machine beside him. His body, naked under the blue light material of the hospital gown he had on. Alarick put his hand on his

  • RISE OF THE DISCARDED SON-IN-LAW   HOSPITAL VISITOR

Alarick told Maurice and Allison all that had happened when he was attacked in the middle of the street when he regained his sense of calm after the call from Dylan. The two officers, after taking notes and recordings, left, promising to get a strong lead that could help find Dylan and Charlotte before the three day deadline. Alarick was left alone with only the beeping machine to keep him company. Now that he was alone, Alarick ran multiple scenarios of how the meeting between him and Dylan would go. How he would kill Dylan to avenge Grace or put the man behind bars after all this was done if they were able to get the man alive. He still wasn’t sure about Charlotte, Dylan said Charlotte had been framed for her father’s murder all this time, but it could just be another trick. If it wasn’t a trick then it meant that he had treated Charlotte unjustly all this time. "Alarick."Alarick snapped out of the trance he was in. He was so engrossed with the thought of Dylan's head on a platte

  • RISE OF THE DISCARDED SON-IN-LAW   VISIT TO THE STATION

Just like he wanted, Alarick was released from the hospital the next day. He flexed his arm a little as he came out of the hospital building feeling ready to tackle the day ahead of him. He breathed in as the wind blew his hair away from his face making him feel more free than he did a day ago. He really hated hospitals, it was better to recuperate in his own house. Two cars pulled up in front of Alarick and he got into one. One, his own car and the other a police car, both to take him to any destination he wanted. He had called his driver to come pick him up earlier and the extra police car was from Maurice for added protection just in case Dylan decided to move up his attack."Where to sir?" The driver asked."The station. Step on it."Alarick sat in silence clearing his mind as the cars took him from the hospital straight to the police station like he requested. Soon enough they arrived at the station without a hitch. Alarick got down from the car as it came to a stop and went into

  • RISE OF THE DISCARDED SON-IN-LAW   THE PLAZA

"Is everyone ready? Everything set up?"There was a resounding answer from the officers that filled the police station. Both officers and hired men were in attendance."Yes sir!"Most of them wore casual clothes compared to the handful that still had their uniforms on. It looked like a party was about to ensue in a station but they were there for other reasons. That was because everyone in the building apart from those still dressed in their uniforms like the new recruits and clerical staff, were leaving the building and going out to help Alarick. It was the day that Dylan had told him to come to the plaza. The day Alarick and the officers planned to finally arrest the maniac and his cohorts. The day they would triumph over evil.Alarick stood beside Maurice while the officer spoke. He was already carrying a gun, a dagger and wearing a kevlar vest for extra protection that he had hidden under his dress shirt. This time it would not be rubber bullets that would hit him. But the man got lost in the crowd. There were more people here than Alarick had expected but there was nothing he or his men could do but to wait and try and protect them if anything went wrong. They couldn’t chase them away and if they began evacuating, Dylan would be alerted that there were officers in the building disguised as civilians.Just as Alarick had given up on finding the man, there was an announcement over the public address system. Everyone, including Alarick, looked towards a small podium that had been erected in the middle of the complex where the voice was coming from. It was Dylan. He stood on top the podium and grinned at the crowd, his mask partially covering his eyes that held malice. A red velvet curtain obscuring the rest of the stage behind him.“I hope you are all enjoying looking around the stores, and the other attractions like games that we prepared specially for this reopening.”Thunderous positive shouts filled the room simultaneously as people clapped t

  • VICTORY AT LAST

The judge walked back into the courtroom and the room immediately turned quiet. She took her seat silently and looked at the jury. It wasn't a guess what the jury would pick. The massive amount of compelling evidence that was shown was more than enough to convince everyone in the room of who was innocent and who was guilty. She turned back to the crowd while hitting her gavel. "Court is now in session. I have to ask both sides. Does either the prosecution or the defense have anything else to say in this case?"Both sides of the court shook their heads, no one wanting to come forward and say another word. The judge turned to the jury."Has the jury come to a decision?"A man from the jury stood up."Yes we have, your honor.""Could you read it out for the court to hear?"The man opened the envelope in his hands and brought out the paper. He looked at it and read."In the case of Alarick King versus Grace King, the jury found the defendant, Grace King, guilty of defamation."The crowd i

  • HIDDEN MOTIVE

It had been a day since the fire incident at the King mansion. Luckily they had all made it out alive and unscathed apart from the man on Alarick's security detail that was shot, Henry. They had disposed of the dead bodies of the attackers and had rounded up the culprits who were caught. It took them some time to get rid of or repair the damage that was done that night but they pushed on especially when they knew they finally had their smoking gun. The thing that would end Grace. The day of the long awaited court hearing had arrived. Alarick sat beside Charlotte and they both sat some distance away from Grace and her new lawyer. Grace eyed them both still angry at the fact that they had survived the fire. The tables were turned. Now they were the prosecution and Grace was the defense. She was going to be the one to fend off their attacks and just like the night she sent men to get rid of Alarick, she would lose. The tension in the air was palpable and with the agreement of both parti

  • ATTACKERS

The group stayed glued to the floor for some seconds when some of Alarick's security detail barged into the room armed to the teeth and lifted them up from the ground. Alarick, who had landed on Charlotte to shield her from whatever was going on, got up and looked away, avoiding the gaze that Charlotte gave him when she stood upright. Scarlett noticed the exchange and bit her lip till she drew blood. She said nothing though, not wanting to incite a fight when they still weren't sure of what was happening. The guards immediately turned around and pointed their weapons at the door as if expecting for assailants to come running in guns blazing. One of the security men shouted over the deafening noise of gunshots coming from outside."Mr Alarick, are you okay?"Alarick gave the guy a nod before the man who was seemingly the head of the security team turned over and asked the same questions to the women in the group."What about you ladies? Is anyone hurt by any chance?"Charlotte, Scarlet

  • EXPLOSION

Five days had gone by and there hadn't been a peep from either Grace or the company on the business scene. It had been unusually quiet and Alarick didn't like it. He paced in his study as the sun set with Charlotte watching him while she arranged the papers on the desk. They had finished creating and compiling evidence in their argument for the court hearing that was going to take place in the next two days. All they had to do now was wait. Alarick ran his hands through his hair frustrated. Charlotte knew the feeling all too well. It's not like anything bad had happened but they wanted it to. They needed it for their plan to fully be realized. A few days ago Alarick and Charlotte had come upon a video of Grace commanding someone on the phone to burn Alarick's house down so that he and Charlotte would die in the fire and not be able to make the court date allowing her to legally take the company as her own. Alarick had already put in contingency plans for her attack but him dying and

  • NEW EVIDENCE

It had taken two grueling days for Charlotte to draw up a defamation lawsuit to give to the court and incidentally the court date was set to take place in a week. On the same day as Alarick's real birthday, the day he was actually born before he was stolen from the King family, not the day he thought was his birthday, given by whoever had found him. But even though that was the case Alarick wasn't enthusiastic about it.Alarick and Charlotte sat in the study and like most times went through some documents that could further increase their chances of winning the case. They had gotten over their little misunderstanding that day in front of the courthouse and planned to just win it all and then move on. As they worked in silence, Alarick's phone rang. He looked for his phone as it continued to ring out amidst the vast amount of documents that covered the desk at the time. In another second or two he found it and checked the caller ID. It was one of the members of the board. Jameson Clay

  • STILL NOT FORGIVEN

Alarick and Charlotte walked out of the courtroom together. The reporters rushed towards them as the duo stepped out, and they were also swamped by the crowd that gathered outside the building. Alarick's guards did their best to keep the crowd away from the both of them and they succeeded in that, but they weren't successful in quickly taking them through the crowd and to their car because the bystanders were just too much. The light flashing from the several cameras partially blinded them as they tried to leave the premises through the steps but when they found it impossible to, they decided to stay back and answer the questions of the masses so they would be allowed to pass through. Alarick spoke to his men and told them that he wanted to stay a bit and speak to the crowd and the guards relented, opting to just shield him rather than try to break through the impenetrable wall of the people who wanted answers. Just as the group had stopped their descent, the questions came flying."M

  • A WIN IS A WIN

Everyone that was in the courtroom before the break was called back in as the court was about to be in session. They all took their seats anxious for what was to come next. Some bit their nails and some sucked in a breath, nervous. This was the time that the verdict would be given. Would the prosecution win or the defense win? What would happen if the verdict didn't go the defense's way? What would happen to the company that so many people respected in the business world, not to talk of the King family if the allegations were indeed true and they were involved in shady business? All these were questions that the crowd in the court had. Everyone including the prosecution and the defense. Alarick and Charlotte took their seat as they shared glares with Grace and her lawyer. The tension in the air was palpable. A knife could cut it in half. They were all on their toes. The jury had to decide on this case and all they could do was hope that the verdict went their way.The door opened up

  • COURT CASE II

“I won’t waste any more time by going through the process of how the evidence was found. Instead, I’ll show everyone the proof and allow them to make a decision for themselves. This is exhibit A.” The lawyer for the prosecution took a file from off his desk and showed it to the whole room. He brought out a copy and gave one to the judge and then another to the jury to peruse. He crossed his fingers and gave it some time before he continued. “In the file that you were given you will find the dealings between the King Corporation and a well-known notorious cartel headed by Lorelie Mandan. This was for the shipment of a large number of guns and possibly explosives to an undisclosed location somewhere in the Mexican desert. The drop off was made by the company and the cartel picked it up. If you still have doubts then I would like to call a witness to the stand.” The lawyer turned to the judge and he gave his go ahead for the witness to be called out to the stand. “I call Matteo Sanch

  • COURT CASE I

Just as Alarick had predicted there was a huge trial that was going to be held due to what Grace had released to the press. It had only been a day after her false announcement when he had gotten a letter saying that he had to be in court for a hearing concerning his company’s activities. Surprisingly, Charlotte was ready for the hearing. The zeal to crush Grace at her own game had pushed her even more to provide everything that they needed or might need when the court case held. Alarick had also prepared until he was ready to face Grace again and confront her.The day of the court hearing came and the buzz of how the day might end filled the television stations, news outlets, media rooms and even gossip mills with so much anticipation that the hearing was allowed to televise live due to the pressure that was put on the courthouse. The press had used the excuse of trying to educate the masses to get the exclusive content but everyone knew the truth. Everyone knew that no matter what ha
