"I don't need your answers, Cobb. I know perfectly well what you're going to tell me. So I don't need to hear it from you."

Hearing Meggie's overconfident and self-centred statement, Aland finally got up with a nod. His hands were busy wiping his eyes, that were wet with disappointment. Both of his shoulders were gently squared as he passed Meggie, who looked away.

"Then you'll have to excuse me, Mrs Osborne. May you have all the dreams you want. Give my regards to Anne. Goodbye."

Without turning round, Meggie massaged her head lightly. She reached for her phone to confirm the whereabouts of Aland, who had not arrived. She dialled the number Pete had given her, hopefully.

But Meggie paused when she heard the sound of a phone not far from her. She turned her head slowly, checking to see who was around her, who was alone, and wearing fancy clothes. Unfortunately, she couldn't find anyone. Except for Tom, who is retreating.
