Jill threw the wineglass in her hand quickly at Arthur. Her eyes were red with resentment when she heard the news that Tom had survived and Brown hadn't done his job properly.

"Is there no one else I can count on?"

Arthur jumped backwards to get out of the way. His breath caught in his throat as he recalled the stakes that hadn't yet been raised by Jill, who was beginning to lose her mind.

"The police aren't continuing their investigation because there's firm evidence from the hidden cameras that Tom stabbed Lark in self-defence, Mrs Reynolds."

Jill gave Arthur a sharp glance. She approached Arthur with wide strides. "I don't care and I don't want to know anything about it, Arthur! At least, if Brown dies, he won't be able to blackmail us! He won't make us go down with him."
