CHAPTER FIVE

Kevin helped lift Lily onto the back of his motorbike. Lily wrapped her arms around Kevin’s waist as he thought to himself,

“I love this feeling. From this moment forward, I’m going to start steaming our relationship. I’m going to be the man who Lily wants me to be, the man that she deserves.”

Stopping at the red light, Kevin turned around to find Lily biting her bottom lip.

With a gentle sigh, Kevin asked

“How are you feeling? You look great but I know you… you only bite your bottom lip when you’re stressed.”

Lily nodded,

”I am a little bit stressed… I checked the reports this morning and I confirmed my worst nightmare. The company isn’t going to get any extra investor’s support which means that by the end of the week, we’re going to officially declare bankruptcy. This morning, the major shareholders will be holding a meeting and as the company’s chairman, I have to be there. To be honest, I just feel so terrible about the poor employees that will be loosing their jobs… I mean, it’s all my fault.”

Kevin tried to comfort his wife,

“You aren’t the one who made the mistakes that caused this, Lily.”

Lily nodded,

“I know… but as the chairman and the boss, it is my responsibility to hold myself accountable for everything that happens with the company.”

Lily stopped herself,

“The light turned green already, would you mind stepping on it? I’m already so late.”

Kevin nodded and stepped forward.

Minutes later, they arrived at the company’s entrance just in time. Lily smiled as she let go of Kevin’s waist,

“Thank you. I can’t believe how fast you got me here. Maybe I should have allowed you bring me here more often.”

Just as Kevin was about to respond, he was interrupted but the sound of a car parking next to them.

Turning to their right, both Kevin and Lily saw a brand new VMWY 8 pull up beside Kevin’s old motorbike. The door opened and a tall man in a tailored suit stepped out of the car,

“Hi Blakely.”

Lily politely smiled and ignoring Kevin’s presence, Blakely stepped forward and hugged Lily.

“Good morning Lil. It’s so good to see you!”

Blakely said and turned to Kevin, laughing

“Lily, did you order the world’s crappiest UBER or what? If you needed a ride, I could have driven you. That motorbike is pathetic, no offense.

Kevin forced a smile,

“I’m not her UBER driver… I’m actually her husband.”

Seeing Blakely’s shocked face, Kevin smirked as he reached his hand forward.

“I’m Kevin. It’s nice to meet you.”

Reaching his manicured hands towards Kevin’s, Blakely replied

“So this is the famous Kelvin… I’ve heard so much about you. I’m sure you know Monica, Lily’s best friend… she does the best impression of you. It’s so nice to put a face to your, ehrm… name and Kev, you are exactly what I expected.”

Lily uncomfortably shook her head,

“Blakely, that’s out of line.”

Blakely scoffed,

“Of course… I was just messing with him. You can take a joke or can’t you, Kevin?”

Kevin nodded,

“I can when they are funny.”

Blakely smirked,

“Ha! I see… Lily I’m so glad that I bumped into you this morning. I’ve heard about everything going on and my heart aches for you. So, I brought you a little pick me up.”

Blakely went back to his car and opened the trunk. He took out a stunning gift box.

With a sweet smile, Blakely handed the box to Lily.

“Take a look Lily, do you like it?”

Lily opened the box and gasped,

“Oh my goodness! This is the most beautiful necklace I’ve ever seen. Blakely, you shouldn’t have… this is too extravagant!”

Blakely smiled,

“I knew you would like it.”

Feeling his chest tighten, Kevin thought to himself

“I am going to help save Lily’s company. But first of, I need to handle this Blakely, I’m sure he is up to no good and it’s my job to stop him.”

Kevin snapped out of his thoughts as Blakely’s voice broke through,

“A beautiful woman like you deserves a beautiful necklace. Isn’t that right Kevin?”

Blakely smirked.

Kevin leaned forward and pursed his lips as he saw the necklace he gifted his wife, Lily.

The entire necklace was laced with countless dancing crystals, the diamonds were expertly set in a delicate, intricate design that seemed to capture the essence of a cascading waterfall of light.

Kevin couldn’t help but to stare at the huge diamond that was placed in the center of the necklace with the initials, DLN.

“It’s the Dream lover necklace!”

Kevin whispered to himself

Blakely, appearing attentive to Kevin’s hushed words, inquired,

“What was that?”

Blakely asked.

Kevin nodded and said,

“It’s impossible. There’s no way that necklace is real. The Dream lover necklace was made by the famous French Jewelry designer, Dianne. It was made up of more than three hundred carats of diamonds and there are only ten versions of it in the world. It’s definitely a knock-off.”

Kevin said proudly.

“Well, it’s not a knock off. It’s a top of the line copy of it. Lily, I remembered how much you loved the Dream lover necklace and since it’s impossible to buy a real one, I spent a hundred thousand dollars to have a jeweler create the exact copy for you and if you give me some more time, I will one day find the real Dream lover for you.”

Lily closed the gift bag and said with a somewhat regretful expression,

“It’s normal that you can’t buy it. After all, there are only ten real versions of it in the world. Two years ago I heard that in an auction, Dream lover’s necklace was sold out for four million dollars. So, you don’t have to worry about finding me the real one. Plus, this is a really good copy, I love it.”

When he heard Lily’s words, Blakely paused and thought to himself.

“Four million!? My entire net worth was only around three million. There is no way I’d ever be able to buy it for her.”

Putting off a weak smile, Blakely replied

“Sounds like this Dream lover is very popular.”

Kevin stepped forward,

“Babe, why don’t you bring the necklace so I can help you drop it home? After all, I am your HUSBAND.

Kevin made sure to emphasize on the husband showing a displeased look on his handsome face.
