What? Miss Winkle is in the VIP room? How did she get there?

I was too startled by what the doctor had just said to say anything. I knew that I couldn’t have possibly been able to afford a VIP wardroom.

“I’m sorry, Sir, I had no idea Mrs Winkle was in the VIP room,” the sound of the nurse crying jolted me out of the thoughts I was lost in.

Tears were streaming down her cheeks and she fell to her knees in front of the doctor who had just fired her. She genuinely looked like she regretted all the things she said to me.

I felt pity for her but she hadn’t just humiliated me today, she does that everytime I come to the hospital, she takes the chance because I’m poor and she says horrible things to me.

“I’ve been on my day off for the past three days and didn’t know when Mrs Winkle was moved.” The nurse cried ceaselessly as she quickly turned to face me when the man ignored her.

Her lips formed a thin line, her eyes were red and more tears streamed down her cheeks and even though she tried to keep her tears at bay, it wouldn’t stop falling.

“Mr. Smith, I’m sorry. I swear I’m really sorry,” her tears choked her voice and she hiccuped as she tried to hold me but I took a step away from her.

“You can ignore her, Sir, let me show you to the VIP ward.” The doctor said but the nurse grabbed my feet before I could take any step away from her.

“I can’t be fired! Don’t let him fire me, please, Mr. Smith, I promise I’m going to be on my best behavior, just give me one more chance.” She begged.

Her desperation was evident in her voice and I could feel my heart melting. I know what it feels like to be fired from a job but what I know the most is the taste of humiliation.

This nurse has always been nothing but mean to me and Mrs. Winkle, she treated us like we weren’t human and took every opportunity to insult us.

My stomach curled and I felt bad for her because she had to quit her job forcibly but she deserved it and hopefully this would teach her a lesson.

“There’s nothing I can do,” I sighed as I said to her, “you’ve always been horrible to me and that poor woman.” I added, referring to Mrs. Winkle.

“This is your own karma, what goes around comes back around, nurse, you shouldn’t abuse your power just because you’re the one in charge.” I finished.

Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped, she looked like she wanted to say something but she changed her mind and pressed her lips into a thin line.

Her face fell as her hand slid off my legs and she looked up at me helplessly but just like the doctor had ignored her, I had no other choice but to ignore her too.

Everything about this current situation baffled me, it was surprising but what bothered me the most was the fact that this doctor had the power to fire a nurse.

“But why did you—”

“I’m the director of this hospital.” He answered with a bright smile before I could finish asking my question and my jaw dropped.

Shock gripped me, a lot seemed to be happening and I couldn’t wrap my head around any of it at all.

Ever since I’ve been coming here to visit Mrs. Winkle, I have never bumped into this man before and his answer explained a lot.

He’s not just a doctor, he’s also the director.

“Let’s go and see Mrs. Winkle now, shall we?” He asked with my smile, pulling me out of the shock that was rocking me and I had no idea what to say but nod.

Silently and obediently, I followed him to the VIP ward and there Mrs Winkle was, she looked better than ever.

“Zade! You’re here!” She said happily as soon as she saw me, her eyes glistened with happiness and a huge smile spread across her lips as she opened her arms wide for me.

“I’m here and you look really strong, Mrs. Winkle.” I said happily as I hugged her. She sighed as she patted my back and after a while, I pulled away from her.

I had a lot of questions to ask, I wanted to know why she was moved out of the regular ward and into the VIP ward.

“Thanks to you, Hunnie, I feel better now.” Mrs. Winkle smiled at me and my brows quickly drew together in confusion.

What does she mean thanks to me?

Her statement was unclear to me as I stared at her, a little disoriented and confused before finally asking the question that I’ve been meaning to ask.

“What do you mean?” I asked, my confusion evident in my voice and my heart pounding almost as if I wasn’t prepared to hear whatever she wanted to say next.

“Did something happen?” I added and it was now Mrs. Winkle’s turn to look confused, her eyes widened a little as she blinked at me.

“You don’t know?” She answered my question with another question of hers and I nodded affirmatively.

I had no idea what was going on, it was like I was in a movie and the director was trying to play some sort of trick on me.

“Your sisters came to me,” she added and I felt my heart plummet to my stomach as I stared at her in disbelief, “they are all so gorgeous, they looked like models and they said they are your sisters.” Mrs. Winkle paused.

It can’t be. There’s no way this happened.

“They thanked me for taking care of you all those years and helped me move into the VIP ward, they even gave me several servants and asked the doctor to always attend to me.” She explained.

I couldn’t believe it. I’ve always been an orphan and I had no family so there’s no way some ladies would show up and claim to be my sisters when I haven’t even met them.

“But—” the sound of the door opening caused me to swallow everything that I’d intended to say and an old gentleman walked in.

Intense astonishment touched his pale face as he walked closer to me, surprise and amazement was written boldly all over his face as a big smile appeared on his lips.

“Here you are, honorable young master!”
