Ethan had tried severally to assure Loretta that such things weren't cast in stone and they could easily be changed but Loretta wouldn't hear any of it.

“Don't you know who my father is? He is as stubborn as a mule,” had been her response to him when he told her that.

Ethan stroked the tender curls of her hair.

'She looks so beautiful when she sleeps,’ he whispered to himself.

A shame her family would rather give her to someone like Nash than him.

Ethan was no fool. From the brief conversation he had with Sarah, he knew he had something to do with the decision by Loretta's father to marry her off to Nash Barrington.

“And it's all thanks to that damn woman,” Ethan whispered, furrowing his brows.

He had been too lenient…too compassionate…too forgiving with Sarah and it was because he always thought about Loretta whenever the thought of putting her in her rightful place came to his mind. But now that she had dared to make Loretta cry, he was no longer going to be so forgiving.
