As Ethan drove, he thought about Samantha and what she had said to him. A bad feeling crept within him.
“I looked up the plate number of those hooligans that tried to rob us.” Loretta announced.
“It turned out nothing. The vehicle was stolen some minutes before they stopped us.”
Ethan wasn't too surprised to hear how fast Loretta had found out about the stolen vehicle. She was not just beautiful and smart but she was also a sophisticated tech genius. It was no wonder the red dragons tried to kidnap her a while ago.
Ethan furrowed his brows, “They sound like pros. Can you try pulling surveillance footage from the street?”
“Alright, I'll handle it.” She affirmed.
Loretta’s eyes suddenly fell on Ethan's lottery ticket, “Don't tell me you believe in this game of…..” She stopped before completing her statement as she caught sight of the amount he had staked on the ticket.
Loretta looked at Ethan with shock written all over her face, “You spent five million dollars on it? Wait, wasn't it the money my grandfather gave to you just the other day?” She asked.
Loretta wasn't one to pry into the affairs of others but ever since her father almost lost everything they had to a gambling problem some years back, she disliked even the faintest idea of making money by sheer luck. It was all thanks to Ian's wisdom that they were able to recover and even surpass their previous financial status, making them a first class wealthy family.
Ethan smiled calmly. He knew she was only being concerned as he had observed her personality carefully since he got to know her. He didn't need to take her concern too seriously though since he already knew the outcome of the lottery.
“I am good with numbers, it was part of my training as a business analyst, I thought I told you this already.” He said reassuringly.
“You will be surprised how far one can go with a little faith.” He added with a grin.
Loretta decided to let it go.
Suddenly an idea came to her mind.
“We should do some shopping, you know, your ex-wife should see you in a different light.” Without waiting for his response, she handed him a customized platinum debit card.
“This is yours. I had it made for you. You can use it for your shopping.”
Ethan was speechless.
She was caring and considerate, going out of her way to do things that she didn't have to.
“Thank you Loretta. You are one in a million, “ he gave her hand a gentle squeeze as he said so.
She shrugged, “Use it wisely.”
Ethan tilted his head back in laughter, he knew she was referring to his lottery ticket.
They soon approached Mela outfits, it was one of the biggest clothing stores in Cedarwood.
On entering, Ethan and Loretta walked around the store for a few seconds, with Ethan admiring the exquisite outfits that were on display.
A particular outfit caught his attention as he and Loretta stood right in front of it. It was an expensive looking Armani collection that was shielded by an extra layer of transparent glass. From the look of it, it was the most expensive outfit in the store.
Ethan sneered as he looked at the outfit.
A well dressed lady suddenly approached them. She had been observing Ethan since he walked in but because he looked poorly dressed, she had ignored him until she spotted her supervisor at the far end of the store. Besides he was standing in front of the most expensive Armani collection that was said to be crafted personally by Armani himself.
It was said that there were only 10 pieces of that collection in the world.
“Are you here to buy anything or to just look around, she asked rudely.”
To her, such a poor looking fellow had no business being in such a store in the first place and yet he wasn't only wasting her time, but he was also standing in front of their most prized collection with a funny expression on his face.
As Ethan was about to respond, he heard a voice that sounded familiar, “Isn't that Ethan Banks!”
Ethan turned around, the expression on his face showing he wasn't too pleased.
“Baby this is the poor boy I told you about from my school days,” Joshua Kane said sneering.
“Oh, the one who used to wash your clothes for money,” Lisa, his girlfriend responded derisively.
Joshua sneered, “Yes, I wonder what he is doing here!”
In Joshua's heart he envied Ethan for having such a beautiful woman like Loretta by his side despite his appearance, even Lisa paled in comparison to her.
Joshua had always made fun of Ethan in college, taunting him at every opportunity in front of others, so Ethan was understandably pissed to see him.
“Hey, are you guys running a charity event here today or something,” he asked the sales rep laughing.
Several other customers in the store began making mocking comments about Ethan.
“How can he walk in here looking that way. He must really have guts.”
“Some people are so shameless and he even brought a really beautiful woman.”
“If I were that woman, I would have dumped him already!”
“Who does he think he is to walk in here and stare at such a priceless collection with such disdainful look.”
They all made nasty comments while staring at Ethan.
Ethan smiled calmly, “You have nothing here to offer me, even your most expensive outfit is a fake.”
His comment was like a bombshell, throwing off everyone in the store momentarily.
Even Loretta was stunned at his comment. She had bought most of her outfits in this store as it was one of the biggest clothing stores in all of Cedarwood.
The sales rep quickly responded, “What! Everyone in Cedarwood knows we deal with only authentic outfits. I can see you are too poor to buy anything, so you decided to make up silly excuses just to leave.”
Everyone in the store couldn't help sneering at Ethan. Mela outfits was under the control of lord Howard, of the Jackson's family. The Jackson's family have been in the fashion business for decades and as such are known for having only authentic clothing collections.
Their most expensive collection, the Armani collection, is said to be worth 10 million dollars and all the wealthy families have been trying to get their hands on it.
Infact lord Howard was planning on having it auctioned in a few days to the highest bidder.
Even Loretta found Ethan’s reaction surprising. Although, she didn't say, she thought Ethan was going too far. Afterall there were other ways to put folks like this in their place.
Joshua laughed mockingly, “What does a poor-good-for-nothing know about an expensive designer collection! Even if you worked day and night for three lifetimes, you still won't be able to afford it, so stop with the pretense!”
Meanwhile Ethan's comment had caught the attention of the manager.
The manager was taken aback by such a strong statement from such an ordinary looking man.Not wanting to jump into any conclusions, he approached Ethan carefully, “Such a strong statement should be backed up by proof, young man! Can I know who you are?”On hearing this, Joshua blurted out, “He’s a nobody. He’s the divorced live-in-son-in-law of the Gray's family. I even heard he recently got out of jail.”There were mocking comments from other customers in the store at that point.“So he was the useless son-in-law of the Gray’s family. He must have really been a burden to them.”“How did he get out of jail so quickly? Such a fellow should never have been let out in the first place!”Ethan ignored the comments as he responded to the manager’s question, “He is right, I'm not anyone important.”The manager furrowed his brows. Initially, he felt Ethan was someone important who was an expert in authentic fabrics but now it turns out that he was just a nobody that had just recently been fre
As Ethan read the message, he furrowed his brows. It was a message from Carmelo telling him that his time was up.Though Ethan had never met the landlord in person, his nephew, Carmelo, had always terrorized him and his mother for money as he deemed fit, simply because they were poor and his uncle was King Fisher, a well known crime boss.Ethan had always paid the money promptly in the past to prevent Carmelo harassing his foster mother but had been unable to while in prison, making the sum of money that Carmelo was now demanding for to be enormous.Ethan got into the car, ignoring his thoughts about Carmelo briefly.“Why didn't you tell me?” Loretta suddenly asked.Ethan turned to her curiously, “Tell you what?”“That you went to jail. Why did you keep it from me?”Ethan had been expecting this question since Joshua announced it in Mela outfits.“I didn't want you or your family to judge me because of my past.” He answered sincerely.“And why did you go to jail?” She pressed further.
“And where do you think you are going to? You can't leave until we figure out where you got the money to purchase such an expensive outfit.” Andrew's response angered Ethan even more.“You have four seconds to get out of my way!” Ethan's voice thundered.Ethan's bold response shocked Andrew momentarily. In the past, Ethan would always cower at his presence but his demeanor now was the direct opposite, a behavior that somewhat terrified Andrew. But not wanting to back down in front of his entire family, he pushed away the doubts within him and continued with his condescending behavior.Andrew laughed scornfully, in a final attempt to convince himself that he was in charge of the situation. He was used to beating Ethan for no reason in the past and he had been looking forward to doing it again especially now that Ethan came with a really gorgeous woman.“If I show her what a wimp he is maybe she would consider leaving him for me,” he thought secretly in his heart.“Or wha…” Before Andre
Ethan's response came out with such force that it sent shivers to Carmelo and his men.Carmelo signaled to one of his men and he left only to return in seconds with iron clubs as they surrounded Ethan, each one of them smiling deviously.Loretta was frightened for Ethan. She quickly stood between Ethan and Carmelo, “Why don't you just take the car and we'll leave. No one has to get hurt.”Carmelo smirked, “Negotiations are over. You had your chance.”Signaling to one of his men, he screamed, “Bring her to me.”But before he could even touch Loretta Ethan sent him flying with only a jab to the abdomen.Carmelo was stunned, swallowing hard he signaled to the rest of his men so they attack him at once.Ethan swiftly moved Loretta away as he dodged the metal clubs while raining heavy punches on each of them. Painful screams could be heard from miles away as they all landed on the floor with broken bones and ribs.Carmelo in so much pain, could only speak above a whisper, “You have no idea
Inside Lopez conglomerate, Julian was already in a celebration mood. He popped a bottle of expensive champagne and took a sip before setting the glass back on the table and stepping out into the lobby. “Two for the price of one,” he whispered with raised brows. Everyone was still in shock at the explosion they had all heard a few minutes ago when Julian showed up. He cleared his throat as he began, “My fellow compatriots, the news I'm about to give you will indeed sadden you but you must all take heart. I just learned that the Vice President and the head of operations of our great company were involved in a car explosion and they are no more.” On hearing what Julian had just said, everyone immediately went into a frenzy. Suddenly, the doors swung open with Ethan and Loretta walking in. “Clap…Clap….Clap” Ethan began to clap for him. Shock and fear were etched on Julian’s face as he saw the duo alive and well. “How did you guys survive. No, it's impossible!” All the staff mem
Ethan's Cedarwood Heritage Bank account had received several huge deposits, causing the bank to temporarily freeze his account, requesting his presence.Very early the next morning Ethan and Loretta entered the main hall of Cedarwood Heritage Bank.Several customers filled the banking hall, as Ethan and Loretta made their way to the counter where a petite-looking female was seated.“Hello, please I'm here to find out why my account was blocked.”“It must probably be because it's empty.”She snapped as she momentarily looked up from her computer screen with a disdainful expression on her face.“I wonder why it wasn't even closed. It's such a waste of resources keeping empty accounts for poor customers.”Ethan stared at her, his exterior as calm as ever. He had left his villa in a hurry without putting on any of his expensive outfits, so he wasn't too surprised at the lady's judgemental behavior. At that same instant, a male banker walked up to the counter to talk to the petite lady but
The manager's son was shocked as he and the petite lady knelt before Ethan in tears. At that same instant, the manager walked into the banking hall. “What's going on? Son, why are you kneeling down?” “Your son just got you a new position in the bank.” The manager’s face was swollen with pride as he began to speak, beaming with joy. “Thank you, Sir, we promise to continue to give our…” “You are now the new Cashier and Laila is the new manager. Michael Rivers interrupted him. The manager's face went cold, What! Son, what did you do? What's going on? What stupid thing have you done this time?” But Harris kept begging Ethan. Laila immediately jumped for joy. She was on the verge of being kicked out of the bank but now she is the new manager. “You should all thank Ethan here for the promotion.” Michael Rivers chipped in with a smile. Laila’s joy knew no bounds as she kept thanking Ethan. Ethan briefly acknowledged Laila's thanks as he walked out with Loretta. Loretta
But before they could take a step towards him, he reached for a surgical blade lying on a nearby tray and flipped it expertly as it grazed the leader of the security men on the cheek before plunging into a door frame.“The next one would take your head off!”The leader instantly froze, not daring to take another step. The terrifying look on Ethan's face was enough to convince him that he meant every word.“Now we were talking about an autopsy.” He said, turning to Dr Zachary.Dr Zachary swallowed hard before speaking as it was obvious his security men could not save him Ethan.“We conduct autopsies by default when certain patients die under certain conditions, to assure the public that we do our best to save all our patients and your mother met all the conditions, so we already carried out an autopsy on her. The results are available. I can get them for you.”Ethan sneered at his response. “You do your best to save all your patients and yet you allowed my mother to die because she had
