Chapter 4: Surprise

Elvira's POV,

A felt the sunlight touched my face which made me jolt out the bed. I sighed heavily and looked around the place. The first question went in my head is, where the hell I am?

I'm sure this is not my room. My room isn't that pretty compare to this one. But wait....why am I still alive? I thought I was done for. Swallowing a lump, I looked on my skin to check if there's any bruises, but I didn't see any.

"What happened to me?" I asked myself, walking in front of the mirror to check my head. However, my scar on it dissapeared too.

"Am I imagining things?" I wondered as my eyes went on my clothes. I'm not wearing my uniform anymore, instead I'm wearing a white comfortable dress.

"What the? Did someone changed me?" I looked inside my clothes to check if I'm still wearing my lingerie, fortunately, I'm still wearing it.

A sudden sound of opening door stole my attention. A woman with blonde hair and mint eyes went inside, holding a tray of food. Wait that woman.....that woman is the reaper I saw with Mr. Reaper before.

"Are you okay now? Boss told me to give your breakfast, so here you go," she muttered, placing the tray onto the table near the balcony.

I just stared at her and the food and didn't even utter a word. She must noticed that because she looked at me and smiled.

"We've met before right? I'm Michelle, boss Drevox company," she introduced sincerely. "You can eat these foods, don't worry isn't poisonous."

"Can you tell me about what happened? I'm supposed to be dead right? Or am I really dead since I'm with a reaper?" I asked, fidgeting my fingers.

"You're supposed to be dead, yes that's true. However, boss Drevox saved you from dying by making you your company," she explained, walking closer to me.

"Making me a company? What does company mean? Is it a business?" I asked confusedly, furrowing my eyebrows.

She chuckled, shaking her head. "No, it's not. Company or companies are reapers assistants. In other words, we're assitant reapers."

"Eh?!" I shouted surprisingly. "D-does that mean I-I am reaper now?" I pointed to myself.

"That's right. But it's only temporary. Boss will decide when will you stop being a reaper and return to your old life," she shared, crossing her arms.

From this distance, I could tell that she's 3 inches taller than me.

"Temporary? Why?" I questioned, walking closer to the foods to check what is it.

"Since you were unconcious, the agreement paper didn't get your swear of oath which is the most important one to be a regular company," she answered, spinning on her heel to face me.

"And what was that paper?" I inquired, seeing rice with bacons, hotdog and egg.

"Just like what I said, that paper is an agreement between boss and companies. You need to give your swear of oath and a fingerprint, but you only gave your fingerprint since you were unconcious," she explained again, walking closer to me again. "You can eat now if you're hungry."

"T-thank you. And does that mean I need to stick around with y'all starting now?" I asked, taking my seat on the metallic white painted chair.

"Yes. Boss also told me to assist you with your future training. You need to know how to fight and defend those spirits or souls," she answered, nodding.

"I see. And also thank you for saving my life," I answered, holding the spoon and fork.

"You should thank boss Drevox instead of me. By the way, I didn't get your name. So what's your name?" she asked, flashing a genuine smile.

"My name? I am Elvira Stone," I replied and started eating the food. "And how can I thank that boss Drevox of yours?"

"He's our boss, not just my boss." She chuckled. "You can talk to him later after his personal training with his older brother."

"He has a brother?" I asked, munching the food.

"Yes, he has. Actually they're 4 brothers, but he's not close anymore to those two," she answered, nodding.

"Why?" I asked nosily. These foods are honestly good.

"I don't know but perhaps it was because of the accident happened a long ago." She shrugged, scratching her nape. "And I don't want to tell it to you. However, if you really want to know you can ask boss Drevox."

"I see." I nodded.

"But it's better not to ask him about that, since it's very private matter of their lives," she whispered on my ear, making nod.

I should stick out my nose to that matter. Also I have plenty of things I need to know first. Like how can I fight those wraiths? How can I have a scythe? Are they going to buy me scythe or do I need to make my own?

Oh wait. Why am I accepting that I am a reaper now? What about my work? My studies? My friend? Can't I be able to come back?

"Is there something wrong, Elvira?" she asked worriedly, tilting her head sideways.

"N-no, it's nothing." I shook my head, laughing forcefully.

"Were you worried about your past life?" she inquired, sitting on the side of the bed.

"Eh?" How did she know that? Can she read my mind?

"If you're wondering how did I know that, it's all written all over your face." She chuckled, pointing at my face. "And don't worry you can still continue your old life, but you need now to stay here in our mansion since you have your own job now. And that is helping the souls."

"Really? I can be able to continue my studies and meet my friend?" I asked happily, curving a smile.

"Yes, I'm sure you can. However, boss is still the one who will decide," she explained, making me nod. She stood from the bed, striding to the door. "After eating your breakfast, go outside. I'll accompany you to boss."

"O-okay. How about these?" I pointed the utensils.

"Just leave it there after eating. Jay will arrange it for you," she replied, winking. She then opened the door and went outside.

Who is Jay? Is he Drevox's company too? Well, when I think about it, Mr. Reaper has a beautiful and unique name. Drevox huh.

When I was finished eating my breakfast. I went in front of the glass window, staring outside the mansion. All I could see are trees and wide open field of grass. I tried to look for other houses, but I didn't find any. So this mansion is in center of the forest huh?

"Oh yeah I need to go outside," I whispered, striding to the door. I hold the doorknob and slowly turn it.

"Hey Elvira! I've been waiting," Michelle explained, removing her arms on the man's nape.

"Ah yeah...I just finished my breakfast," I uttered, closing the door behind me.

I roam my eyes around, seeing gray set of sofa, flat screen tv and a chandelier above. I saw another persons sitting on the sofa. They're probably watching but now, they're looking at me.

"Come on, Elvira! I'll show you to boss." She cling her arms around mine. "And Jay arrange the utensils inside!" she commanded before pulling me upstairs.

I glanced at the man she was with. So it was Jay. He's wearing a black coat and pajama and his messy hair suits him well.

We arrived in front of a brown door as she removed her arm from me. She walks closer, knocking on the door.

She the hold the doorknob and turned it open. "Boss I brought Elvira to you." She looked at me, motioning me to go inside, which I did.

Michelle closed the door behind me as I walked closer to his table. He looked at me and put down his eyeglasses on the table.

"Sit down," he commanded coldly, pointing at the chair beside me.

How cold. I took my seat, placing my hands on my lap.

"So how are you feeling?" he asked, crossing his arms.

"I'm fine now. But can you tell me how did my wounds dissapear?" I questioned, looking hopefully at him.

"That's because you've been reborn as a reaper though you're not yet immortal like us since you didn't swear an oath," he replied, scratching the bridge of his nose.

I might be lying if I say he's not attractive. Boss Drevox has a pointed nose, white skin, attractive jawline, glistening red eyes and kissable lips. He's indeed perfect. Just like the characters I've read on novels.

"I see. So if I swear my oath now, I can be a complete reaper right? Then let's do it," I uttered in determination.

"No, not yet. I still need to check if you're suitable to be a reaper if not, then I'll toss you back to your old life," he muttered, dropping his arms on the table. "Anyway, I'm glad you're fine. Michelle will help you too with your training starting tomorrow."

"So I need to prove myself first to you right?" I clarified, entwining my hands.

"Indeed." He nodded.

"I have a question, can I be able to continue my studies and meet with my friend?" I questioned, biting my lower lip.

He looked at me seriously, making me nervous. He is indeed intimidating.

"Yes, you can. But you're not allowed to tell your friend about us and about what happened to you," he expressed seriously, pointing at myself.

I nodded vehemently. "O-okay. Then I'll go to my house now. I need to check it first."

"Sure, ask Michelle to accompany you there," he mumbled, wearing his eyeglasses.

"No, boss. I can take care of myself." I shook my head.

"That's an order, Elvira. You need to follow me," he explained, glancing at my white dress. "It suits you."

"Okay." I nodded. And speaking about this dress, who changed me into this?

"Michelle changed you into her dress since your uniform was covered by blood," he stated, opening the thick book on his table.

"I see." I nodded.

"If you still have further question, feel free to ask me." He ran his fingers througn his hair.

"Why did you save me? I thought I was dead," I asked nosily, swallowing a lump.

"Because I felt it. I felt it that I'm obligated to save you," he answered without looking at me.

"Why did you feel that? We don't even know each other right?" I inquired. Honestly, eveything is so messy.

"I don't know, Elvira. Even me, I'm wondering why did I save you. You're just a normal human like everyone else, but my feelings want you," he stated, ruffling his hair as he sighed.

"Is it possible that you lik-" I didn't finish my words when he cut me off.

"No, I'm not romantically attracted to you. I just couldn't understand my feelings. That's all!" he expressed, pointing his index finger on the table.

"I-I see. Just chill okay," I stuttered, shaking my hands.

"If you don't have anything to say, you can now go," he hissed, gritting his jaw.

"O-okay!" I nodded, proceeding to the door. What was that? I just asked and he got angry too easily. Did I hit a sour part?

I closed the door behind me, seeing Jay in front of me. He's closing his arms, leaning against the wall.

"Are you done talking to boss? If yes, let's go down. Michelle went shopping with Paula, so I'm now in charge of taking care of you," he smiled as he chuckled.

"Okay."

"By the way, I'm Jay. And you are?" He offered his hand for a handshake.

"I am Elvira, nice to meet you," I introduced, accepting his hand as I shook it.

"What a beautiful name. Nice to meet you too." He winks, parting our hands. "Let's go downstairs and I'll give you comfortable clothes to wear." He placed his hand on my back, helping me to climb down the stairs.
