V1 Chapter 9: The Offer
That night when my dad came back home. We had a family debate about the right decision to take. We all knew that I shouldn't delay this any longer. Any more will strain our relationship with the City Lord.
My dad told me that serving the City under Baron Balek would be the best scenario for me right now. Although I will leave the town for more than ten years, ultimately, I will return to the place I ought to serve as a Knight. (I'll be back home again)
Considering my father's reputation, I will also be respected and looked upon in this city.
His words seemed reasonable, but I was still salty about not being able to explore the world and travel. Still, deep down inside, I knew that this was a decent life anyone would die for in this world.
There was also an element in our decision; it was that I had no choice but to accept the offer of Baron Balek. I didn't want to be 'silenced' or, worse, to be sold away and kept involuntarily.
Just imagining these scenarios sends shivers down my spine and prevents me from sleeping at night. And considering the nature of this world, it was very accurate and likely to happen to me if I remained independent.
This scenario could've been different if I was strong and everyone feared me, but I am but a child. I cannot scare anyone with my cuteness.
And by the next week, the Knights came again to listen to our decision. (This arrogant Knight is here again!) We agreed on the terms set by the City Lord to enter his banner upon graduation.
I was to be sent to the Royal Knight's Academy of Ethos, the most prestigious Academy in the entire Ethunesian Kingdom. Ethos was the capital of the Ethunesian Kingdom; it was about two thousand kilometers away from my hometown.
In this world, where there was no air transport, this distance seemed like going into another world. Especially for the commoners, who didn't have any teleportation runes that the Nobles used. (Is that why people usually refrain from traveling far distances?)
Going that far on a beast-drawn carriage was long and tiring to bear. One had to restock multiple times on the road, and the threat of dangerous beasts and muggers along the route also made the journey nerve-wracking.
My security was to be handled by Baron Balek, whose Knights generously offered me a whole party of Knights for my entourage's security.
I have never traveled on the road here, so I didn't know common sense, but my father was suspicious about his arrangement (What happened?) But he didn't voice it out in front of the Knights.
My entrance exam to the Academy was registered for the next term, and I needed to attend the Academy for five years. Then for another five years, I will go for advanced classes and do the part-time Squire's job. (It sounds like an internship) The Knight cadets are required to serve on active duty while they are going through advanced training.
For now, my father and I have to go to Ishara for my school supplies. Ishara is a merchant city located about 183 kilometers west of our town; the town connects its roads to almost all the major cities of the Ethunesian Kingdom, making it one of the largest and busiest towns inside it.
The town is also known as the 'Merchant's Town' due to the sheer number of traders and merchants passing through and selling goods there. The goods are unbelievably cheap compared to other places because of the competition inside the market. Making the town famous for its supplies and businesses.
It made me a little sad that this short trip was supposed to be my last outing with my family. It's safe to say that I won't be able to see them for a long time.
This was unbelievably cruel. If I didn't have my previous life memories and a consciousness of a 28-year-old, any normal kid would've forgotten his parents. After all, not many kids remember their life before five. The bonds I've created would have been erased, and I wouldn't even be aware of it. (This would have happened to many kids here who were brainwashed by these Nobles)
(We don't even know what we forgot)
The Nobles had a way of peacefully snatching kids from their parents from a young age and making them the way they wanted them to be. Fortunately, this only happened to talented individuals, who could be considered a threat to society.

While Jake's life was dancing in the palm of the nobles, on the other side, the dark faction was planning their next step to remove this new variable from going into the City Lord's hands.
Barnes was a little distressed when he got the news that the target accepted to be the noble's obedient dog. Now bagging him away would take a direct confrontation which the dark faction was famed for avoiding.
(I bet that Baron is laughing his ass out right now, that he has cut our plans off) Barnes was pissed over Baron Balek, who moved too fast from his prediction to get that child.
(Shit, I can't lose this opportunity, I have to get the boy one way or another) the leader of the Dark Faction of Balek town was pressured by both sides. One was his desire to rise up on the Underworld's rankings, and the other was the Light Faction, who always got in his way.
He wanted to create this Balek Town as a hub for his main business, Slave Trading. But time and time again, Baron Robert Balek came in between his plans which either led them unfulfilled or the plans he made didn't produce the intended results.
(Fuck it! I will change the whole board in one move!) A sinister grin formed on Barnes' face when he cooked up a plan that was never heard of in the Dark Faction.
(But for this, I want the help of other groups, too, I need to convince them)
Naturally, there were other types of groups in the Dark Faction that handled different kinds of businesses. Some dealt with smuggling, and others with assassination. It was impossible for a single group to control all these things.
So naturally, there was a correlation between these factions inside the Underworld. And about the particular plan that Barnes had in his mind, only time will tell how this 'never been seen or heard of' plan changes this world.
V1 Chapter 10: Merchant Town Andrew wasn't happy with the treatment Jake was receiving. He had a frown on his face the whole time while the meeting with the Knights was going on. Those Knights acted as if nothing was wrong, but Andrew held onto his suspicions. Something felt wrong; this whole drama of Baron rushing them to make a decision was shady. It looked like they wanted to send Jake far away as soon as possible. (Are they trying to hide something?) Andrew, who grew up in this town, had an idea of the dark faction or the Mafia, as the ordinary citizens called it, but he didn't have a picture of the actual depth of darkness. He could've suspected those people, but he didn't believe that the Baron would run away from those rag-tag rejects of society. It was too unfathomable to imagine that state authorities would fear the criminals. As absurd as it sounds. Still, it created an ink of doubt inside his mind. (What if it's true that there are people who want to capture Jake?)
V1 Chapter 11: Goodbye Spar The day of my departure was just around the corner now. The days which might be the last time I would see my parents passed by in a flash. I'll have to set off for Ethos tomorrow, making me feel empty and sad inside. Although I may have my consciousness of my past life, the bond I have created with my family is special to me now. This is how I wished to live in my previous life, too, with my family. I was sitting in my backyard, gazing up at the sky while my thought was running rampant. A lot has happened in the last five years. (I got the thing that I so yearned for) I lived, ate, and slept with my new family. It was one of the best feelings I got from this life. Maybe this happiness got multiplied by the fact that I lost everyone in my previous life, but I didn't care. My heart, which was numbed before, slowly regained its former form. (Although I still don't feel anything for anyone except my family). But one thing that worries me a little bit is t
V1 Chapter 12: GoodbyesThe town of Balek is a pretty small town in comparison to this world. Some may even say that this town acted like a satellite city for the town of Ishara. There were very few residential buildings in Ishara, so most of the people came to Balek town for residency. This town didn't have many roads and pathways built to connect itself to the major cities of the Etunesian Kingdom, which made it a fair bit of a secluded town, with visitors mainly coming from Ishara.Being a secluded town, this town was relatively quiet and monotonous from the rest of the world. A small town where most of the people knew each other from birth, daily doing the same things for the rest of their lives until they get buried in the same soil. But in recent days, there was a bit of an uproar about a new silver potential born inside this town.Lord of the Town, Robert Balek, had spread this rumor all around the city after Jake agreed to be under their banner.Everybody and their moms were

V1 Chapter 1: PrologueOn a bustling and noisy night in a developed modern city stood a tall building of a multinational corporation. The building, which looked like a small skyscraper, stood there, adding to the city's already beautiful skyline. Many workers and employees were working inside, some minding their own business and some chatting with others. One could hear the sound of repetitive keyboard clicks and soft murmurs almost everywhere.Although the clock was hitting midnight, the atmosphere inside looked like this wasn't the time for the people to return home. Although this one was considered one of the best. This was the situation of any average game development company that ambitiously started a project and forced its employees to complete the work before the announced deadline. The building, which looked quite beautiful and sophisticated from the outside, was anything but that from the inside. Disheveled and depressed faces of people who were working there proved it. If
V1 Chapter 2: Into the LightIt was a sunny day, and there was not a trace of a cloud in the sky. The whole town was busy doing their daily job. But this wasn't any ordinary town, at least from the perspective of Earthlings. The housing in this town looked like it was copied from seventeenth-century Europe. Wooden houses with slanting roofs, bustling markets full of peddlers, and people wearing attires that could only be seen in paintings on Earth. This was Balek Town, the town was on the smaller side compared to others, but it was big enough to house thousands of people. Most looked like laborers, peasants, blacksmiths, and other jobs that Earthlings didn't care about. In this busy town, a lady could be seen giving birth in a relatively-large house. The Midwife was assisting the lady in the delivery. "AGHHHhh~" Shouting uncontrollably, the lady gave birth to a baby. The baby started crying and looked around for the first time with his yellow, beady eyes. But they all didn't know
V1 Chapter 3: Family DinnerI heard mom's voice calling me, which broke my thoughts. "Jake, come down to have dinner!" she yelled. (Alright! Let's go. I am quite hungry right now). I packed my books and went down to have my dinner (I just hope there's meat). Yes, meat in this world is absolutely delicious, probably because there's magic flowing inside them too. I have never tasted anything like that in my old life. My body was growing nicely, and I looked pretty cute (I wonder if ill look like a model when I grow up). Pushing my thoughts away, I entered the dining room where my dad was already sitting. From the corner of my eyes, I saw a silhouette of a person that honestly surprised me (When did he return??). I said, "Hi Clark," yes, I don't call him big brother. (I am his father's age damnit)"Hi, Jake." He replied with a smile"When did you come home?" I asked him with a confused smile, (I remember this is not his time for vacation, winter is three months ahead.) "I arrived a fe
V1 Chapter 4: Awakening Ceremony Two years have passed since I started swordsmanship training with dad. It was really harsh at first, but then I got addicted to it. It was as if I had found something that was supposed to be mine. If anyone asked me in this world what I like the most, I would answer them Sword and Magic. I was five now, and this was the time of my awakening. To say that I was nervous was just an understatement. I was swinging my sword in the garden. Swords gave me peace of mind; it was like a trance-like state where I could peacefully introspect myself. I always diligently trained under my father. My addiction and the love I cultivated towards swords were part of that motivation. And another part of the reason was that I was horrified. Yes, I was horrified to be a bottom-feeder in this world. I wanted to have choices (What good I would be if I became a failure in this second chance). I wanted to be the owner of my fate, free from burdens. I sometimes overexer
