RADS 33. A Promise

Sam returned to the inn late at night. He carefully opened the window, causing it to creak softly in protest. The sudden sound startled Lyra, who was already in bed, her eyes wide with surprise at the unexpected noise. Sam's entrance into the room was swift and silent, his movements calculated to avoid drawing unnecessary attention from neighbors.

Despite the late hour, his mind was racing with thoughts of the warehouse he had just observed and the mysteries it held. With a sense of urgency, he crossed the room in quick strides, his footsteps barely making a sound on the wooden floorboards. Lyra watched him intently, her curiosity piqued by his late-night return and the determined look on his face.

"Oh, sorry I woke you up," Sam apologized softly as Lyra's gaze met his.

"I can't sleep," Lyra confessed, her tone filled with restlessness. "Did they still chase you this late into the night?"

"No, I got away before dusk. Just went for a bit of a walk," Sam replied casually.
