The word billions was a temptation even to Kagern, a son to the richest man in Cereal City and also, of course, Surreal city—especially now that he had spent 3 years in poverty, enduring mockery and humiliation.

However, he couldn't understand why a man like his father would give up on his revenge just because of a few billions.

His heart sank at the thought that the Williams Family would never pay for what they did. For forcing him to change everything about him and become a living dead.

'They're the reason I never saw or talked to Bella again!'

'The reason I accepted that cheater's proposal.'

'I'll never forgive them!'

Though he knew he had close to no words to change his father's mind, he couldn't just let it be.

"But Dad, is money worth the misery we suffered?"

His father leaned back in his chair, a knowing smile playing on his lips. "Sometimes, son, the best revenge is not immediate retaliation, but patient planning," he replied, his voice laced with a hint of cunning. "We'll b

"Son, you're the future of my empire," said his father as he stood up and took a step toward Kagern. "Make sure you live up to its reputation.""Of course, dad!"The man gave him one last proud and admirable look before tapping him on the shoulder and heading for the door. Kagern's gaze lingered on him, his nails tracing the 10 billion dollar card in his hand. He couldn't tell exactly what kind of feelings he had. Just yesterday, he was a pauper, making a living off part time jobs and ghost writing scripts, without hope for the future. Mr. Stanley, a man his father had given him to take care of him was dead, a chance to communicate with his imprisoned father with him. Only Jennifer glanced back when Kagern shouted wait. It was as if Mr. Brooks didn't hear him at all. The man continued to drag the reluctant Jennifer away, until he reached a suite next to the one Kagern and his father had been into.He was going to enter when Kagern used something different from wait. Something the man could hear clearly."Mr. Brooks, what do you think you're doing?"This time, the man turned around, his eyes bloodshot and his veins visible under the skin on his temples."What did you say?"Now that Kagern had got his attention, he slowed down, approaching the duo confidently as he repeated his question."What do you think you're doing?"Before the man could shout any word, Kagern continued, "Do you know that that's harassment? Do you know that you can go to jail for what you're about to do to that young girl?"Dumbfounded, Mr. Brooks let out a chuckle and took a step toward Kagern."I'm a good person so I'll give you a warning," he said. Not knowing what was coming for him, Mr. Brooks continued insulting Kagern, banging at the suite's door. "You bastard, I'm going to count to three. If you haven't opened the door yet, if you make me open it myself, nothing will save you."Kagern ignored him. He knew it would take a few minutes to get the master key... and in those few minutes, Bingle and the women in black would be on their way here. That's why he marched toward the sofa, then gestured to Jennifer to come and sit. She reluctantly approached, not believing how he could be so calm in such a situation.Of course the women in black were on their way. However, they were also the hotel's workers, a hotel Mr. Brooks ruled. What if they also took the man's side?Kagern was putting himself at risk for… her? A person who had insulted him?Jennifer felt like crying. She raised her gaze to look at him admirably.‘He's so kind and… and handsome.’'If only I was on his good side.’Her eyes glistened with tears at the thought of

Kagern allowed Jennifer to cry all she wanted, holding her tight to comfort her... and to tease Bingle who stood there, pretending she didn't give a damn to whatever was happening. "I'm really grateful," Jennifer continued using each and every sentence that she knew could mean thank you. Kagern didn't blame her for it. Though he was not a girl, he could understand what it was like to be dragged in a room by a man like Mr. Brooks. "It's okay!" he said, tapping her on the back. "He won't trouble you anymore."A few minutes later, Jennifer reluctantly pulled away from Kagern, staring at him with grateful teary eyes which were filled with admiration.Bingle stepped closer and comforted her, saying, "Go get some rest. The weekend team arrives soon, anyway."Golden Heart Hotel was a 24/7 business, but its workers were not robots. That's why there were two teams, one for the weekend and the other for the business days, all with their own nightshifters. Jennifer murmured a thank you and l

Kagern's eyes darted from the phone screen to Mr. Bannet, a smile still etched on his chiseled face. He felt like touching his lips to stop them from smiling, but he knew the problem wasn't the lips, but his mind that was still reminiscing his kiss with Bingle. 'Don't tell me I'm falling in love!''So, what if I'm falling for her? What's there to fear?''I actually can't! How do I know she doesn't love me because of my money?''What if it's because of my money? At least she is good natured. At least she spoke for me all these years. She is the reason why Belinda and I were allowed to take leftovers home. She's the reason the security team didn't beat me up and throw me out when Jennifer disrespected me.'"Mr. McDenials," said Mr. Bannet, snapping Kagern out of his deep thoughts. Her gaze held his, giving the impression of a knight keeping an eye on a princess she swore to protect.No. It was more like she was afraid he would escape. "What do you mean?"Of course Kagern understood what she meant by not letting him escape. However, hearing the details would help him to make sure if she was just taking their flirty conversation to the next level or if she literally meant what she said.A chuckle escaped from her tempting lips, amused with his question. Kagern left the hotel with a mind full of questions no one could give him answers for... except for Bingle of course. 'I'm a virgin. "Linda, let's go shopping!"Joy spread over his face when Belinda's excited voice came from the other side. "Really?"He nodded, as if she could see him. "Yeah!" he then said after he realized she could not see his nod. "Where?""The Maze!"Knowing that she was going to scream, Kagern put the phone further away from his ear. ***The entrance to The Maze wasn't marked by a blaring sign or a garish display. • Reclaiming my Rich-kid Status   Chapter 27: A bet With David

This was a weekend before Triple M, so Kagern expected the Maze to be flocking with the academy students. It was the only destination for any person who wanted their outfits to impress, after all. However, meeting this particular pair wasn't among those expectations. He glanced at Erica, her last name sipping into his mind. Brooks.'What's with the Brooks fools trying to make my Friday a hell?'His encounter with Mr. Brooks back at the hotel was enough for him to avoid another abomination going by such a last name. Now that he has nothing to do about it, he gritted his teeth and spared her a glance. ‘Heavy makeup’ was the first phrase to cross his mind, then ‘expensive outfit.’ This made her less beautiful than Kagern remembered, complimented by a dress so revealing and indecent that some buildings or places would not allow her to enter. With a triumphant smile, she leaned against David like he was a wall, and the latter's hand was somewhere behind her, way lower than it should b

Erio stepped toward her, pleading, "Mrs. Coulter, please! Just tonight! I promise I'm gonna pay you tomorrow. Except this month, have I ever been late to pay the rent?"Mrs. Coulter burst into laughter at his words. "Never been late, uh? When did you pay me last month?"Last month, Erio only got late for just one day. He couldn't believe she still had that grudge, over just one day. It was time for him to burst into laughter, too, but he couldn't. Laughing at her would make the situation worse than it was. That's why he decided to keep pleading."I promise I'll pay you tomorrow before noon. Besides, I'm late for just 4 days. I can compensate you for them. Just... Kagern couldn't help but burst out laughing. He said, "Oh! I would like to see you do that."If Kagern didn't have a back up plan, he wouldn't be being arrogant. He would be on his knees now, pleading for Bingle to be released. However, now he knew his father was working on it. Soon, Willy Williams would be the one begging him. His arrogant response made a scowl appear on Willy's face. He stepped toward him and said, "Do you think I'm kidding? Do you think I won't r*pe her? Listen, that bitch had ignored me for a long time. I'll make sure she pays for it. As for you, I advise you not to play arrogant in front of me if you love her. • Chapter 50: Threats

Kagern's blood ran cold. Bingle's muffled whimpers and Willy's smug threat painted a horrifying picture.'What do I do?'He asked himself as he ran outside. He had to reach his convoy and go as soon as possible. "Where are you?" he asked, though he suspected it was at the Golden Heart Hotel. That's where he had left Bingle, after all. "At the Golden Heart Hotel," replied Willy. "Get here in 10 minutes, alone. Bingle is not here though. My men are taking her somewhere else. If you call police or anything happens to me, he's death will be on your hands.""Ten minutes it is. OK! I'm coming!"Willy guffawed.Kagern shoved the phone into his pocket, a familiar icy dread gripping him. Helping Jennifer had been a welcome respite, but this call was a brutal reminder of the viper's nest he still called a life. Willy Williams, the arrogant fool from Williams Family must have held a grudge on him after he rescued Bungle's father. But Kagern wasn't afraid. He had so many ways to teach that fo

  • Chapter 49: Phone Calls

Kagern approached Jennifer cautiously, the sterile white walls of the Surreal City Hospital amplifying the sound of her choked sobs. He'd never seen her like this – the ever-composed, arrogant receptionist reduced to a woman crumbling under her emotions. A sense of pity pricked at him. He remembered their first encounter; her sharp words and disdainful glare. Yet, he'd seen a different side of her – a woman terrified by Mr. Brooks, a woman he'd readily protected."Jenniffer?" he repeated, his voice barely a whisper.Jennifer flinched, startled from her grief. She whipped her head around, wiping furiously at her reddened eyes with the back of her hand. "Mr. McDenials?" she stammered, her voice thick with emotion. "I – I didn't expect to see you here.""It's okay to call me Jayden," he said gently, his concern evident. "What happened? I mean, if it's okay with you to tell me, why're you crying?"Jennifer hesitated, chewing on her lower lip. The carefully constructed facade she usually w

  • Chapter 48: Encounter With Jennifer

Kagern had told Bingle he was about to go to the hospital with Belinda, and yet she still kissed him passionately.Perhaps he might have gotten angry that she didn't listen to him, but he didn't. Instead, he kissed back, happy that she had taken that bold move. Come to think of it, was he really refusing because he was about to go to the hospital with Belinda? Maybe yes, but then again, no. It's because he was a virgin. Because all these things, kissing and sex, frightened him in some way. 'I should stop being a coward!'With this, Kagern reached for her waist, then slowly moved his hand downward. That's when Bingle pulled back and said, "That was a thank you." She jumped to her bed and added, "Thank you for everything. My parents are now safe and happy because of you. They also said they want to meet you. I would be happy."Kagern was kinda disappointed. Just as he got the courage, she pulled back. 'But it's tonight. There will be no escape,' he said to himself, internally, and op

  • Chapter 47: Passionately

The next morning, despite being Saturday, Kagern and Lilyon took Julie to see her mom and siblings. When they reached the police station, Carolina said she didn't want to see them, so they stayed behind while Julie was taken to see her. After that, Kagern and Lilyon escorted the little girl to her school, then made their way to Stanley Industries."Now you're the CEO, huh?" Kagern teased Lilyon as his convoy came to a stop outside the building. "Thanks to you!" she replied, readying herself to get out of the car."Go make me proud then!""Of course!"With this, Lilyon hugged him and stepped out of the car as Tharn held the door for her. She turned around and said, "I hope you come visit us again soon, right?"Kagern nodded his head. "Of course I'll! Just put things at the company back in order then call me. We can take some days off and go on a vacation or something."Lilyon raised her pinkie finger and asked, "Promise?"Kagern raised his and replied, "Promise!"He then watched he

  • Chapter 46: Her Picture

It had been 2 years since Kagern left Stanley Mansion... No! Since Carolina forced him to leave, but nothing had changed about the house at all. Only the faces around had changed. Carolina had fired the security personnel, the steward, the children's tutor… almost everyone after Mr. Stanley's death. Perhaps it was because they weren't as royal as they were to him, or because she didn't want anyone to question her plans to bully Lilyon and Kagern. In her plans to make them suffer. "Where's Julie?" asked Lilyon as soon as they entered the mansion. The steward, a man in his 40s with a mustache and few gray strands in his hair, pointed at the spiral stairs and said, "She's in her room, miss!""Does she know the news yet?""We haven't told her. She's still too young to understand. But she's been asking us where her mother and siblings are.""I see!"With this, Lilyon glanced at Kagern who followed her toward the staircase. "How do I break the news to her?" asked Lilyon as they climbed

Of course Kagern couldn't just slap Alistair. Yeah! The young man had almost killed him and had added insults instead of apologizing. However, Kagern was not raised that way. Violence was not his thing. That's why he only sent Alistair's father their address and waited for him to come and slap him himself. As for Alistair, he had kept quiet, and was now sitting on the ground, shaking with fear. When Tharn approached him, the young screamed in fear that it made every person passing nearby turn their heads. "What's wrong?" asked Kagern. "I thought he was gonna slap me."Kagern couldn't just brush off the fact that Alistair had almost killed him and didn't apologize. He didn't make him feel pity at all. But then again, he understood that he was really frightened and decided to comfort him. "Don't worry!" he said, patting him on the shoulder. "No one's gonna slap you. Unless your father does it himself.”Alistair was on the verge of crying. He looked Kagern in the eye and said, "Plea

After all the board members agreed on making Lilyon the new CEO if Kagern really transferred all his shares to her, the meeting came to an end.Carolina's secretary assisted them in signing the legal transfer of the said shares, and she was friendly in everything she did. Even a fool could see she was trying to worm her way into Lilyon's heart. "Should I keep her?" Lilyon asked Kagern when the secretary was busy arranging papers on a desk a few meters away from them. "She knows most of Carolina's secrets," replied Kagern. "She also seems desperate. Keep her for now and decide what to do with her after you're familiar with the CEO's work."Lilyon smiled at him, and said, "That's actually a great idea.” She didn't forget to add, "And thank you for everything.""I guess I have said a lot of your welcomes," Kagern joked, letting a smile climb over his face. "It's really nothing big. You're my sister. This is our father's legacy. You should have done the same anyway. It's only that I was
