Bingle wasn't dressed in her uniform. Instead, a black cargo pant and a baggy jumper of the same color, clothes you wouldn't expect a girl like her to wear.

'Interesting!'

Kagern nodded his head to show her he had got her signal, then tried to end the conversation with Belinda.

"Saying this might be your house soon," her question replayed in his mind. "What did you mean?”

Kagern didn't have a better lie. He just said, "That's one of the issues Lydia will help me with. I'll explain it to you when you're back."

Belinda raised her eyebrows.

"Back from where?"

Kagern answered with a question.

"Didn't you say you'll accompany Lydia to the police station?"

Belinda gave him a suspicious look.

"Why do you sound like you have somewhere you want to be?"

"It's because there is."

With this, Kagern stood up to leave while saying, "Tharn will take you. Inform me when you're back so I can come talk to Lydia."

He knew Belinda would be watching him, but he had no choice but to approach Bingle.

The plush king-sized bed, a cloud of Egyptian cotton sheets the color of fresh snow, still swallowed Kagern and Bingle whole. Sunlight, softened by silk curtains the color of spun gold, streamed in, illuminating motes of dust dancing in the air like tiny ballerinas. A crystal vase overflowing with lilies, their fragrance sweet and intoxicating, sat on a bedside table crafted from a single slab of mahogany, its surface polished to a mirror sheen. Here, in this luxurious haven, Bingle cried. Tears, unchecked and glistening, traced tracks down her cheeks. Leaning against Kagern's broad chest, her sobs were muffled by the thickness of the down comforter that seemed to puff up around them like a protective cocoon. Kagern, his jaw clenched with an anger that mirrored Bingle's fear, held her tight. His voice, a deep rumble that sent shivers down her spine, promised comfort. "Don't worry," he vowed, each word a testament to his resolve. "Now that I know the truth, nothing is gonna happen to y

Bingle, mortified beyond belief, peeked through her fingers at the unfolding scene. Lydia was still shocked on her own, so embarrassed as if she was to one caught in a guy's room.If only the carpet could swallow her. For once, Belinda seemed genuinely surprised... though her mischievous glint quickly returned as she wrestled Kagern's hand away from her mouth."Okay, okay," she conceded, her voice breathless from laughter. "Maybe interrupting wasn't the wisest thing."Kagern tried to defend himself. "Obviously not!" Despite saying this, his cheeks were still burning crimson. He glanced back at Bingle, his frustration tinged with a desperate hope. "Bingle, I...""Oh, don't worry about me, Kagern," Bingle interrupted, forcing a small smile. "I understand. It's a bit...awkward."Her voice held a hint of sadness that pricked at Kagern's conscience. He wanted nothing more than to usher Belinda and Lydia out and comfort her, but the urgency of the situation wouldn't allow it.Lydia, fin

"I asked you, where did you get so much money? Don't tell me it's the script.""Linda, it's a secret," he replied, with a smile. "I'll tell you when I'm ready."It didn't take long for her shocked expression to disappear. Kagern was rich, so rich that he was going to buy the hotel, nothing else.Several minutes later, Lydia was done checking the contract. Others were still chit-chatting, Kagern with Bingle, Belinda with Mr. Bannet. She seemed to be enjoying the stories this man in his 40s was telling. Perhaps because he wasn't shy to answer the weird questions she was asking. "You said you run a club, right? I mean, a real club?" she had asked. The man, a bit confused, nodded his head. "And you get to see beautiful young girls dancing naked everyday."Mr. Bannet couldn't help but laugh. "They're not naked," he corrected. "They're almost.""Same thing!""Where are you heading with this?"Belinda chuckled and said, "Just trying to know why men like such things."Just then, Lydia's

"What kind of trouble?" Kagern couldn't help but ask. He wanted to know if she needed help that instant, or if it was something that could wait. "It's our step-mom. She wants to sell the business and flee with her children abroad. I don't know what to do."Lilyon still thought Kagern was her brother. She loved him with all her heart and she has sacrificed a lot for him. He couldn't let that snake of a woman take away what was hers. She was the true Stanley. She deserved everything. The problem was, how would he prevent that woman from selling the business? Mr. Stanley had died before he could state his will. 'I have to do something.'"Lily, don't worry? I'm coming and I'll solve that problem."Her answer surprised him."No! Don't come!""Why?""A friend of mine who gave me the news about our stepmom's plans to sell the business told me he heard her say she's planning to kill me and make it look like an accident. I'm afraid she'll do the same to you if you show up."Kagern raised his

"How dare you enter this building? Didn't I tell you never to return here, you bastard?"The woman's voice was laced with contempt, the beaming expression she wore on her face reminding Kagern how she would always smile at him while she bullied him back when he still lived with them. Today was different. He was not the same pushover who would avoid challenging her because she would kick him out of the Stanley Mansion if he did so. He was now a son to the richest man in Cereal City, a soon to be Golden Heart Hotel's solo owner. That's why he adorned a contemptuous smile of his and stepped toward her. "You have no right to tell me never to come here. That's the first thing I want you to know. Second, mind your language before you say something that you might regret besides calling me a bastard."As if his words were the greatest joke the woman had ever heard, she burst out laughing, so loud that Kagern shifted his gaze to the wall beside to avoid looking into her wide open mouth. "S

Kagern couldn't tell her about his father. That they were not brother and sister. That Mr. Stanley, her father, was just a kind man, a friend of his father's who took care of him when the world seemed to have turned its backs from him. That's why he told her the lie he had used on Belinda. It seemed to have worked, after all. "I've managed to sell a script. That gives me a few millions, a lawyer and a few security men since I'm here to deal with people who might want to murder us."Like Belinda, Lilyon didn't question him anymore. These girls trusted him and they were happy for him for his achievements. She hugged him some more seconds while saying, "Thank you for taking the risk. Thank you for coming here to fight with me. Thank you for giving me hope."Kagern patted her back and said, "Don't mention it. You're the one who paid my school fees, after all. You're the reason I acquired the knowledge and skills to write that script. I couldn't hesitate when your life was in danger."L

Kagern called Tharn and told him the situation. He then asked Lilyon to tell him the closest VIP restaurant and instructed Tharn to meet him there. Soon, he and Lilyon made it to a luxurious restaurant and entered, going deeper to sit in the far end corner, somewhere secluded and secure from the snipers. They didn't know what method Carolina would use to kill them. It was wise to make sure they were far from danger. But then again, knowing someone like Carolina and the words she just said, it was clear that she would want to torture them both physically and emotionally before killing them. So, the option was she would kidnap them.Whatever she was planning, Kagern wasn't afraid at all. Tharn and a few men occupied a few tables, pretending to order something to eat. They were looking for any sign of a kidnapper or a killer. Lilyon didn't know that. The convoy was also not far. A few men were with Lydia, others securing the perimeter. Carolina's lakies were in for a big surprise of

  • Reclaiming my Rich-kid Status   Chapter 40: Under Arrest

Kagern and Lilyon left the restaurant, his phone glued on his ear, a police man giving him directions. They soon left the bustling streets and entered a secluded alleyway, a perfect place for a kidnapper to lay his trap. As expected, it didn't take long for Carolina's men to show up. Kagern was not surprised to see that the men came were from the same underground agency that had been trying to kidnap Lydia, the one that Karen's men were from. Considering the way he had brushed paths with these guys today, he was sure they would come after him. He had to strengthen his defence. They came in a white van, the one that wouldn't look suspicious if spotted on the road. Four men, no masks, only black suits, rushed out and surrounded Kagern and Lilyon, trying to put some kind of a white cloth that smelled bad on their nose. Kagern had never expected a scene he always saw in movies would happen to him in real life. Unbeknownst to the kidnappers, a police officer lurked nearby taking the

Erio stepped toward her, pleading, "Mrs. Coulter, please! Just tonight! I promise I'm gonna pay you tomorrow. Except this month, have I ever been late to pay the rent?"Mrs. Coulter burst into laughter at his words. "Never been late, uh? When did you pay me last month?"Last month, Erio only got late for just one day. He couldn't believe she still had that grudge, over just one day. It was time for him to burst into laughter, too, but he couldn't. Laughing at her would make the situation worse than it was. That's why he decided to keep pleading."I promise I'll pay you tomorrow before noon. Besides, I'm late for just 4 days. I can compensate you for them. Just... Please!"He had a manuscript he had been ghostwriting for Bernard. He was sure he would be done with it tomorrow morning, then get his payment at least 2 to 3 hours after sub

Kagern couldn't help but burst out laughing. He said, "Oh! I would like to see you do that."If Kagern didn't have a back up plan, he wouldn't be being arrogant. He would be on his knees now, pleading for Bingle to be released. However, now he knew his father was working on it. Soon, Willy Williams would be the one begging him. His arrogant response made a scowl appear on Willy's face. He stepped toward him and said, "Do you think I'm kidding? Do you think I won't r*pe her? Listen, that bitch had ignored me for a long time. I'll make sure she pays for it. As for you, I advise you not to play arrogant in front of me if you love her. If you don't want me to punish her even more."Kagern stepped closer to him, too, a sign that he was not afraid of him. He said, "Hey, why don't you do it now? Do you think I'm afraid of you? Haha! I feel pity for you."Willy smashed the whisky glass he was holding to the ground and grabbed Kagern by the collar. "Who do you think you're talking to like tha

Kagern's blood ran cold. Bingle's muffled whimpers and Willy's smug threat painted a horrifying picture.'What do I do?'He asked himself as he ran outside. He had to reach his convoy and go as soon as possible. "Where are you?" he asked, though he suspected it was at the Golden Heart Hotel. That's where he had left Bingle, after all. "At the Golden Heart Hotel," replied Willy. "Get here in 10 minutes, alone. Bingle is not here though. My men are taking her somewhere else. If you call police or anything happens to me, he's death will be on your hands.""Ten minutes it is. OK! Helping Jennifer had been a welcome respite, but this call was a brutal reminder of the viper's nest he still called a life. Willy Williams, the arrogant fool from Williams Family must have held a grudge on him after he rescued Bungle's father. But Kagern wasn't afraid. He had so many ways to teach that fo

  • Chapter 49: Phone Calls

Kagern approached Jennifer cautiously, the sterile white walls of the Surreal City Hospital amplifying the sound of her choked sobs. He'd never seen her like this – the ever-composed, arrogant receptionist reduced to a woman crumbling under her emotions. A sense of pity pricked at him. He remembered their first encounter; her sharp words and disdainful glare. Yet, he'd seen a different side of her – a woman terrified by Mr. Brooks, a woman he'd readily protected."Jenniffer?" he repeated, his voice barely a whisper.Jennifer flinched, startled from her grief. She whipped her head around, wiping furiously at her reddened eyes with the back of her hand. "Mr. McDenials?" she stammered, her voice thick with emotion. "I – I didn't expect to see you here.""It's okay to call me Jayden," he said gently, his concern evident. "What happened? I mean, if it's okay with you to tell me, why're you crying?"Jennifer hesitated, chewing on her lower lip. The carefully constructed facade she usually w

  • Chapter 48: Encounter With Jennifer

Kagern had told Bingle he was about to go to the hospital with Belinda, and yet she still kissed him passionately.Perhaps he might have gotten angry that she didn't listen to him, but he didn't. Instead, he kissed back, happy that she had taken that bold move. Come to think of it, was he really refusing because he was about to go to the hospital with Belinda? Maybe yes, but then again, no. It's because he was a virgin. Because all these things, kissing and sex, frightened him in some way. 'I should stop being a coward!'With this, Kagern reached for her waist, then slowly moved his hand downward. That's when Bingle pulled back and said, "That was a thank you." She jumped to her bed and added, "Thank you for everything. My parents are now safe and happy because of you. They also said they want to meet you. I would be happy."Kagern was kinda disappointed. Just as he got the courage, she pulled back. 'But it's tonight. There will be no escape,' he said to himself, internally, and op

  • Chapter 47: Passionately

The next morning, despite being Saturday, Kagern and Lilyon took Julie to see her mom and siblings. When they reached the police station, Carolina said she didn't want to see them, so they stayed behind while Julie was taken to see her. After that, Kagern and Lilyon escorted the little girl to her school, then made their way to Stanley Industries."Now you're the CEO, huh?" Kagern teased Lilyon as his convoy came to a stop outside the building. "Thanks to you!" she replied, readying herself to get out of the car."Go make me proud then!""Of course!"With this, Lilyon hugged him and stepped out of the car as Tharn held the door for her. She turned around and said, "I hope you come visit us again soon, right?"Kagern nodded his head. "Of course I'll! Just put things at the company back in order then call me. We can take some days off and go on a vacation or something."Lilyon raised her pinkie finger and asked, "Promise?"Kagern raised his and replied, "Promise!"He then watched he

  • Chapter 46: Her Picture

It had been 2 years since Kagern left Stanley Mansion... No! Since Carolina forced him to leave, but nothing had changed about the house at all. Only the faces around had changed. Carolina had fired the security personnel, the steward, the children's tutor… almost everyone after Mr. Stanley's death. Perhaps it was because they weren't as royal as they were to him, or because she didn't want anyone to question her plans to bully Lilyon and Kagern. In her plans to make them suffer. "Where's Julie?" asked Lilyon as soon as they entered the mansion. The steward, a man in his 40s with a mustache and few gray strands in his hair, pointed at the spiral stairs and said, "She's in her room, miss!""Does she know the news yet?""We haven't told her. She's still too young to understand. But she's been asking us where her mother and siblings are.""I see!"With this, Lilyon glanced at Kagern who followed her toward the staircase. "How do I break the news to her?" asked Lilyon as they climbed

Of course Kagern couldn't just slap Alistair. Yeah! The young man had almost killed him and had added insults instead of apologizing. However, Kagern was not raised that way. Violence was not his thing. That's why he only sent Alistair's father their address and waited for him to come and slap him himself. As for Alistair, he had kept quiet, and was now sitting on the ground, shaking with fear. When Tharn approached him, the young screamed in fear that it made every person passing nearby turn their heads. "What's wrong?" asked Kagern. "I thought he was gonna slap me."Kagern couldn't just brush off the fact that Alistair had almost killed him and didn't apologize. He didn't make him feel pity at all. But then again, he understood that he was really frightened and decided to comfort him. "Don't worry!" he said, patting him on the shoulder. "No one's gonna slap you. Unless your father does it himself.”Alistair was on the verge of crying. He looked Kagern in the eye and said, "Plea

After all the board members agreed on making Lilyon the new CEO if Kagern really transferred all his shares to her, the meeting came to an end.Carolina's secretary assisted them in signing the legal transfer of the said shares, and she was friendly in everything she did. Even a fool could see she was trying to worm her way into Lilyon's heart. "Should I keep her?" Lilyon asked Kagern when the secretary was busy arranging papers on a desk a few meters away from them. "She knows most of Carolina's secrets," replied Kagern. "She also seems desperate. Keep her for now and decide what to do with her after you're familiar with the CEO's work."Lilyon smiled at him, and said, "That's actually a great idea.” She didn't forget to add, "And thank you for everything.""I guess I have said a lot of your welcomes," Kagern joked, letting a smile climb over his face. "It's really nothing big. You're my sister. This is our father's legacy. You should have done the same anyway. It's only that I was
