An Escape Plan and A Need to Revenge

"Thank you," Serafina smiled softly at Geraldo. They had finally gotten to the estate she was going to be living in after a long ride and he offered to take the chip off her skin. "I wonder why I didn't explode into bits because I have moved more than five hundred metres away from his suite."

Geraldo laughed and she wondered what was funny about her statement. But she didn't care. As long as this chip was out of her body, she could escape easily.

She didn't trust Giovanni. She also needed answers from Drake. She needed to know if a wager had been placed on her head. All she needed was one night to escape and find out.

Geraldo continued his drive into the estate, only stopping when two hefty men in suits and dark shades stopped before him.

"When does it begin?"

"Today," Giovanni replied. "He wants it to be acted on with immediate effect."

They nodded and stepped back and Giovanni continued his ride.

"Who are those men?" Serafina asked as she watched them climb into their car.

"Security."

"For who?" Serafina asked with a frown.

"There's a function next week and Giovanni moves with them. He does dangerous business so he needs protection at all times."

Serafina didn't believe him but she took his words for it. Things were starting to get shadier as time went by.

They finally stopped in front of a gate that opened automatically. Geraldo drove in and slowed down to a halt when they got to the garage entrance.

A penthouse.

If she was shocked, Serafina didn't express it. She got out of the car with Geraldo and took in her environment. It was serene, in a closed off part of the estate and she loved it.

"The door is open, Serafina. Here's a key for you." Geraldo said and handed the key over to her.

"Are you coming in with me?"

Geraldo shook his head. "Unfortunately. I have a few important things to attend to. There's a possibility of Giovanni paying you a visit tomorrow. He doesn't know you live here yet."

"Thank you."

"Your car will be towed back to you in an hour."

Serafina nodded and watched him back out of the driveway before she walked towards the door.

Like he had said, the door was open. She pushed it and walked into the most beautiful apartment she'd ever been to.

It was large and cosy! Something her previous apartment lacked. Beautiful colours brought life to it: sage green, blue-grey and a dash of pink all blended to give this space a beautiful statement.

Crystal chandeliers hung on the ceiling, emitting radiant light and as she walked deep into the house, the scent of stir-fry pasta wafted into her nose and a lady dressed in a white apron stepped out.

She beamed at Serafina. "Hello, ma'am. Welcome aboard."

No way in hell. Serafina was living in a dream.

*******

Giovanni was just getting out of his study when his phone buzzed into his pocket.

He slipped his phone out and saw it was a call from his mother. Staring at it for a while, he wondered if picking it up was a good idea.

Well, he'd avoided her calls for over a month and he was starting to feel slightly guilty so he picked up.

"Hello, Mama," he began.

"Giovanni." Her thick Italian accent came, filled with worry. "What has been going on with you? I've been calling for weeks!"

He sighed and leaned against the wall. He wanted to tell her that he didn't want to talk to her for several reasons. The first being that she was living her life like her husband's death still wasn't a mystery unsolved.

"I'm sorry mama. I've been all caught up with work. You know how hard it is in the business world."

She sighed. "I understand, tesoro mio. I've just missed you a lot. And I also got worried."

"I'm fine, Mama. Where are you this time?"

"Oh! I am currently in Sao Paulo and everything here is so exciting!"

Giovanni closed his eyes. "Is he with you?"

"Yes, he is. He made the suggestion. You know this is his home, right? So he thought bringing me here would strengthen the connection."

"Mama, your husband's body hasn't been buried because autopsies are still going on but you are travelling around the world with a good for nothing Poet you met in Paris." Giovanni said with so much hurt and bitterness in his voice. "Father deserves a bit of respect!"

She sighed over the phone and excused herself before bells chimed. Her voice was low now. "Haven't we talked about this, Giovanni? Your father died a long time ago! And before he did, he made me promise to live and fall in love again and I am doing just that. I am getting over him. You should do the same too, honey. He wouldn't love that his body was exhumed and is still in one of the top science labs, being tested on. Get over it already."

This was a topic Giovanni hated. He shouldn't have brought it up. "It's fine, Mama. Enjoy your vacation. Make sure you're safe and know when to walk away."

"Antonio is sweet and loving. He will never do anything to hurt me."

Giovanni hoped so. "Alright then. Enjoy your vacation. I love you."

As soon as the call ended in his ears, Giovanni dialled his private investigator's number.

"Shaft. I need intel on The Mayor. Yes. Christopher Logan. I don't care how you do it. I need info on him."

"I'll do my best, Giovanni but I am not promising. He's quite a tight one to break through. He has security all over and there's nothing you can get easily even from an insider."

Giovanni felt a headache build up behind his neck. He had been chasing this course for over two years and it was starting to seem impossible.

His father deserved justice and he was going to do anything to give him that. Even if it took burning down the whole of New York City.
