As the gargantuan toad stared at Ezra, it inflated the two green sacs hanging under its cheeks, filling them with a dirty yellow bile.

Ezra picked up the cue and understood it was about to attack. He ducked instinctively as a blob of acidic spit flew over his head and burned a hole in one of the rusty drainage pipes behind him.

“A toad that spits acid and gobbles its prey in one go! What else could we have asked for?” Marlin jeered at his own luck, cursing at the deities for creating such an abomination. “Something tells me this situation could have been avoided if you weren’t so obsessed with finding that treasure!”

Ezra stood back up, ignoring Marlin’s remarks. Keeping his eyes fixed on the toad, he conjured another Flame Grenade.

The toad’s sacs inflated once again, but before it could hit Ezra with another acidic blob, he tossed the grenade at the hybrid’s face, giving it another nasty burn.

Seared by the flames, the Bloated Toadfish backed away to rub its padded feet over its mou

Getting swallowed alive by a mutated toad inside an abandoned sewer wasn’t the way Marlin imagined he would die, but the way things were going, he could see there was no way out of this pickle.“Use another weapon!” the old Gunsmith screamed into Ezra’s ear. “Or just conjure your Shadow Cannon. One fire blast from that ought to roast this toad!”“I can’t use the cannon inside the sewer. The space is too cramped, and I might accidentally trigger an explosion if there are any methane leaks nearby,” Ezra replied, crawling along the ground like a lizard who had just lost his tail.As the effects of the Frost Grenade subsided, the toad started moving normally again. It licked its face with its tongue and launched itself off the ground, powered by its springy legs.“Magic Surge!”Ezra released his charged telekinetic blast just in time to fling the toad away, slamming it into the ceiling.A warning message flashed on Ezra’s system panel.[Magic Power remaining: 50%!][Full passive regenerat

Killing the Bloated Toadfish cleared the sewer of all threats, allowing Ezra a chance to finally catch his breath. Although the healing potion had cured his paralysis and healed his bruises, his clothes remained in tatters. Ezra slowly took off his acid-washed jacket and tossed it away. All he had on his back now was a simple white shirt stained with dirt and grime.Never in his life had Ezra expected he would be fighting mutated monsters inside the sewers, but his search for his mother’s treasure had brought him to the bowels of Magaravia.“That was a really close call. Please try to call your Spectral Companion faster next time!” Marlin butted in, interrupting Ezra’s silent meditation. The fight had taken a tremendous toll on Ezra’s body, and even now, he could feel his legs trembling under him.Ezra took a few minutes to catch his breath before heading over to inspect the amphibian’s rotting corpse. The Steel Golems blocking Ezra’s way saw him as an intruder and prepared to defend the gate. “We don’t need to do this. The dungeons have been abandoned long ago. You are guarding nothing. There are no prisoners here.” Ezra tried to resolve issues verbally before resorting to violence. But the hollow knights continued glaring at Ezra without making any response.“It seems like these aren’t intelligent enough to hold a conversation. Servius must have used a low-tier animation spell to create them. These golems are obeying his last command. You cannot convince them to stand down,” Marlin explained to Ezra.“Fine, then. I’ll do this the hard way.”Ezra chucked both elemental grenades at once, setting the two knights ablaze. Not many Gunners would even think of raiding a dungeon haunted by spirits, and the only way some mage would take on this perilous task was if he was backed by a priest or cleric.Ezra, however, had no one else to rely upon. His previous encounter with the Banshee had taught Ezra just how tricky it was to deal with spirits since they were immune to physical attacks. But this time, he had come prepared.Instead of heeding the ominous warning and turning back, Ezra marched forward through the iron doorway and headed for the confinement block. The Power Crystals floating overhead flickered anxiously as Ezra traversed the dimly lit path flanked by empty prison cells on each side.A few old skeletons covered in cobwebs gazed from the dark corners, their bony arms still shackled to the walls and their backs hunched in despair. Some of their more fortunate kinsmen could be seen clutching the rusty bars with their skulls pressed against the locked iron doors. Ezra continued walking, his eyes

“You still have the chance to fall back and forget about this treasure. I am sure your mother would not have wanted you to perish while trying to retrieve her treasure,” Marlin spoke in a ragged voice, trying to ease his breathing. But instead of heeding his advice, Ezra shook his head. “I can’t go back. The effects of Divine Aura have dissipated by now. Those apparitions will drain me to death if I try to double back.”“Then what are you going to do about that ceiling?” Marlin’s voice spiked to a treble pitch as his cursed eye widened in terror.Getting crushed to death was easily one of the most painful ways to die, but Ezra’s eyes were glued to the treasure chests. As the ceiling glided down, crushing the ornamental dragon heads on the wall, Marlin panicked and cried out.“Are you just going to stand there?” “No, I am going to make a run for it!” Ezra replied, swallowing another potion. Then before Marlin could utter another retort, Ezra broke off into a run, gathering momentum

The Mythical Talent Grimoire had detected Ezra’s dual talents and decided to offer him a choice. It was now up to him to decide if he wanted to reach the peak as a Gunner or focus on his secondary talent.“I am glad you are so close to fulfilling your dream. Once you reach the S-level magic talent, you will gain access to shooting skills that can destroy any mage or sorcerer in the blink of an eye. And you can finally become an Ace Gunner and win the tournament!” Marlin spoke with great admiration, encouraging Ezra to take the next step.Climbing to S-level was every Gunner’s dream. It was a feat only a few legendary heroes had been able to accomplish, and they had all gone down in the records as champions. However, in the last hundred years, not a single Gunner, had been able to reach S-level. The closest anyone had come to reaching the peak was A-level, and even the Chief Gunner of king Reginald could not surpass that.Ezra now had the option of using his mother’s gift and reaching

Did Ishani help you vanquish the darkness? Do you still believe in her light, or has your faith finally deserted you?” he hissed like a viper coiled inside a dark pit. Ezra clenched his fist and parted his lips to speak. “You haven’t won yet…and you never will.”Vorus’ face darkened, and his eyes gleamed with all the malice festering inside his soul. “So…defiant. But at least you tried,” Lester scoffed in his arrogant voice as his war axe grated against the wet floor like a long-handed scythe. “Your father was too self-righteous for his own good. He should have just taken the hint and stepped down while he had the chance. It would have certainly saved us all the trouble of killing him.”Those cruel words stung Ezra’s heart. Once again, he was reminded of that fateful day when he had lost everything. But instead of lashing out and cursing Lester, he remained as calm as a monk.“My father trusted you. We thought you actually cared about the people of Aranor. There is no end to their numbers.”“Don’t give up just yet. Ezra needs us to hold the line and keep them distracted,” Aurelia replied, firing a firebolt from her musket.
