Ezra and Tanya arrived at the palace through a teleportation portal that brought them directly to Aleena’s room.

“How did you—”

Aya was shocked to see them waltz into the room through the portal in the wall. The palace was supposed to be completely secure from outside infiltration, but it seemed like Servius’ spell had weakened.

Aleena was quick to clear her confusion. “I gave Lord Ezra a Doorway Crystal before parting ways outside the tower. Doorway Crystals open temporary gates between two locations, disregarding all magical barriers.”

With that, Aleena dismissed her chambermaid and instructed her to stand guard outside the door. She then quickly drew the curtains before turning the lights on.

Queen Guinevere rose from her bed and welcomed Ezra and Tanya with open arms.

“Thank you for saving me. I don’t think I can ever repay you for your kindness.”

Forgetting all royal courtesy, the queen embraced Tanya and kissed her on her forehead like a loving mother.

The queen knew she could trust Servius with her life and share all her secrets in his presence, so she rose to get the door. But Ezra stopped her.“I cannot be seen here with you.”“Why not?” she asked, creasing her brows.“Because the people of Magaravia believe I am dead. Servius doesn’t need to know the truth…not yet.”Even Aleena was puzzled by Ezra’s response. On the one hand, he had explained how Servius’s unfailing loyalty had saved her father, but on the other, he seemed reluctant to trust him.“Why don’t you want Servius to meet you, my Lord?” Aleena enquired.Ezra’s plans, however, were too intricate for him to explain on the spur of the moment. He was waiting to catch the traitors red-handed before revealing himself, and although he trusted Servius, he wanted to exercise every bit of caution just in case things went awry.“I will tell you everything when the time is right, but for now I need you to trust me.” Ezra leaned close to Tanya and whispered his plan in her ears befo

While Tanya and the others were busy hatching a clever plan to trap Esmeralda, Ezra had found his way back to his mansion.Although the thought of heading straight into the royal dungeons was tempting, Ezra knew it was better to be prepared before heading into the dark underground chambers.Ezra used the spare key to unlock the main door and enter the mansion. Patrick had already left, making it easy for Ezra to conduct his experiments in peace. The first thing Ezra did was head to the mansion’s private library. There were over two hundred books stacked neatly across the fifteen shelves, and they covered a wide range of topics, including history, geography as well as monster hunting.Ezra turned up the magic lamps and slid the glass panel aside to access some of the older books bound in red leather. Among them, he soon came across the one he was searching for.It was a book titled, ‘A Brief History of Magaravia: The Royal Palace (vol 2)’. “Let’s see what we have here.”Ezra made his w

Ezra’s eyes brightened with a radiant glow, and each of the three different types of rodents was singled out, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. A set of three display panels appeared in front of Ezra, segregating the rats according to their sub-species and rank. The smallest ones were the most plentiful and classified as Plague Rodent Fledglings. They were the standard pawns in the rodent army and lacked any kind of special skills and abilities. However, their overwhelming strength in numbers made them perfect for quick rushes.Next in line were the larger rodents covered in long black bristles that protected their thick gray hides. These were categorized as Plague Rodent Hunters and had access to one special skill. Last on the list were the oversized rats whose hides were covered in puss-filled green blisters and open red sores. These were classified as Plague Rodent Gorgers and had access to one special ability and two different skills.Ezra quickly glanced through each

The Plague Rodents seemed a lot less threatening now that a mysterious new enemy had dispatched them with haste. Ezra tried to use his Dragon Eye skill to scan the dirty stream of yellowish-brown sludge, but he could only peer a few inches below the surface. The murky depths of the stream remained out of view, and the only traces of the sewer-diving monstrosity Ezra managed to pick up were the dirty green slime marks it had left behind near the rusty pipes.“I think now would be a good time to start using your skills. Whatever that thing was, I can guarantee you it will come back for us,” Marlin spoke in an anxious voice.“It ruined my damn objective. Those were my kills,” Ezra muttered, completely indifferent to the threat lurking beneath the murky depths. His words surprised Marlin, who never expected anyone to keep his nerves steady after witnessing something like that. It was as if Ezra was sure he could handle whatever monster emerged from the sludge, even if he knew nothing abou

As the gargantuan toad stared at Ezra, it inflated the two green sacs hanging under its cheeks, filling them with a dirty yellow bile. Ezra picked up the cue and understood it was about to attack. He ducked instinctively as a blob of acidic spit flew over his head and burned a hole in one of the rusty drainage pipes behind him.“A toad that spits acid and gobbles its prey in one go! What else could we have asked for?” Marlin jeered at his own luck, cursing at the deities for creating such an abomination. “Something tells me this situation could have been avoided if you weren’t so obsessed with finding that treasure!”Ezra stood back up, ignoring Marlin’s remarks. Keeping his eyes fixed on the toad, he conjured another Flame Grenade. The toad’s sacs inflated once again, but before it could hit Ezra with another acidic blob, he tossed the grenade at the hybrid’s face, giving it another nasty burn.Seared by the flames, the Bloated Toadfish backed away to rub its padded feet over its mou

Getting swallowed alive by a mutated toad inside an abandoned sewer wasn’t the way Marlin imagined he would die, but the way things were going, he could see there was no way out of this pickle.“Use another weapon!” the old Gunsmith screamed into Ezra’s ear. “Or just conjure your Shadow Cannon. One fire blast from that ought to roast this toad!”“I can’t use the cannon inside the sewer. The space is too cramped, and I might accidentally trigger an explosion if there are any methane leaks nearby,” Ezra replied, crawling along the ground like a lizard who had just lost his tail.As the effects of the Frost Grenade subsided, the toad started moving normally again. It licked its face with its tongue and launched itself off the ground, powered by its springy legs.“Magic Surge!”Ezra released his charged telekinetic blast just in time to fling the toad away, slamming it into the ceiling.A warning message flashed on Ezra’s system panel.[Magic Power remaining: 50%!][Full passive regenerat

Killing the Bloated Toadfish cleared the sewer of all threats, allowing Ezra a chance to finally catch his breath. Although the healing potion had cured his paralysis and healed his bruises, his clothes remained in tatters. Ezra slowly took off his acid-washed jacket and tossed it away. All he had on his back now was a simple white shirt stained with dirt and grime.Never in his life had Ezra expected he would be fighting mutated monsters inside the sewers, but his search for his mother’s treasure had brought him to the bowels of Magaravia.“That was a really close call. Please try to call your Spectral Companion faster next time!” Marlin butted in, interrupting Ezra’s silent meditation. The fight had taken a tremendous toll on Ezra’s body, and even now, he could feel his legs trembling under him.Ezra took a few minutes to catch his breath before heading over to inspect the amphibian’s rotting corpse. There are no prisoners here.” Ezra tried to resolve issues verbally before resorting to violence. But the hollow knights continued glaring at Ezra without making any response.“It seems like these aren’t intelligent enough to hold a conversation. Servius must have used a low-tier animation spell to create them. These golems are obeying his last command. You cannot convince them to stand down,” Marlin explained to Ezra.“Fine, then. It was my fault for allowing him to lead the charge all alone,” Marquis Desmond responded, his eyes still glued to the bloodstained patch of withered grass where his friend had breathed his last.“They even swallowed the bodies,” one of the paladins mumbled anxiously. The fear soon spread through their ranks, and the rest of the troops became increasingly agitated

  • Bloodbath on the battlefield

Corrupted Slashers stood at the top of the necrophagic hierarchy, and despite being similar to ghouls, they were driven by wild hunger and often could not differentiate between friends and foes.A single Slasher could slaughter an entire village, and only trained Gunners could handle a Slasher prowling among a pack of ghouls. However, these undead monstrosities were rarely found in the open and disliked hunting in groups.Strangely enough, Marquis Desmond could already count fifteen Slashers hiding in the shadows. It was a bizarre occurrence, one that posed a bigger threat than a horde of ghouls."There is too many of them," Marquis Sullivan whispered, furrowing his brow. "They must have been summoned by that necromancer to guard this valley.""Well, Lady Aurelia did say it wasn't going to be a walk in the park," Marquis Desmond responded.Count Gressil, being the most experienced Gunner, rode to the frontlines and prepared to engage the enemy head-on.“I can handle these bastards. The craggy mountains flanking their path watched on like ancient guardians, their ominous cliffs darkening the skyline. The arid path running down the middle was wide enough for troops to pass unhindered, but there was always the danger of being ambushed from the cliffs above. Count Gressil had known this rugged terrain for decades and was no stranger to such tricks. He could sense that the eerie silence pervading the darkness was merely the calm before the storm, and it kept him on his toes.“Never thought I would have to march on Ignar as a foe,” Marquis Sullivan was the first to speak, breathing some comfort into the tense atmosphere. His eyes scanned the cliffs as he continued riding. “I sure am glad we are not fighting elves. Their archers would have picked us off like fish in a barrel from up there.”“We still are sitting ducks until we cross this valley,” Count Gressil r

However, Lorelai’s blood magic had brought the city to its knees in one fell swoop.Despite her unconventional methods, she had succeeded far beyond Malodor’s wildest expectations, and now this great city once known for its values of chivalry and justice was wallowing in darkness, its walls and towers stained with the blood of the innocent.Inside the grand hall of Bloodflame Castle, Lorelai was seated on a bed of blood orchids, surrounded by nine pregnant women bound in dark vines.A clay pot in the middle of the room was gradually filling with bloo

Led by Sir Galahar and his Royal Gunners, the Imperial army had finally arrived at Racinta. The ruined city looked inhospitable, much like the rest of the barren lands around it, but it was much safer to be camping inside Racinta, than resting in the open while the undead were howling in the dark. The dome of holy light shielding the ruined village kept the shadows at bay and allowed the soldiers to finally catch their breaths. They had been marching for two hours now, and even the horses looked tired. But Aurelia knew they had to get moving as soon as possible, or Lorelai could use her blood magic to wreak havoc on them.As the soldiers secured the village and gathered in the middle, Count Gressil lit a bonfire and ordered the men to drink up and recheck their gear.Meanwhile, Sir Galahar instructed two of his most trusted Royal Guards to scout the way ahead and scope out Ignar f

  • Dead men tell no lies

Ezra’s medallion emitted a faint green light, and a cloud of darkness gushed out of its core, taking the shape of a humanoid entity. The Tainted Djinn emerged from the shadows, holding a mystic lantern dangling from rusty iron shackles.“How may I serve you, master?” It asked, bowing its hooded head in submission.Ezra pointed at Malodor’s corpse and replied, “I need to talk to him. Reckon you can arrange a meeting?”“Of course, master. Your wish is my command,” the Djinn replied before moving across the room like a shadow and hovering over Malodor’s lifeless body. It uttered an archaic incantation in its raspy voice and lowered the mystic lantern, allowing its pale green light to illuminate the necromancer’s pale white face.Using its Dark Rite ability, the Tainted Djinn summoned Malodor’s soul before Ezra, binding it to the mystic lantern for a few fleeting seconds.A ghastly gray apparition materialized in front of Ezra, and the air turned cold and arid.“Welcome back, Malodor. • Malodor's Fall

A Gunner with a sword was a rare sight, but Lord Sebastian had trained Ezra to use short swords and sabers at an early age. He wasn’t the best when it came to melee weapons, but the situation left him with little choice.“Please guide my hand, Goddess,” Ezra uttered a faint prayer to the Goddess of knowledge before reaching out for the flaming longsword. As Ezra grabbed its handle and wrapped his fingers around the hilt, the flames rose higher, and the runes carved on its surface pulsed with divine energy. This wasn’t just any enchanted sword, it was one of the five divine weapons wielded by the immortal deities. And right now, this blade had chosen Ezra as its new owner.[Yolen’s Blade equipped successfully!][Magic Power consumed: 5000%!]Just equipping the sword drained Ezra’s magic power by half, but that wasn’t all. The Undead Hydra’s incredible regenerative ability amplified Ezra’s problems, leaving him in a precarious situation. In the sky above, the Crimson Maw was rapidly taking shape, forming itself into a demonic head, and Malodor was still far out of his reach.Realizing that he needed to deal with the hydra as quickly as possible, Ezra reloaded his enchanted minigun with Flame Burst Bullets and fired again, concentrating on the monster’s bloated belly.A blistering volley of fiery explosions lit up the hydra as the flaming rounds seared its dark hide, but the projectiles did not manage to punch through its toughened scales.Ezra rotated the weapon, targeting the softer spots on the hydra’s chest. This time, he succeeded in burning a patch of rotten flesh and leaving a deep scar on the monster’s body. But despite being peppered with a thousand rounds, the hydra refused to go down. Its skin molted, regrowing a new patch of flesh covered with a hardened layer of scales.“What the hell is thi

Staring death in the eye had become a habitual hazard for Ezra by now, but his legs froze as he saw the Undead Hydra’s serpentine head inching toward him. “Not tonight!” Ezra tossed a Shock Grenade at the hydra and jumped back. The blast zapped the oversized head, forcing the hydra to pull its snaking neck back into the green mist and disappear once again.Although the Basilisk’s Toxic Cocoon was shielding Ezra from the hydra’s poisonous breath, he could feel his eyes burning from the smoky haze. It was as if someone had sprayed pepper on his face, and each time he squeezed his eyelids, tears trickled down his face, stinging his skin like needles.Dizzy and disoriented, Ezra looked around frantically, scanning his surroundings for any hint of movement. But everything seemed as still as death, and the hissing noises had ceased as well.“Where the hell are you hiding? Show yourself!” Suddenly, a hydra head appeared from the left and sprayed Ezra with dark fumes. He started coughing fit
