As Ramel’s body collapsed on the snowy ground, Ezra’s fingers trembled, and his eyes moistened. His thirst for revenge had pushed him to pull the trigger without any second thoughts. But now that he saw his brother’s body lying on the ground, it shook him to the core.

Killing monsters had become a chore for Ezra, but taking a human life was different. As he put his sniper away and landed on the ground, he felt a wave of sadness wash over him.

Even though Ramel had betrayed everyone, Ezra could not forget that he had once called him his brother. The memories of those days spent together in training flashed before his eyes, and he felt something tearing him from within.

“Why did you have to side with Zepheroth? Why did you betray us?” Ezra pulled Ramel’s corpse by his collar and interrogated him like a stern jailer. “You were a real Romanov, unlike me. You had Lord Sebastian’s blood flowing through your veins. Yet, you ruined everything!”

Light pierced the blanket of darkness like a heavenly lance, and the night miraculously turned into day, waking the birds from their drowsy nests and dispelling the shadows.Astounded by the miracle he had just witnessed; Glenn raised his arms and praised the Goddess. “Ishani is the only truth. She is our guardian and savior. The loving mother who never abandons her children.”Ezra finally opened his eyes and put the conch away, his face brightened with a smile.“I bet Tanya can do something even better with the relic. Maybe this is the weapon that will turn the tides in our favor.”“Its power is truly divine,” Zala uttered in a feeble voice, his breathing shallow and erratic. “I wish…I had found

But I have never been there. When is the next round?”“It’s scheduled to be held tomorrow and my sources have informed me that Marquis Desmond’s son is among the duelists,” Count Gressil replied on his daughter’s behalf. Ezra had already met Marquis Desmond’s son, Rasher Desmond, and he had come off as a snobbish prick. But he still had no clue about Rasher’s dueling skills.“I met Lord R

Ezra was only a child when Lady Fiona left this world. He only remembered her face in blurry fragments, but her sweet voice was still crystal clear inside his mind. As the cashier led Ezra to the backrooms, his heart yearned to be with his family one last time. At this moment he felt like he could give anything just to meet his parents again.“You know Fiona never told me she had a nephew. But she did talk a lot about her daughter. I think her name was Aurelia. It’s a shame what happened to the Romanovs,” the cashier said as she opened the locker room door and requested Ezra to step inside. The bank had seventy lockers in total, with only three of them belonging to the nobles. Naturally, it roused Ezra’s curiosity.“Who do these other Regal Lockers belong to?” he asked. The cashier turned around and replied, “I am sorry, but we do not share the details of our customers with others. Who did you say you were again?”“My name is Loris Lagerlof,” Ezra replied.“I don’t think you are from

Over the last few days, Ezra had familiarized himself with Magaravia’s streets, and he no longer felt like an outsider. Even Ashton Alley had lost its initial repulsiveness and become a part of his routine visits. However, as the wagon crossed the stone bridge leading out of Bolter Street, the coachman pulled to a grinding halt right at the entrance to the slums. A large crowd of commoners had gathered on the streets, armed with sticks and brooms.“I am sorry, but this is as far as I can go my good sir,” the coachman whispered in a nervous voice. Ezra tossed him a handful of Scepters and stepped down.As the carriage drove away, Ezra approached the mob and tried to get a closer look at things.“I tell you these Blue Caps think they can do anything they want!” a lean middle-aged man dressed in soiled clothes exclaimed.Another raised his axe and yelled angrily. “We should teach them a lesson they will remember for the rest of their lives!”“Yeah! Running a profitable tavern or inn inside a shady alley deep within the slums was an impossible task.Ezra had realized long back that Madam Moonfrey made most of her coin from selling stolen wares and smuggling goods. However, the familiar old faces getting drunk in her establishment at the oddest hours of the day meant that she ran the liquor business as a front for her illegal activities. And judging by her attire and the number of helping hands she had hired, it was clear that she was raking in quite a lot of coin.Ezra had no intention of interfering in her personal affairs or reminding her of her moral obligations, but today’s incident involving the city guard made him suspicious about her true nature of work.As Madam Moonfrey guided Ezra to the bar counter, he looked around suspiciously, trying to find clues that would lead him to the right answers. In the course of his short interaction with Marquis Desmond, if Ezra had learned anything it was that the man was extremely reserved and preferred staying aloof rather than mingling freely with his peers.A connection between the Marquis and a lowly smuggler like Madam Moonfrey seemed highly improbable. But the undeniable proof was right there in Ezra’s hand.“What would you want with a slum-dwelling trinket seller?” Ezra mumbled as he unfolded the letter and held it in front. Corrupted Slashers stood at the top of the necrophagic hierarchy, and despite being similar to ghouls, they were driven by wild hunger and often could not differentiate between friends and foes.A single Slasher could slaughter an entire village, and only trained Gunners could handle a Slasher prowling among a pack of ghouls. However, these undead monstrosities were rarely found in the open and disliked hunting in groups.Strangely enough, Marquis Desmond could already count fifteen Slashers hiding in the shadows. It was a bizarre occurrence, one that posed a bigger threat than a horde of ghouls.Count Gressil, being the most experienced Gunner, rode to the frontlines and prepared to engage the enemy head-on.“I can handle these bastards. Just back me up with cover fire!” he exclaimed, ready to charge ahead. But Marquis Desmond stopped him. “You are the only one who knows the layout of Ignar. We cannot risk your life. Count Gressil led the Imperial forces through the treacherous valley, cautiously observing the surroundings. The craggy mountains flanking their path watched on like ancient beings, their ominous cliffs darkening the skyline. The arid path running down the middle was wide enough for troops to pass unhindered, but there was always the danger of being ambushed from the cliffs above. Count Gressil had known this rugged terrain for decades and was no stranger to such tricks. He could sense that the eerie silence pervading the darkness was merely the calm before the storm, and it kept him on his toes.“Never thought I would have to march on Ignar as a foe,” Marquis Sullivan was the first to speak, breathing some comfort in the tense atmosphere. His eyes scanned the cliffs as he continued riding. “I sure am glad we are not fighting elves. Their archers would have picked us off like fish in a barrel from up there.”“We still are sitting ducks until we cross this valley,” Count Gressil repli

The walled city perched atop the ravenous cliff overlooking the Great Green Sea was a testament to Valaria’s intricate architecture and immense military craftsmanship.Count Gressil had controlled this indomitable city for fifty years, fortifying its defenses and recruiting the best knights and cannoneers to turn this into an infallible stronghold. However, Lorelai’s blood magic had brought the city to its knees in one fell swoop.Despite her unconventional methods, she had succeeded far beyond Malodor’s wildest expectations, and now this great city once known for its values of chivalry and justice was wallowing in darkness, its walls and towers stained with the blood of the innocent.Inside the grand hall of Bloodflame Castle, Lorelai was seated on a bed of blood orchids, surrounded by nine pregnant women bound in dark vines.A clay pot in the middle of the room was gradually filling with blood as

Led by Sir Galahar and his Royal Gunners, the Imperial army had finally arrived at Racinta. The ruined city looked inhospitable, much like the rest of the barren lands around it, but it was much safer to be camping inside Racinta, than resting in the open while the undead were howling in the dark. The dome of holy light shielding the ruined village kept the shadows at bay and allowed the soldiers to finally catch their breaths. They had been marching for two hours now, and even the horses looked tired. But Aurelia knew they had to get moving as soon as possible, or Lorelai could use her blood magic to wreak havoc on them.As the soldiers secured the village and gathered in the middle, Count Gressil lit a bonfire and ordered the men to drink up and recheck their gear.Meanwhile, Sir Galahar instructed two of his most trusted Royal Guards to scout the way ahead and scope out Ignar

  • Dead men tell no lies

Ezra’s medallion emitted a faint green light, and a cloud of darkness gushed out of its core, taking the shape of a humanoid entity. The Tainted Djinn emerged from the shadows, holding a mystic lantern dangling from rusty iron shackles.“How may I serve you, master?” It asked, bowing its hooded head in submission.Ezra pointed at Malodor’s corpse and replied, “I need to talk to him. Reckon you can arrange a meeting?”“Of course, master. Your wish is my command,” the Djinn replied before moving across the room like a shadow and hovering over Malodor’s lifeless body. It uttered an archaic incantation in its raspy voice and lowered the mystic lantern, allowing its pale green light to illuminate the necromancer’s pale white face.Using its Dark Rite ability, the Tainted Djinn summoned Malodor’s soul before Ezra, binding it to the mystic lantern for a few fleeting seconds.A ghastly gray apparition materialized in front of Ezra, and the air turned cold and arid.“Welcome back, Malodor. • Malodor's Fall

A Gunner with a sword was a rare sight, but Lord Sebastian had trained Ezra to use short swords and sabers at an early age. He wasn’t the best when it came to melee weapons, but the situation left him with little choice.“Please guide my hand, Goddess,” Ezra uttered a faint prayer to the Goddess of knowledge before reaching out for the flaming longsword. As Ezra grabbed its handle and wrapped his fingers around the hilt, the flames rose higher, and the runes carved on its surface pulsed with divine energy. This wasn’t just any enchanted sword, it was one of the five divine weapons wielded by the immortal deities. And right now, this blade had chosen Ezra as its new owner.[Yolen’s Blade equipped successfully!][Magic Power consumed: 5000%!]Just equipping the sword drained Ezra’s magic power by half, but that wasn’t all. Each second he held onto the blade it continued draining a portion of his magic power, draining his energy at an alarming rate.Ezra took a deep breath and grabbed th

The Undead Hydra’s incredible regenerative ability amplified Ezra’s problems, leaving him in a precarious situation. In the sky above, the Crimson Maw was rapidly taking shape, forming itself into a demonic head, and Malodor was still far out of his reach.Realizing that he needed to deal with the hydra as quickly as possible, Ezra reloaded his enchanted minigun with Flame Burst Bullets and fired again, concentrating on the monster’s bloated belly.A blistering volley of fiery explosions lit up the hydra as the flaming rounds seared its dark hide, but the projectiles did not manage to punch through its toughened scales.Ezra rotated the weapon, targeting the softer spots on the hydra’s chest. This time, he succeeded in burning a patch of rotten flesh and leaving a deep scar on the monster’s body. But despite being peppered with a thousand rounds, the hydra refused to go down. Its skin molted, regrowing a new patch of flesh covered with a hardened layer of scales.“What the hell is th

Staring death in the eye had become a habitual hazard for Ezra by now, but his legs froze as he saw the Undead Hydra’s serpentine head inching toward him. “Not tonight!” Ezra tossed a Shock Grenade at the hydra and jumped back. The blast zapped the oversized head, forcing the hydra to pull its snaking neck back into the green mist and disappear once again.Although the Basilisk’s Toxic Cocoon was shielding Ezra from the hydra’s poisonous breath, he could feel his eyes burning from the smoky haze. It was as if someone had sprayed pepper on his face, and each time he squeezed his eyelids, tears trickled down his face, stinging his skin like needles.Dizzy and disoriented, Ezra looked around frantically, scanning his surroundings for any hint of movement. But everything seemed as still as death, and the hissing noises had ceased as well.“Where the hell are you hiding? Show yourself!” Suddenly, a hydra head appeared from the left and sprayed Ezra with dark fumes. He started coughing fi

  • Hydra's Breath

Ezra was so focused on stopping Malodor’s demonic spell that he had forgotten all about the hydra. But now that the monster had emerged from its dark lair, there was no way forward without slaying it first.“I sure am glad we aren’t fighting it inside its underwater cave,” Marlin whispered in his cold voice, his cursed eye glued to the hydra. “But it’s still going to be one hell of a battle.”The Undead Hydra glared at Ezra, its five vicious heads bobbing up and down as long forked tongues slithered out of its mouths. It was a gigantic monster covered in slimy gray scales and patches of rotting skin infested with maggots.“How the hell is that thing even alive?” Ezra questioned, unable to comprehend how this monstrosity was still standing even though its rotting flesh was covered in thousands of open wounds and deep scars.“You know they call it an Undead Hydra for a reason,” Marlin whispered back. “I am quite sure Malodor resurrected a dead hydra with his dark magic and cursed it to
