A well-fed army was a happy army, and this was especially true for these Imperial Troops who had never gone without a meal in years.

King Reginald had never marched his soldiers out of Magaravia, even for scouting missions. Most of the rebellions were suppressed by Count Gressil and his Elite Knights, while the Gunners from Dragon Claw were tasked with handling the rogue sorcerers and monsters.

Marquis Desmond knew that these greenhorns had probably never endured the harsh conditions of war, and the psychological stress of watching their brothers die in battle was already starting to get inside their heads and manifest in the form of jitters and night terrors.

To ease their problems, Marquis Desmond ordered all foot soldiers to move into the nearest lodgings and rest for the night. The warm food was just what they needed to get them going, and Count Gressil threw in some of his old wine from the castle’s special cellar.

Ezra’s cry for help prompted the patrolling cavaliers to rush to his aid. They were soon joined by one of the only healers who had survived Lorelai’s slaughter. The old healer was blind in his left eye and walked with a slight limp. “What ails this poor soul? It seems like a malady of the humors,” he mumbled in a croaking voice. As the healer hobbled toward the scout convulsing on the ground, Aurelia rushed in to stop him.“Stop right there! Don’t get too close!” she shouted him down. The old man shivered as Aurelia’s booming voice pierced his ears. He stopped a dozen feet away, his bony legs trembling under him.“My…Lady, I can help this man. I might look old, but I am a trained healer. My knowledge of the various herbs, potions, salves, and tinctures can cure not just the diseases of nature but the disorders of the mind and disabilities of the body as well,” the old man went off into a senile rant. “You know I was trained by one of the finest—”“I am sure you can heal the sick and i

Riding out into the night was never a good idea when dealing with the undead, but the arrival of the Plague Bearer forced their hand.Ezra and Aurelia ditched the armored stallions, choosing fresh mares instead to cover the ground quickly and move without stirring up a storm. It had been many months since Ezra had ridden with a partner, and with Aurelia by his side, he felt confident of tackling any danger that lay ahead.“It’s good to ride with you again after so long. Just like old times,” Ezra said as he spurred his horse while keeping his eyes peeled for any signs of decay.Aurelia chuckled back at him. “You know this reminds me of your first mission for Dragon Claw. That night, we were hunting a Night Walker, and this time it’s a Plague Bearer.”“Not much has changed I suppose. The same old undead as always,” Ezra huffed, his voice rife with irritation.Aurelia, however, saw the funny side. “I would not say nothing has changed. You have climbed the ranks quite quickly. Now, you ar

  • Reincarnated in another world with a Gunsmithing System   The Plague Bearer

Ezra pulled out his damned shotgun and set out on the snaking path, guided by Aurelia’s spectral angel. Novara's holy aura pushed back the shadows, illuminating the immediate surroundings, but the distant trees still remained in complete darkness. The shadow Ezra had spotted amidst the trees had disappeared without a trace, but the trail of decay lingered on, helping them track their elusive prey.Hunting a Plague Bearer in the dead of the night in the middle of a rotting forest was a fool’s gambit, but for Ezra and Aurelia, there was no alternative. Since the Plague Bearer had already started corrupting the lands around Ignar and infected so many beasts and birds nearby, it was dangerous to let the creature roam free for too long.Three scouts and an unwitting physician had already died from the Rotting Plague, and there was no telling how many more would get infected if things were not handled at once. The deeper they ventured into the forest, the gloomier it got, and the air reeked

A Gunner without magic was nothing more than an ordinary gunslinger. Despite having access to some of the most powerful enchanted firearms, Ezra had no way to fire enchanted bullets without using magic power. The Plague Bearer towered over Ezra, its branch-like arms hanging loosely by its side as a slimy green liquid dripped incessantly from its mouth. Ezra knew he could not rely on his damned shotgun any longer since he was all out of magic power, so he quickly switched to his father’s enchanted musket.Equipping the Gremlin Silver-barreled Musket, Ezra fired a steel pellet at the Plague Bearer. The round pierced its chest, puncturing one of its many swollen blisters.A stream of putrid yellow bile oozed from the Plague Bearer’s bullet wound as it grumbled like an ancient troll. But the shot had barely scratched the surface.Raising its enormous arms, the Plague Bearer let out a hollow growl. As its guttural cry echoed through the forest, it attracted all the wrong kind of attention.

  • Reincarnated in another world with a Gunsmithing System   The Plague Bearer (3)

The Plague Bearer thumped across the forest, belching and spreading its filth all around it. The forest reeked like a morgue and the air was heavy with the stench of rotting leaves.Ezra knew he had to play his cards right if he wanted to have any chance of surviving this encounter. The only thing preventing Ezra from turning into a disease-ridden corpse was the Elder Blood potion he had just consumed. But with his magic power completely drained, he had very few options at his disposal. The Bile Pods clustered behind the log cabin blocked Ezra’s path. If he tried to run through them, they would burst open, delivering a fatal dose of necro spores.Standing behind the cabin seemed like a safer choice for now, but the Rot Vines creeping along the forest floor were sure to latch onto him if he stayed there for too long.Ezra thought on his feet and decided to do something unexpected. As the Plague Bearing trudged across the forest with killing intent, Ezra peeked from the opposite corner o

Ezra breathed a sigh of relief as the Plague Bearer’s curse was lifted, allowing him to access his skills again. His magic power quickly surged and reached its threshold as his body absorbed the magic energy from the fallen enemy.Although the grueling encounter had finally ended, Aurelia was still missing.Ezra put his musket away and equipped his damned shotgun in one hand, and pulled out a Dark Sight potion with the other. The overhanging canopy of sickly green leaves blocked all moonlight, turning the heart of the forest into a pit of darkness. Despite the potion empowering his sight, Ezra could only hazily make out the shapes standing in the distance.“Aurelia, can you hear me?” he shouted at the top of his lungs. “Where are you, sister?”But instead of any replies, only his own voice echoed back.Ezra trudged through the darkness, blasting his way through the tangled mass of Rot Vines and withered branches blocking his path. Ezra’s whole world crumbled before his eyes as Aurelia’s words shook the ground beneath his feet. He had already lost her once and promised himself that he would never let any harm befall her under his watch again.“Leave me and go!” Aurelia insisted, her voice turning raspier with each passing second. She looked old and haggard now. It was as if someone had heaped their twilight years upon her and compelled her to carry the burdens of their past.“Don’t just stand there, brother. Get back…to Ignar.” Aurelia’s words sounded groggy and mangled this time. She was trying her best to fight the corruption, but the Plague Bearer’s spores had already started germinating within her and poisoning her mind.Looking at his sister, Ezra was reminded of his father’s death. Even back then he was forced to watch as a silent spectator while they shot Lord Sebastian.“Listen to…me,” Aurelia whimpered, holding on to the last remnant of her humanity. “I don’t have much time. Despite losing many men to Lorelai's blood magic, Marquis Desmond had entered Ignar with a sizeable force. However, the sudden appearance of the Plague Bearer had dealt a crippling blow to their forces. Those who had come into direct contact with the infected scouts or their belongings had contracted the Rotting Plague and died within minutes of each. Meanwhile, the troops who drank the contaminated water were suffering from necrotic rot and black fever.Marquis Desmond had a dismal look on his face. He knew that with their current forces, they barely had enough strength to attack a small village, let alone lay siege to a modern city like Stonewell.“I am sorry, but our forces are stretched too thin. We entered Ignar with three thousand soldiers, but now only a thousand are in marching condition. The rest are either dead or sick with black fever. There is no way they can fight,” Marquis Desmond informed Ezra and Aurelia. “Did you consult the healers and priests?” Aurelia asked.“I did

Their jaws snapped and ripped his jacket to tatters as they continued harassing him.“I would love to end your life in a heartbeat, but my pets enjoy playing with their food,” Vorus chuckled from afar as he waited for the wyverns to rip Ezra apart, bit by bit.But instead of cowering before the chaos, Ezra stood tall like an immovable fortress with his feet firmly planted on a floating obsidian platform that drifted through the space. With a bone-chilling shriek, the wyverns finally dived down with killing intent.“Dark Surge!” Ezra clenched his fist and shouted wi

With half his face obscured by the shadows, he whispered in a cold, unfeeling voice, “I need you to tell me something, Lord Ezra. Was it all worth it? Is this what you had hoped for?”The winds howled around the dark shrine as Vorus raised his crooked finger, lifting Ezra higher and tightening his grip on his shackled body.“Answer me, my Lord. Did Ishani help you vanquish the darkness? Do you still believe in her light, or has your faith finally deserted you?” he hissed like a viper coiled inside a dark pit. Ezra clenched his fist and parted his lips to speak. “You haven’t won yet…and you never will.”Vorus’ face darkened, and his eyes gleamed with all the malice festering inside his soul. “So…defiant. Lord Lucius breathed a sigh of relief but still kept his sniper trained on Ezra. “You know, the good ones don’t always win. This is a cruel and unfair world. But at least you tried,” Lester scoffed in his arrogant voice as his war axe grated against the wet floor like a long-handed scythe. “Your father was too self-righteous for his own good. He should have just taken the hint and stepped down while he had the chance. It would have certainly saved us all the trouble of killing him.”Those cruel words stung Ezra’s heart. Once again, he was reminded of that fateful day when he had lost everything. But instead of lashing out and cursing Lester, he remained as calm as a monk.“My father trusted you. We thought you actually cared about the people of Aranor. But you really just care about filling your own pockets,” he spoke in a cold, emotionless voice.Lester chuckled and grabbed his war axe with both hands, raising it above his head. Ishani has abandoned our world,” Marquis Desmond spoke in a cold voice, his eyes glued to the colossal brute glaring at them.“Run back!”“We can’t kill that thing!”“Move!”Panicked voices rang out across the battlefield as the Imperial Swordsmen ran back, fleeing from what looked like certain death.Swish! The Primal Demon swung its burning meat cleaver, slashing a wide arc through the terror-stricken crowd and slicing the swordsmen in half.Blood and guts splashed out in the air as horrified screams echoed into the night. • All hell breaks loose

Outside the walls of Stonewell, the Imperial Army was nearly spent from the endless fighting. The ghouls and resurrected skeletons kept coming even as the soldiers killed them in hundreds. “I don’t think we can hold them back much longer,” Marquis Desmond relayed in his hoarse voice, his throat sore from shouting commands and organizing his troops. “These things just keep coming. There is no end to their numbers.”“Don’t give up just yet. Ezra needs us to hold the line and keep them distracted,” Aurelia replied, firing a firebolt from her musket. It burned through five packs of ghouls infront and cleared a path to the Infernal Gates. “Those Lich Kings are doing all the summoning. If we kill them, there will be no one left to raise the dead again.”“The problem is getting close to them,” Count Gressil said, riding down from the frontlines. “We tried shooting at them, but they are protected by unholy barriers. Not even my enchanted bullets could get through.”While the three of them wer
