Ezra was quite happy with his purchase although the price seemed a bit steep. However, his thoughts were still drifting toward the enchanted weapons the merchant was so unwilling to sell.

“You said the enchanted firearms you have are a gift for someone. Mind telling me who they’re for?” Ezra enquired, expecting the merchant to loosen his tongue now that he had become a paying customer.

Kung Lee however frowned at this question. “That is none of your business, young one. If you’re done shopping, you may leave.”

“Your arrogance will come back to bite you someday. I am Lord Ezra Romanov, and you are a foreigner in Aranor,” Ezra stated, staring daggers at the merchant.

“I have the protection of the merchants’ guild, and you are not the only noble who is interested in my wares,” Kung Lee replied with an air of condescension. “I only decided to entertain you because you were a guest of Mr. Yarpin, but I really detest your company. Now leave before I get sick of staring at your deformed f

The siblings studied the map one last time and discussed their strategy with Ivan before exiting the miners’ guild and heading for the Kasari coal mine. Since the mine was located far from the residential areas, the news of the monster attacks hadn’t spread across Aranor. However, the recent death of one of the miners had already been reported to the town guards. “We have to kill the monster before the guards show up, or they will ruin everything,” Aurelia said as they neared the mine entrance. “I’ll prepare the bait. Take your time and double-check your weapons and items,” she said, turning to Ezra. While Aurelia worked on the straw dummy, Ezra swiped up to access his inventory and check the items he had on him. [Inventory:] [Weapons available:] [1. Rodel Gray-back six-shot revolver (enchanted).] [2. Larkin and Hops five-shot compact revolver (basic).] ..... [Potions available:] [1. Greater magic restoration potions (10).] [2. Greater healing potions (9).] [3. Solaris Vit

As Ezra peeked around the corner and fixed his eyes on the monster, his system panel flickered into life, highlighting a new objective. [New shooting objective acquired: Kill the Heragore without taking any damage.] Ezra watched as the Heragore pinned the straw dummy to the ground and started ripping out its innards using its razor-sharp claws. The monster voraciously devoured the raw sausages stuffed inside the dummy, paying no heed to its surroundings. “It’s distracted. Now’s our chance!” Aurelia vaulted over the mining cart and fired her weapon. The magic bullet struck the Heragore in the head, putting out one of its eyes. As blood trickled down its wounded face, the Heragore shrieked in pain and backed away from the dummy. Ezra quickly sprung out of cover and fired at the monster before it could make a move. However, all the magic bullets fired from his Larkin and Hops five-shot revolver missed the target as his hand swayed from side to side. Ezra’s trembling fingers made it

Ezra breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed the grip on his revolver. Shoving his enchanted weapon back inside his jacket, he walked up to the Heragore to confirm it was actually dead. Suddenly, a floating blue disc appeared in front of Ezra, and the pupil of his left eye widened, allowing him to view a magnified version of the disc. [New magic skill unlocked:] [1. Eagle Eye (level 1) (passive): Whenever the user encounters any hostile creature, the Eagle Eye skill allows him to analyze the enemy and learn more about it. This skill does not drain magic power and can be used multiple times without any penalties.] “That seems like a useful skill to have. I guess I am finally unlocking my true potential as an E-level shooter,” Ezra spoke to himself, but Marlin could not help but overhear it. “A bit hard to believe, isn’t it?” the Gunsmith taunted. “Who would have thought you could take on a Heragore all by yourself?” “I didn’t do it alone. Now just go away.” Ezra rushed to Aurelia’s

Ramel had already returned home in the evening with a positive reply from the adventurers’ guild. And seeing that his siblings hadn’t come back yet, he had even insisted on going out to look for them, but Lord Sebastian had denied his request. This little victory had pleased Ramel immensely. He was now thoroughly under the impression that he was the best when it came to political negotiations and forging alliances. Lord Sebastian however, knew that nothing could be further from the truth. Having thanked his son, he had sent him off to his room so that he could spend the rest of the night freely. When Ezra and Aurelia finally returned it was already past nine. Lord Sebastian was pacing the hallway when he saw Aurelia entering with something hanging from her hand. “What took you so long? And what is that thing you’re—” Lord Sebastian stopped midway as Aurelia placed the Heragore’s severed head on the wooden table. “This one was hiding in the Kasari mine, so we decided to help the mi

  • Reincarnated in another world with a Gunsmithing System    A customized weapon

Though Lord Sebastian was happy that his son had learned to move on, Ezra’s unusual request confused both Ramel and Aurelia. “You could have asked for anything, but you always make the stupidest of choices,” Ramel muttered under his breath. “What kind of a magic user needs a Gunsmithing workbench? It’s as if an idiot like you could ever craft anything useful.” Ramel knew that Gunsmithing was an incredibly difficult craft, and only a handful of people could manage to assemble a functioning firearm. In his mind, there was no way a cripple like Ezra could even repair a gun, let alone build one from scratch. Even Aurelia could not help but wonder what was going on in Ezra’s mind, but she was happy to support his decision even if wasn’t a conventional choice. *** After a light supper, Ezra went back to his room and immediately began treating his hands using the Eastern herbs the Arch Maester had prescribed. As Ezra dipped his hands into the sacred waters drawn from the fountain of E

Ezra was thrilled to level up so quickly. Not only had he advanced to a level E Gunsmith, but also acquired a new Gunsmithing skill. The enchanted six-shooter now looked a lot different from the one the Rodels had brought for him. The customized grip added a smoky white coloration to it and made it stand out from an ordinary revolver. Although the glyphs remained engraved on the revolver, they glowed much brighter than before. Even the mid-section of the gun looked different due to the addition of a new cylinder. “The notched ebony grip will make it easier for you to hold the weapon with trembling hands, and it will help you handle the recoil much better as well,” Marlin explained, while Ezra continued gazing at the modified revolver. “What about the cylinder?” he asked. “The swing-out cylinder will allow you to reload six bullets simultaneously into your revolver instead of restocking them one by one. This will cut down your reloading time in half,” Marlin replied. “These might

  • Reincarnated in another world with a Gunsmithing System   The lost art of enchanting

The town of Aranor was a melting pot of different cultures and traditions where non-humans existed peacefully with the humans. However, not everyone was happy to have dwarves and merfolk living alongside them. Most nobles and middle-class merchants were repulsed by the merfolk and viewed the dwarves as their inferiors. Due to this clash of mentalities, it was impossible to gather them at the same table for any kind of discussion. Lord Sebastian knew about these racial prejudices, and to avoid any kind of conflict, he had chosen to invite the dwarves to lunch while the merchants and adventurers were asked to join him for dinner. Since the Romanovs were one of the only families of nobles in Valaria to treat the dwarves as equals, it was easy for Lord Sebastian to win over the miners without any bargaining. Ivan readily agreed to support him in the next patriarchal election and even promised to cut all ties with the Rodels. The easy part was over, but the real challenge still lay ahea

Aurelia welcomed Yarpin with kind words and took him to the table where the maids and attendants had already laid the silverware and were waiting with towels and kerchiefs. The guild master of the adventurers’ guild walked up the stairs with a resolute air and greeted Lord Sebastian with a half-bow. “Welcome to our humble home, Black Viper,” Lord Sebastian said, greeting the adventurer with a firm handshake before pulling him into an embrace. “It’s good to see you haven’t let the years catch up to you, Lord Sebastian. And please, you may call me by my real name. Only the commoners and rookies call me Black Viper,” the man replied. “Very well, Lester,” Lord Sebastian replied with a polite smile. As Lester let go of Lord Sebastian’s hand, he immediately turned his gaze to Ezra. “I was there at the training arena. You tried well, boy. There’s no shame in failing.” Ezra did not understand whether Lester was trying to genuinely sympathize with him or further rub salt into his wounds.

An eerie green portal opened overhead, emitting a pale green aura.“Watch out!” Ezra warned as a thousand poison-tipped arrows rained down from the sky, peppering the valley like hailstones.“Sacred Protection!” Aurelia snapped her fingers, activating her spectral angel’s defensive ability to shield herself and Ezra under a dome of holy light. The arrows bounced harmlessly off the barrier, keeping them unharmed. But Yelaine reached into his quiver again and pulled out another enchanted arrow. This time, the ghastly elf shot a binding arrow at the blindfolded angel, shackling its spectral form in magic chains.Aurelia was forced to recall her Spectral Companion back into its relic as it burst into sparks.“This guy is not playing around. • The elven apparition

Even a few months ago, just the thought of encountering a malevolent apparition would have given Ezra, but his recent brush with the banshees and spectral wraiths had driven all his fears away.Ezra wasn’t worried about facing this fabled elven marksman, but his sister’s safety remained his top concern. Though Aurelia was an experienced Gunner, and had a spectral angel at her side, she was still all alone on the ground, deep behind enemy territory.“I would advise you to forget the valley and try a different route. Perhaps the desert path would be a better option,” Marlin suggested.“I can handle this elven marksman. I am not afraid of some damn ghost. Besides, we have already lost too much time. We cannot afford to change plans now,” Ezra replied with absolute conviction, his open eye glued to the elven apparition. What bothered Ezra wasn’t just the appearance of this unknown spectral entity, but the four Wandering Stones all across the valley. • The Corrupted Valley

Killing the undead had become almost like a habit for Ezra. He could wipe out a horde of ghouls or skeletal warriors even with his eyes closed. However, the corrupted elves presented a different kind of challenge. On the one hand, there was the moral implication of committing genocide against the last elven tribes, while on the other, it was another needless waste of time and resources.Ezra knew that he could not command the Imperial Army to fight the elves, or their already dwindling morale would take a greater hit. Besides, he still hadn’t figured out what kind of magic was flowing out of the Wandering Stones.“Alright, here is the plan. We are going to handle things quietly in here. Our goal is to get close to the Wandering Stones and try to disrupt the spell cast by Vorus,” he whispered to Aurelia while keeping his eyes on the elven congregation. “I will try to distract the elves. But you need to be my eyes on the ground. If you can use your spectral angel to purify the Wandering

All they needed to do was follow the dirt road.Aurelia glanced at her pocket watch as they stopped to survey their surroundings. It was almost half past five, and the sky still looked as gloomy as before. The winter sun never appeared on the horizon, even as the minutes rolled by in a hurry.“I thought we disrupted the dark spells. Why is the sun still not out?” Aurelia whispered, sticking close to her brother.Ezra looked at the sky, and something in the distance caught his attention. It was a beam of crimson light shooting into the sky and spearing through the dark clouds.“I think that might be the answer to your question. Look over there, sis,” Ezra said, gesturing at the blood-red aura leaking into the darkness.“What the hell is going on here? Is that another dark spell?” Aurelia asked, staring at the c

  • Envoy to the elven tribes

The last human envoy sent to the free elves of the valley had never returned to civilization. Some spies claimed the messenger was ambushed by the Wind Runners and captured as a prisoner, while other sources said the Thousand Arrows assassinated him on his way back.Although none could verify the claims or substantiate the rumors with hard evidence, the courtiers had unanimously decided to leave the free elves alone and stay clear of their homes. In his previous life as a high school student, Ezra was fond of nature documentaries and spent a considerable amount of time watching videos of uncontacted tribes. While things were a bit different in this world, he was convinced these elves living so far away from civilization would have their own primitive customs and traditions.“I wish we knew someone who has actually spent time among these tribal elves,” Ezra said, pouring over the map.“Well, there are plenty of elves living in Magaravia. But I doubt anyone would know much about the fre

However, the sudden appearance of the Plague Bearer had dealt a crippling blow to their forces. Those who had come into direct contact with the infected scouts or their belongings had contracted the Rotting Plague and died within minutes of each. Meanwhile, the troops who drank the contaminated water were suffering from necrotic rot and black fever.Marquis Desmond had a dismal look on his face. He knew that with their current forces, they barely had enough strength to attack a small village, let alone lay siege to a modern city like Stonewell.“I am sorry, but our forces are stretched too thin. We entered Ignar with three thousand soldiers, but now only a thousand are in marching condition. The rest are either dead or sick with black fever. There is no way they can fight,” Marquis Desmond informed Ezra and Aurelia. “Did you consult the healers and priests?” Aurelia asked.“I di

  • Death is a mercy

Ezra’s whole world crumbled before his eyes as Aurelia’s words shook the ground beneath his feet. He had already lost her once and promised himself that he would never let any harm befall her under his watch again.“Leave me and go!” Aurelia insisted, her voice turning raspier with each passing second. She looked old and haggard now. It was as if someone had heaped their twilight years upon her and compelled her to carry the burdens of their past.“Don’t just stand there, brother. Get back…to Ignar.” Aurelia’s words sounded groggy and mangled this time. She was trying her best to fight the corruption, but the Plague Bearer’s spores had already started germinating within her and poisoning her mind.Looking at his sister, Ezra was reminded of his father’s death. Even back then he was forced to watch as a silent spectator while they shot Lord Sebastian.“Listen to…me,” Aurelia whimpered, holding on to the last remnant of her humanity. “I don’t have much time. Despite the potion empowering his sight, Ezra could only hazily make out the shapes standing in the distance.“Aurelia, can you hear me?” he shouted at the top of his lungs. “Where are you, sister?”But instead of any replies, only his own voice echoed back.Ezra trudged through the darkness, blasting his way through the tangled mass of Rot Vines and withered branches blocking his path.
