The elf’s words painted a completely different picture of Valaria than what Ezra was used to. Every history book he had ever read described the lifelong enmity between the elves and the humans and how the first kings had fought tooth and nail to defend their cities from the elven invaders.

There had never been a time when the humans and elves weren’t engaged in a bloody war, and King Rudeus and his ancestors had fought countless battles to push the elven armies back and reclaim the lands from the elven rulers.

However, after the last Great War that had lasted twenty years, the elves signed a peace treaty with the humans and promised to stay away from the major settlements.

A hundred years had passed since the last conflict, and now King Reginald Aubrey followed a policy of appeasement to establish friendly relations with the elves. Though the old elven royals still harbored hatred against the humans, a few new bloods had started mingling with humans and living alongside them.

The Blood Orchid was the main residential zone of Galladrium where most of the city's population lived. It was spaciously organized with small cottages, towering basilicas, grand wooden taverns as well as small stone cottages with thatched roofs. As Ezra looked around, his eyes fell on the statues of the elven mages flanking the courtyard in front, and it confirmed Ardryll’s story.Even the mixed architecture consisting of brick houses with rectangular windows and towering skyscrapers with wooden canopies seemed to suggest that this city was indeed inhabited by a diverse population consisting of both elves and humans. Before taking his next step, Ezra opened his inventory and tapped on the Atlas of Altamir. A magical map appeared before him, highlighting the three rings inside Galladrium and pointing out all the places of interest within the city. The lake named ‘Loseth Arela’ was located on the other side of the Blood Orchid ring, just beyond the sacred elven shrine of the Forest Godd

  • Reincarnated in another world with a Gunsmithing System   Treasures of the Lost Museum

Ezra wasn’t the first treasure hunter who had tried to get inside the Lost Museum. Dark Elves from distant lands, orcish mercenaries hired by the wealthiest nobles, and even human adventurers had sought the relics preserved behind the doors of this ancient monument. However, only a few ever managed to get inside, and even those who passed the first trial eventually fell into the death trap waiting on the other side.Marlin, being the more reasonable one, did his best to dissuade Ezra, but his mind was made up the moment he laid eyes on the three yellow dots glowing on the map.Instead of turning back, Ezra confronted the guards and proceeded to ask his first question.“Did Zepheroth destroy the city of Galladrium?”In response, the guards stood silently without moving an inch.“What the hell is wrong with you two?” Ezra questioned in an agitated voice. “Why don’t you answer me?”He waited for a few more minutes, but neither of the guards opened their lips. They remained motionless wit

Ezra’s decision to get into the museum had proved to be a dangerous one, but now that he was already inside the exhibition hall, there was no turning back.Surrounded by hidden spike traps, Ezra felt like he was standing in the middle of a minefield. The only respite was that he still had his feet on firm ground. However, taking the next step was his biggest challenge.Ezra carefully studied the tiles around him, trying his best to identify a pattern that might reveal which ones had spike traps under them. But no matter how many times he looked at each tile, he could not find any clues which would lead him in the right direction. All the tiles had the same pattern on them and only differed in size. At a glance, it was impossible to tell which ones were safe to step on and which ones would collapse. While Ezra had his eyes glued to the floor, Marlin was looking elsewhere. A sudden sparkle in the gunsmith's cursed eye suggested that he had discovered something useful.“You are looking i

Once Ezra picked up the sniper rifle, a secret corridor opened on his left. As he walked down the narrow path, it led him to an arched stone gateway filled with bright blue smoke.“I must say you have surpassed my expectations!” Ardryll’s familiar voice lauded Ezra’s success. He turned around, hoping to meet the elf’s apparition again, but there was no one standing behind him.“I may not be beside you, but my eyes see everything,” the elf whispered from some unseen corner. “Step into the gateway, and it will lead you back to the main street. We call them Warp Gates. They cut down on traveling time and are immensely useful when you are carrying heavy weights. I promise you will get used to them in no time.”“Sounds awfully convenient,” Marlin mocked. It was clear from his tone that he wasn’t too eager to trust the elf’s words.Ardryll had already noticed the eye on Ezra’s hand but hadn’t been able to put his finger on things until now. Hearing another man’s voice cleared his confusion.

  • Reincarnated in another world with a Gunsmithing System   An enchanted companion

Artificial constructs were the most versatile magical companions a person could ask for. Though initially only mages and sorcerers could summon them and give them commands, gradually several methods were discovered to allow others to enlist their aid as well. The five lifeless constructs standing before Ezra were from a long-forgotten era and looked nothing like the modern elemental golems and mechanical sentries he had seen in Valaria. The rock golem had been assembled using different types of boulders and enchanting them with magic. It had a rotund belly and large gray arms composed of heavy rocks and flat pebbles that formed its fingers. In the middle of the golem’s chest was a large cubical hollow enchanted with magic runes. The treant looked like an ancient oak tree that had uprooted itself and shed most of its leaves. It was similar to the Forest Guardians in some ways but seemed far sturdier and resilient.Just like the Rock Golem, the Primordial Treant also had a hollow core en

In just two hours Ezra had managed to infiltrate the ruined city and make his way into the heart of the Blood Orchid. But the real challenge lay on the other side. Not many would think about scouring the ruins of the Blood Orchid all alone, but Ezra had braved the dangers and used his wits to outsmart the challenges. And now that he had a mechanical sentry protecting him, it allowed him to ease his nerves.Navigating through the rubble which consisted of remnants of crumbling pillars and floating pavilions, Ezra made his way through the deserted streets and eventually reached a wooden suspension bridge that connected the residential zone to the hallowed ground where the city’s holy lake was located.Loseth Arela was an enchanted lake whose waters were rumored to have magical properties. The people of Valaria believed that taking a dip in this holy lake could heal the mind and cleanse one’s sins, helping them get rid of all vices.A thousand years ago it would have been a common chore t

Marlin watched as the sentry flew away and disappeared amidst the clouds.“Do you really think that flying junk even understands what a gravity-disrupting relic looks like?” he asked in an incredulous tone. “What made you think that a dumb golem can accomplish such a task?”“It’s not a golem. That thing is a magic-powered robot,” Ezra replied. “I can bet you a thousand sovereigns that a mechanical sentry is a lot smarter than any other elemental constructs.”While Ezra and Marlin were debating about the merits and demerits of relying on machines, the sentry flew over the holy lake and sped up using its support thruster. When it reached the last wall protecting the inner ring, it had a clear view of the whole city. This elevated position allowed it to easily scan the ruins below and search for the relic Ezra had mentioned.Since the Solar Defender was the most advanced mechanical sentry ever built, it was equipped with an echo scanner that could analyze objects behind walls and ascerta

  • Reincarnated in another world with a Gunsmithing System   Vanquishing the Vengeful

The Vengeful Spirits crowded onto the shores of Loseth Arela like shadows from some lightless world. And as they closed in on Ezra, the sky overhead turned dark.Ezra and his sentry companion stood with their backs toward each other to eliminate any blind spots and keep the spirits in their sights at all times.“Threat detected! Preparing to eliminate hostiles...” The sentry flew up and launched a missile strike, targeting the shadows in the outer periphery of the ever-tightening ring.Schwoo! Boom!A cluster of explosions ripped through the plateau, leaving a massive crater in its wake. But the blasts did not kill a single spirit. The shadows remained completely unharmed.“Physical attacks do not work against spirits!” Ezra shouted to his sentry. “Only magic and holy spells can harm them!”Ezra equipped his Hodgson submachine gun and reloaded it with magic bullets. Stepping away from the advancing shadows, he fired upon them. The magic bullets punched holes into the shadows, causing

  • All hell breaks loose

Outside the walls of Stonewell, the Imperial Army was nearly spent from the endless fighting. The ghouls and resurrected skeletons kept coming even as the soldiers killed them in hundreds. “I don’t think we can hold them back much longer,” Marquis Desmond relayed in his hoarse voice, his throat sore from shouting commands and organizing his troops. “These things just keep coming. There is no end to their numbers.”“Don’t give up just yet. Ezra needs us to hold the line and keep them distracted,” Aurelia replied, firing a firebolt from her musket. It burned through five packs of ghouls and cleared a path to the Infernal Gates. “Those Lich Kings are doing all the summoning. If we kill them, there will be no one left to raise the dead again.”“The problem is getting close to them,” Count Gressil said, riding down from the frontlines. “We tried shooting at them, but they are protected by unholy barriers. Not even my enchanted bullets could get through.”While the three of them were busy

Fighting demons was nothing new for Ezra. He had single-handedly vanquished a Flame Demon barely a few weeks back and then held his own against an even stronger Abyssal Demon. However, the Shadow Demon blocking his path presented a whole different challenge. To make matters worse, Vorus had already enlisted the help of a dozen more cultists to empower his spell and prevent the dark barrier from shrinking further. Now, even with one of the dark towers disabled, the spell’s influence continued growing stronger by the minute.Ezra could feel his muscles turning stiff as the decaying influence of the dark spell slowly sapped his strength, wreaking havoc on his body. The Shadow Demon noticed Ezra’s hands trembling as he leveled Lord Sebastian’s enchanted musket against his shoulder and took aim. A ring of blue light appeared in front of the barrel, and as Ezra pulled the trigger, a bolt of forked lightning erupted from his rifle. It crackled through the air and zapped the Shadow Demon, bu

  • Rotting away

Destroying the tainted crystal disabled the dark tower, severing its link from Vorus. With just two dark towers empowering his spell, the dark barrier shrunk back to the walls of Stonewell, weakening in intensity.Ezra breathed a sigh of relief as the decay slowed down, giving him just enough time to drink another Rapid Rejuvenation potion.Although it wasn’t a permanent solution, the magic brew helped Ezra buy just a little more time for himself.“One down. Two to go.” As Ezra looked outside, the shrieking of wyverns alerted him. The dark ones had heard the explosion and were now circling the skies around the tower.Flying out of there was only going to land Ezra in more trouble, so instead of taking the quick way out, he jumped down onto a broken ledge and rolled onto the rubble to cushion his fall.It wasn’t the smoothest path, and it tore Ezra’s jacket and bruised his legs, but he managed to get out of the tower before the necro bats swarmed in through the hole in the wall.Ezra’s

Vorus’ mastery over dark magic, combined with Stonewell’s advanced technology, allowed him to amplify his spell, increasing not just its area of influence but its power as well.Encased inside a dome of decay, Stonewell remained impervious to all attacking forces. The Imperial Army fighting outside was forced to back away and adopt a more defensive approach as the dark barrier expanded, engulfing a good quarter of the vast plains.Even the elves under Flavius’ command ran back to escape the effects of the spell.Ezra, however, had no choice but to push through the city while struggling with the constant life drain. Every second he spent inside the dark barrier leeched an hour from his life, making him age unnaturally.Although Ezra had only been inside Stonewell for a couple of minutes, he could already feel his limbs growing stiff and his skin turning wrinkly and soft.“Why don’t you just attack and kill Vorus directly? Why go through all the trouble of sabotaging the dark towers and

  • Rot and Decay

Ezra moved like a shadow, his boots kissing the cobbled road noiselessly as he sneaked up to the walls of Stonewell. A barred iron gate guarded by Elite Gunners obstructed his path while an army of Skeletal Archers kept watch from the battlements above.Even though the night was blindingly dark, the faint light from the spectral lamps hanging from the wall flickered in the soft-dying wind, illuminating the city in an eerie glow.In the past, a traveler could hear the grinding of factory gears and the crackling flames of the blazing furnace even from outside the gate, but now this once bustling city had fallen into a deathly slumber. The only sounds that reached Ezra’s ears were the wailing of banshees and the distant howls of feral ghouls. No living creature could survive within the walls of Stonewell while the dark barrier was active, yet Ezra was puzzled to see two human Gunners guarding the gate.“This doesn’t make any sense. How are they fighting the curse?” he mumbled in confusi

  • The infiltration plan

The Imperial Army advanced like a well-oiled machine, gradually pushing back the undead and clearing a way to Stonewell. The cavalry units rode down the lowly ghouls while the riflemen continued targeting the Slashers.Even the Skeletal Warriors found it difficult to penetrate the defensive circle as the Imperial Swordsmen hacked and slashed through the undead attackers, covering all sides.Count Gressil and Marquis Desmond acted as commanding officers, organizing the whole offensive and charting a course through the madness. Their strategy of supporting the melee attackers with ranged gunfire worked wonders against the undead. However, the tides of battle turned once again as Vorus sent out his fliers to engage the enemy.Dark Harpies and Tainted Beholders flew out of the clouds, catching the human troops by surprise. The riflemen were too busy dealing with the Slashers and this sudden aerial assault left them defenseless.Flocks of harpies swooped down like eagles and plucked the s

Owing to their scaly hides and tougher flesh, the Slashers resisted the burn but were dazzled by the bright light.Staying in the holy light caused the necrophages to lose their regenerative abilities and dealt continuous damage to their rotting bodies. Their flesh started peeling off their bones as their skin sizzled and hissed.Marquis Desmond realized the enemy was in a spot of bother and immediately pressed the offensive, ordering the Imperial Troops to attack. The Imperial Cavaliers rode out with purpose and trampled down the retreating ghouls while the swordsmen formed a protectiv

Even the horses raised their forelegs and refused to go any further.Count Gressil could feel his blood freezing inside his veins as the temperature suddenly dropped around them. Soon, it turned so chilly that a thin sheet of ice covered the ground, and the troops started shivering in their boots.“This cannot be natural,” Marquis Desmond pointed out as he noticed the water inside his flask freeze without warning. Even though he was wearing a heavy jacket layered with fur, he could feel the chilly wind biting through his clothes like daggers. “Hold!” he ordered, bringing the marching formation to a sluggish halt.Up ahead, even Count Gressil commanded the Imperial Riflemen to stop their advance and dig in for now. However, the golems marching in front continued trudging through the fog, unfazed by the whims of the weather and undeterred by the fear of the undead.Just when things had r

Count Gressil took charge of the Imperial Riflemen while Marquis Desmond led the rest of the ground troops including the cavaliers and swordsmen.Meanwhile, Aurelia coordinated with Flavius to get his elven archers and shamans into marching formation.Having spent all their days roaming the valley like hunters, the elves from the Thousand Arrows had very little experience fighting pitched battles or laying siege to fortified strongholds.Since these free elves preferred to stalk their prey and hunt from the shadows, Aurelia decided to organize them into a separate battalion of specialized shock troops.“Your elves won’t be fighting with the rest of the Imperial Troops. I think your elves are more suited for infiltrations and assassinations,” she explained to Flavius. “Where do you want us then?” he questioned, eager to join the war efforts.“You are staying back. I need your elves to act as a special infiltration battalion. If things get out of control and we need something to be han
