Ch 006

It took Idris sometimes to settle his facial reaction as him staring at Reiki made the situation a bit awkward. Reiki's wife, the woman they saved, introduced herself as Alexa but none of them revealed their surname.

Unlike Alexa, Reiki had an average look of a man. He was a tall man with an average height, his brown eyes matched his blonde hair quite finely. Though he was not much muscular, his fighting skills were worth admiring.

Reiki checked the surroundings for a moment before coming back to Alexa. "I know a certain way, as long as we follow the path we will be able to leave this place. Let's go." Saying so as Reiki proceeded with his wife, Adam suddenly stood before Idris. 

Extending his arms in front of him, Adam voiced cautiously as if looking out for danger, "My Lord, what if they are not trustworthy? We don't know them, we can end up in trouble."

'I am sure Skie would have warned me if there was anything like that. Since my mission was to find this man, I'm sure he will be useful to me in the future.'

Hitting Adam's head gently, Idris said, "What are you thinking? We saved his wife, do you think he will dare harm us?"

"You are right though, my Lord."

"Yeah, let's go now. We are already late, Sasha will be worried about us." 

Before leaving Idris told Sasha that he would soon be back but since all these things happened, his return has been delayed.

Nodding his head Adam followed after Idris.

After walking for 15 minutes they were finally out of the abandoned building and it all seemed safe. Idris looked around, it was on the street near where the woman was attacked. They were walking towards the end of the alley when Adam paused on his track all of a sudden.

"What's wrong?" Noticing his halt, Idris asked Adam such and his eyes followed where Adam was looking at.

Adam had been looking at Reiki for awhile now, Idris also noticed it before but he didn't say anything.

"I think he seems familiar." Adam pronounced.

"Who?"

"Mr. Reiki." He answered.

"Familiar? As in?" 

"It's in my stomach but I can't remember... Oh right, he is really the infamous Reiki Eckes." Adam said this time with much more confidence.

"Infamous Reiki Eckes? What do you exactly mean by that? Adam." Hella confused, Idris stared at Reiki.

"It was some years ago when I came to this town with my mother, I was only five years old back then. Some bandits tried stealing everything from us, and when we didn't want to give it to them they tried killing us. Thankfully, a gentleman saved us..." With a sigh he continued, "But after saving us, he just left so I didn't get to know his name but remember only his face. Some years later, when I saw his portrait hanging on the town walls I was curious so I found out more about him."

Hearing Adam Idris stared at Reiki curiously. 

"Reiki Eckes, the royal tutor of the crown prince was known to be very scholarly, intelligent and kind-hearted. Even though he was young, he rose to the top to everyone's surprise. He used to help the people in need, be good to everyone and was loved by the empire's people. It was all going well until one day, rumours started spreading that he was brainwashing the crown prince and raising a rebellion, taking control over the northern military armies. Not long after, his family was executed with the order of him spending his life in prison." 

"What happened later?"

"I don't exactly know what happened but rumours had it that maybe he ran away, maybe he was already executed, maybe he killed himself because he couldn't take the fact that he was going to prison. True to say there was no news of him since that year. But now seeing him alive, I think he managed to escape the imperial punishment. Back then he was not married so now..." Saying so, Adam looked at the couple from a distance. They looked so happy together.

Walking to them Idris paused, from closer look he really seemed like someone noble. When Idris was curiously looking at him, suddenly...

"What is mana force?" 

Idris heard it for the first time ever, that's why he had no idea what 'Mana force' was at all.

[The power of the elemental forces of nature embodied in an object or person. Simply speaking, it's a supernatural force or power that may be ascribed to persons, spirits, or inanimate objects. Mana can be both good and evil, beneficial and dangerous.]

"Is it something like magic?"

[Yes, you can say that.]

"What kind of magic exactly? Is it something like the wizards have or mages?"

[Yes, kinda. It can be any kind of magic, it all depends on the individual.]

"Ok, but how do I do that? Any clue?"

[You can take someone's help if needed.]

"Who will help me? Hey! Skie! Are you there?"

Idris heaved a sigh out of frustration as there came no reply from Skie. Everything seemed to be really weird to him.

"We are here." Reiki's voice pulled him back to reality. 

"Are you guys leaving?"

"Yes, thank you for saving my wife. I'm grateful for your help... then we will not bother you again. You guys should leave this place as well." 

'Take help from... someone?' A weird thought yet it seemed like he could take a chance.

Seeing the couple walk away suddenly Idris called out, "Reiki Eckes."

Reiki was awestruck as well as Alexa the moment Idris called his name. He froze on the spot when Idris continued inching closer to him.

Suddenly Alexa stood before Reiki like a shield and asked nervously, "Who are you? What do you want?" Her hands were trembling when Reiki stood like a statue.

Idris smiled genuinely, "Don't worry, I'll not hurt you guys. I'm not a bad person. I just want to talk to Mr. Eckes."

"Since you already know who I am, let's cut to the chase. What do you want to talk about?" 

Letting out a sigh, Idris added, "First, let me introduce myself. I am Idris Beaufort, the eldest son of the Duke of Montana." As Idris said so, the couple stared at each other.

"You might know I am the weak and abandoned son of Duke Skyler living in the secluded area named Ice palace where even bandits to be punished are scared to get in. Well, I want you to help me unbind my mana force."

Adam looked at him shocked. He always thought that his master was just a weak fellow but now he seemed to be wanting to grow stronger.

"You want me to unbind your mana force?"

"Yes and in exchange I will help you stay in my palace. Though it's not a luxurious palace, I can guarantee you and your wife safety as long as you are in my care."

The words coming from the mouth of a 11 year old boy seemed utterly unbelievable to the couple but something about those eyes of his seemed so realistic.

The couple both stood silent while looking at each other. Slowly, she stepped backwards and stood side by side his husband.

"Nobody can get inside the palace on their own wish so why should we trust you?"

"I'm merely a weak boy without any royal power. What will I get from hurting who saved me? And I'll never do anything in favour of the royals who outcasted my family. About what you said earlier, there's a time when we can get inside without anyone knowing, the same goes with leaving the palace. But it needs someone's hallucination spells. Anyway, I can let you two stay in my palace all hidden while you need to help me unbind my mana force." Idris explained.

For a moment Reiki kept looking at him from his head to toe until he finally let his guard down.

"Fine."

"Then did we reach an agreement?"

"Yes, we did."
