Heirloom

Chapter 6

Weeks Later

~ Christain Forbes ~

It happened that I eventually followed the men weeks ago to the 'family hospital'. As soon as I recovered, they made arrangements for me to settle back home. When I say home, I do not mean the slum I've spent nearly five years of my life living in, instead, it was a luxurious mansion, filled with maids and guards, expensive furnitures, cars and everything a billionair's house should possess. It wasn't until I met the mysterious Chairman Forbes that I started to understand what was happening. I was the lost son of the Forbes. The only son of my father and the heir to the family's heirloom. It all started out in a surreal manner but again, it started to make sense to me. Why I was in an orphanage home, why I was abducted, why they tried to lure me off to another country. I guessed right. I was a threat to their existence. I was no longer lost and I'm forever grateful for that. Neither my boss nor Lauren checked up on me all the while I was in the hospital bed or missing from work. The only time he called was two weeks ago to tell me I'm no longer a worker in his company….

My father, Chairman Forbes had insisted that I visit the company today and have an idea of how it runs. According to what I've heard, it's a real estate company, holding more than seventy percent shares in the real estate industry. The Forbes also owns a resort in the most expensive city of Carlifonia which earns an estimate of twenty billion dollars every year. It's known to have invested in a whole lot of companies and businesses as well, earning itself more profits and fame in the process. The MRH jewelry industry wasn't excluded, the firm I was worked as a messengerial staff.. I grinned delightfully. Isn't fate beautiful?.

'Boss. We've arrived' a guard held open the door for me and I stepped out, adjusted my designer tuxedo and slid on my sunglasses.

An army of guards accompanied me as I walked into the building.

The instant I stepped in, gasps filled the air, accompanied by distinct chatters from workers present at that moment. Some of which I was able to grasp.

'Is that him? The real son of Chairman Forbes?. He's so Handsome. He looks more like his father. How about the other son? Is he a fake?'

I scoffed and shut the mumurings out of my head. It was my first day in the company after weeks of being found and saved. I'm certain News about me being the rightful heir of Forbes Company will spread like a wild fire. After all, it's Carlifonia. They tend not to miss out important news like this one.

A sneaky grin crawled up my face. Then, I'll be right here, waiting for her to come back, crawl on her knees and beg for forgiveness.

The elevator button was pressed open by one of the guards behind me, they waited for me to step in before attempting to join in.

I raised my right hand in protest. 'It's alright. You don't need to trail behind anymore' I assured lightly.

'But sir, the chairman instructed us to always be by your side'

I rolled my eyes. My father wouldn't stop being over protective since he found me. He thinks I'll disappear again if I'm not kept under adequate watch. I wish I was able to convince him that I'm no longer timid, frightened, helpless Dylan, I was once. I'm now a wealthy, powerful, Christain Forbes, the rightful heir to the billion dollar Forbes company.

I smirked mischievously. 'One will do. If I need extra help, I'll call for the rest'

'But.'

I stopped them before they could say anything else. 'No buts.. off you go now' I urged, bidding them a goodbye.

They dropped their heads in a bow and retreated. The elevator door swung close and I adjusted the tightly knotted tie around my button down shirt's collar.

'Is there anything special I'm to do on my first day of work?' I asked the guard who stayed.

'I know nothing about the company affiars sir but whatever it is, I'm sure your assistant will be of help'

I inclined my head in acknowledgement.

I dropped off the elevator and headed towards the direction of my office. I came to an abrupt halt when I encountered a feminine figure, pacing the entrance. Her small back was faced to me, her silk, dark curly hair fell over her shoulders. She was dressed in a white formal dress.

'Who is she? How did she get in here?'

'I've never seen her around' he answered and approached her in the twinkling of an eye. He grabbed her by the arm. 'What are you doing here? Who let you in?' he enquired from her.

Frail, little screams came off her mouth. 'Let me go! You shouldn't treat a lady rashly' she fired, biting off his fists.

'Who knows? You might be a fvcking paparazzi!' he yelled back.

He started to drag her out. Immediately I saw her face, I stopped the guard immediately.

'Get your hands off her!' I growled, unintentionally causing my guard to flinch. 'No one's allowed to touch her' I ordered. He confusedly gazed at me, turned back to the lady to make due apologies.

'I'm sorry ma'am'. He exited the corridor thereafter.

I watched her in amusement as she glared daggers at the retreating figure of the guard. We only met twice and she's saved my life once. The intern nurse from the hospital who helped call the police when she found out I'd been abducted.

I sent her a warm smile. 'Miss. Tiffany, I'm sorry that happened'

'It's alright. I'm here to see you, especially'

I nodded politely, opened the office…

I removed my jacket and hung it on the arm of my ergonomic chair.

'Do you prefer coffee or tea?'

'Coffee please'.
