Chapter 6
Weeks Later
~ Christain Forbes ~
It happened that I eventually followed the men weeks ago to the 'family hospital'. As soon as I recovered, they made arrangements for me to settle back home. When I say home, I do not mean the slum I've spent nearly five years of my life living in, instead, it was a luxurious mansion, filled with maids and guards, expensive furnitures, cars and everything a billionair's house should possess. It wasn't until I met the mysterious Chairman Forbes that I started to understand what was happening. I was the lost son of the Forbes. The only son of my father and the heir to the family's heirloom. It all started out in a surreal manner but again, it started to make sense to me. Why I was in an orphanage home, why I was abducted, why they tried to lure me off to another country. I guessed right. I was a threat to their existence. I was no longer lost and I'm forever grateful for that. Neither my boss nor Lauren checked up on me all the while I was in the hospital bed or missing from work. The only time he called was two weeks ago to tell me I'm no longer a worker in his company….
My father, Chairman Forbes had insisted that I visit the company today and have an idea of how it runs. According to what I've heard, it's a real estate company, holding more than seventy percent shares in the real estate industry. The Forbes also owns a resort in the most expensive city of Carlifonia which earns an estimate of twenty billion dollars every year. It's known to have invested in a whole lot of companies and businesses as well, earning itself more profits and fame in the process. The MRH jewelry industry wasn't excluded, the firm I was worked as a messengerial staff.. I grinned delightfully. Isn't fate beautiful?.
'Boss. We've arrived' a guard held open the door for me and I stepped out, adjusted my designer tuxedo and slid on my sunglasses.
An army of guards accompanied me as I walked into the building.
The instant I stepped in, gasps filled the air, accompanied by distinct chatters from workers present at that moment. Some of which I was able to grasp.
'Is that him? The real son of Chairman Forbes?. He's so Handsome. He looks more like his father. How about the other son? Is he a fake?'
I scoffed and shut the mumurings out of my head. It was my first day in the company after weeks of being found and saved. I'm certain News about me being the rightful heir of Forbes Company will spread like a wild fire. After all, it's Carlifonia. They tend not to miss out important news like this one.
A sneaky grin crawled up my face. Then, I'll be right here, waiting for her to come back, crawl on her knees and beg for forgiveness.
The elevator button was pressed open by one of the guards behind me, they waited for me to step in before attempting to join in.
I raised my right hand in protest. 'It's alright. You don't need to trail behind anymore' I assured lightly.
'But sir, the chairman instructed us to always be by your side'
I rolled my eyes. My father wouldn't stop being over protective since he found me. He thinks I'll disappear again if I'm not kept under adequate watch. I wish I was able to convince him that I'm no longer timid, frightened, helpless Dylan, I was once. I'm now a wealthy, powerful, Christain Forbes, the rightful heir to the billion dollar Forbes company.
I smirked mischievously. 'One will do. If I need extra help, I'll call for the rest'
'But.'
I stopped them before they could say anything else. 'No buts.. off you go now' I urged, bidding them a goodbye.
They dropped their heads in a bow and retreated. The elevator door swung close and I adjusted the tightly knotted tie around my button down shirt's collar.
'Is there anything special I'm to do on my first day of work?' I asked the guard who stayed.
'I know nothing about the company affiars sir but whatever it is, I'm sure your assistant will be of help'
I inclined my head in acknowledgement.
I dropped off the elevator and headed towards the direction of my office. I came to an abrupt halt when I encountered a feminine figure, pacing the entrance. Her small back was faced to me, her silk, dark curly hair fell over her shoulders. She was dressed in a white formal dress.
'Who is she? How did she get in here?'
'I've never seen her around' he answered and approached her in the twinkling of an eye. He grabbed her by the arm. 'What are you doing here? Who let you in?' he enquired from her.
Frail, little screams came off her mouth. 'Let me go! You shouldn't treat a lady rashly' she fired, biting off his fists.
'Who knows? You might be a fvcking paparazzi!' he yelled back.
He started to drag her out. Immediately I saw her face, I stopped the guard immediately.
'Get your hands off her!' I growled, unintentionally causing my guard to flinch. 'No one's allowed to touch her' I ordered. He confusedly gazed at me, turned back to the lady to make due apologies.
'I'm sorry ma'am'. He exited the corridor thereafter.
I watched her in amusement as she glared daggers at the retreating figure of the guard. We only met twice and she's saved my life once. The intern nurse from the hospital who helped call the police when she found out I'd been abducted.
I sent her a warm smile. 'Miss. Tiffany, I'm sorry that happened'
'It's alright. I'm here to see you, especially'
I nodded politely, opened the office…
I removed my jacket and hung it on the arm of my ergonomic chair.
'Do you prefer coffee or tea?'
'Coffee please'.
Chapter 7~ Christain Forbes ~Pale blue eyes peered into mine as we sat across each other. The dark circles under her eyes indicated she's been deprived of a good sleep maybe.'What do you have to say?' I urged her to speak. Her lips pressed into a thin line before she spilled it. 'I'm having problem at the hospital'.My brows furrowed and I rested my elbow on the desk, leaned on it to have a closer look at her facial features. 'Why?'She rolled her eyes, her perfectly pouted lips nibbling against each other.'You should know better than anyone else'I cussed under my breath when the realization dawned on me.. that son of a bitvh. It's like he's got some nerve after all the wrongs he did. 'I'm sorry this is happening to you but my father informed me he already took care of things, so, he shouldn't bother you anymore…' I trailed off. 'Well, he's a difficult man, Mr. Dylan. He's threatening to fire me. He wouldn't even let me engage in any hospital activity. He's making everything d
Chapter 8~ Christain~'I expected you to recognize me right away. If not my face, my voice at least' he snickered.'Cut it out. What are you here for? Abduct me again? Slice my throat open or persuade me desperately to leave?'His facial appearance hardened.. He tapped the space beside him. 'Come Sit. We have a lot to talk about. Dear brother'My anger turned into astonishment as I cocked my head. 'Brother? What right do you have to call me that?'He tapped the sofa once again. 'If you really want to know then sit.. I'm afraid my neck would fall off from staring up at you if you remain that way'I folded my arms. 'Your presence makes me down to earth uncomfortable.' 'What are you proposing? That I leave?''Yes. Please do.''Aren't you interested in what I've got to say?'I shook my head. 'Forget it. I don't want to listen to whatever you've got to say' I bawled. He adjusted his suit. 'You should be interested. A little piece of information can save your life'My chin jutted out stub
~ Lauren ~The aura that welcomed me when I surfaced into his office was quite scary and unusual. Regardless, I set my bag on the table and settled on a seat.'You asked to see me. Is there a problem?' I asked since he's not talking to me first.'What do you think, Lauren? You think I'll remain calm after all I did?' he bawled, causing me to jump in my seat.I'm not able to grasp what he's really trying to say.'I don't understand you. What are you talking about?'He scowled, his eye balls bulging as they stare into mine.'i don't want to believe you've not heard about it'I shrugged my shoulders. 'Whatever this 'it' is, I sure haven't heard anything'.He shook his head scornfully, reached for a Newspaper on his table and threw it at me.My mind broke in to puzzles. He's never been like this towards me. What's with his change in behavior?'Are you going to read that or continue staring at me?'I got a grip on myself, transferred all of my attention on the papers he threw at me. The fi
CHAPTER 10Days Later ~ Christian ~'Sir, the interview is today' I was reminded by one of the workers who took upon himself the responsibility of acting as my Personal Assistant for the past six days. He mentioned he'd stop once I find one for myself.I inclined my head affirmatively. 'When did you set the time to be?''It's starting by 2:00pm sir' he responded.I took a quick glance at my wrist watch and frowned.'It's two already'He smacked his lips. 'It skipped my miind to tell you before hand. I'm sorry sir'I wheezed out a breath.'I'll accompany you there' he offered.I adjusted my tuxedo and approached the room where the interview is to take place.I have decided to personally handle this interview so I can get a suitable working partner for myself. If someone was to choose for me. I might not be so satisfied.'How many people applied?' I asked as I settled on the chair. 'Four hundred sir but I picked out specific ones that are certified for the job, using their CV and expe
~ Lauren ~I predicted what was coming next when he slammed my profile on the table, skidded his chair away and walked out. He was unpleased with my presence in his office or newly acquired company...'Ma'am, I'll accompany you out' the man who had called me in said to me, his hands pointing to the exit area. I said nothing more and obliged.I bowed my head in shame as I walked out of his office, a failure. Thinking hard, I wonder what could have changed with Dylan. He was such a naive, innocent. How did he change into this so fast??I had thought he loved me too much that he wouldn't be able to say no to me. I had assumed he'd welcome me back into his life with open arms despite my insecurity of what I've done to him. All this now is all the confirmation I need to know he hates me.How do I explain this to Gabe? That I could not convince Dylan to have me as his new personal assistant? I let out a small, bitter laughter. How would he react if he finds out I was specifically ordered o
~ Tiffany ~My hands lazily reached for the alarm clock as it blared loudly, momentarily disturbing my sleep, I turned it off, went ahead to bury myself under the covers again. It's supposed to be a free day for me, since I spent the last five days of the week in the hospital, attending to patients. Whatever Mr. Christain had done to tame the doctor after my complain was still unsure to me but one thing was certain, it worked. My eyelids fluttered closed and I started to drift off to sleep. A cuss word escaped my mouth when another buzz from my phone deprived me, yet again. As I reached for the phone, I quietly hoped it's not from the hospital. I don't think I can get my ass worked up today again.Without confirming the caller ID, I answered and spoke into the phone.'Tiffany Palmer. How can I help you?''Good Morning, Miss. I'm Roger. The chairman has asked to inform you about his birthday party, taking place at the resort today. He said it'd be of great honor if you acknowledge it'
~Christain Forbes~With one last adjustment of my carefully tailored tuxedo, I walked in. I instantly got sick of the attention I was getting the moment I stepped in. Although, I knew this was going to happen somehow but I wasn't prepared for it. I was never used to attention since childhood, especially ones like this. The gasps, distinct chatters, murmurs.. I quickly made my way to where my father stood, his right arm spread apart as he waited for me to join him.'He's really the son of his father... They look so alike... How were they able to find him eventually? He's so handsome...' the talks went on and on for minutes.Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw them stare at me with so much hostility, annoyed by the fact I'm getting so many attention from the public.... They had come in first when father tried to introduce me but were immediately pushed aside by some of the guests. Later on, father gestured towards them, allowing them the chance to join him. 'I understand you all are su
Few weeks later~Christian~'President, the same lady is here again, requesting to see you' I snarled angrily. 'Do you need orders to send her out?'He bowed slightly. 'I'll do that right away, sir'Before he had the chance to depart my office, she stumbled in, scurrying close to where I stood. She looked disoriented, unlike her usual self. Her hair was a mess, her face had sweat smeared all over it, and her eyes were red and swollen. The mere sight of her triggered memories I'd tried so hard to seal within me. To my irritation, she dropped to her knees and looked up at me with tear-filled eyes. 'What do you want me to do hunhh? To portray my remorsefulness? To beg for forgiveness? Tell me. I'll do anything you want' she clamoured. My expression turned cold. Few days before, this was what I wanted. Her kneeling before me, begging desperately with doleful tears in her eyes just like she made me plead but now, it angered me that she was doing this. I allowed my hostile blue eyes to p
