"Where am I?" Yuki's voice echoed as he stepped into a place of complete darkness. The only source of light came from the eerie blue glow emanating from his own body and the figure cloaked in black sitting on a throne adorned with skulls.
"You are at the border of two worlds," the cloaked figure finally spoke, his voice deep and resonant. "I am Shinigami, the God of Death, tasked with escorting your soul to the afterlife."
"The God of Death, Shinigami?" Yuki instinctively took a step back, his wariness growing as he processed the introduction.
Shinigami remained silent, watching Yuki intently.
"So... I'm dead?" Yuki's voice trembled as he pieced together his last memories. He recalled the truck that had hit him, leaving his body battered and broken.
"Possibly, yes. Possibly, no," Shinigami answered calmly.
"What do you mean?" Gaining a semblance of composure, Yuki dared to question the figure whose face was hidden within the depths of the hood.
"I brought you here for a reason. I know you're not ready to leave your world. I can help you return, but you'll need to do something for me in return," Shinigami explained.
"Do something?" Yuki was still grappling with the situation.
"Don't you wish to be with your beloved again?" Shinigami's question cut through Yuki's confusion.
"Hana…" The name brought a rush of memories and the promise he had made to live together forever.
"Look!" Shinigami swung his scythe, conjuring an image in the air. It was Hana, cradling Yuki's bloodied body on the street. Somehow, she had reached him despite being at the university earlier.
"What does this mean?" Yuki's voice rose in desperation.
"Do you want to go back? To live again and reunite with your beloved?" Shinigami asked.
"Of course, I want to go back and be with Hana," Yuki declared with unwavering certainty.
"Then make a pact with me. I will grant your wish, but you must fulfill my conditions," Shinigami pressed his scythe into the ground.
"A pact?" Yuki felt a sinking dread at the thought of making a deal with the God of Death.
"You will travel to the world of magic," Shinigami stated.
"Is that all?" Yuki found the condition surprisingly simple.
"Of course not, fool. You must trade something of equal value for your lover's life," Shinigami's voice thundered.
"What do you want?!" Yuki clenched his fists, understanding that he had no other option but to comply.
"Enter one of those doors and find the one that will reconnect your soul to your body." Suddenly, numerous doors appeared, encircling Yuki. Each was closed, emitting a menacing black-red glow.
"So, I just choose one of these doors?" Yuki sought clarification.
"Yes! But don't think it will be easy. Fail, and you'll experience death again, returning here. If you return, there will be no second chances to reunite with your loved one. Each wrong door will bring you something terrible to face and overcome. Each door leads to a different dimension. So, do you have the courage to accept my mercy, young one?" Shinigami's voice was stern and imposing.
Yuki stood silent, pondering. He knew whatever awaited him would not be pleasant. But his heart yearned to see Hana again.
"If you refuse, I'll gladly escort you to the eternal world, where time holds no sway over you," Shinigami pointed with his bony finger, revealing a fiery red portal.
Yuki hesitated, unwilling to leave. He still longed to see Hana.
"If you want one last chance, make the pact and choose a door," Shinigami gestured to the doors surrounding Yuki.
Yuki remained motionless, his mind a whirl of confusion.
"The choice is yours. I will take you to the place you select," Shinigami's posture exuded an air of dominance.
"I'll go to the world of magic. But first, tell me clearly what I must do there," Yuki demanded, needing clarity before committing to this perilous journey.
"Find what is forgotten, uncover what is hidden, and destroy what is firmly built," Shinigami outlined.
"Huh? That's it?" Yuki was perplexed.
"Yes. The rest is for you to discover there," Shinigami's voice was unchanging, cold and precise.
"I want to see Hana again so badly," Yuki wavered.
"Your time to decide is limited. Hurry, or your real body's soul fragment will fade, and you'll truly die. Make your decision quickly," Shinigami urged.
"Alright. Let's make the pact," Yuki finally decided.
Shinigami struck the ground with his scythe. Suddenly, a silver sword with a black tip and blue patterns emerged from the ground in front of Yuki.
"A sword?" Yuki murmured.
"That's your weapon there. It will guide you. The blue gem in its hilt is a soul stone fragment. It will glow when you need answers. By taking this sword, our pact becomes binding," Shinigami explained.
"But I don't know how to use a sword," Yuki admitted. He had never learned any martial arts, let alone swordsmanship.
"Huft…" Shinigami sighed, his patience seemingly waning.
"Take it and go. I won't let you die easily there," Shinigami rose from his throne, fixing Yuki with a piercing gaze from within his hood.
Yuki hurriedly grasped the sword as he glimpsed two red points glowing within Shinigami's hood. He was certain the God of Death was growing tired of their conversation.
As soon as Yuki touched the sword, blue lightning coursed through his hand and spread across his body.
"Aaa...!" Yuki screamed in pain.
He wanted to let go, but the sword seemed to cling to him.
Shinigami watched impassively as Yuki writhed in agony.
After a few moments, Yuki collapsed, his body enveloped in blue electricity.
"What does all this mean?" Yuki gasped, clutching his right arm.
"The sword is merging with your body, hiding within you. Call upon it when needed; your souls are now one. The sword's name is Seiryū no Inazuma, the Blue Dragon's Lightning. Call its name, and it will appear," Shinigami stepped down from his throne, approaching the still-pained Yuki.
Standing before Yuki, Shinigami's red eyes bore into him.
"So, which door will you choose?" Shinigami asked coldly.
Still in pain, Yuki could only point weakly to a random door.
Shinigami swung his scythe. Yuki, unprepared, couldn't dodge.
His body shattered into blue crystals, flying toward the chosen door, which opened, hurling Yuki's soul into the magical world.
"Sayonara, human child," Shinigami watched as Yuki's soul departed from the border of the two worlds where their pact had been sealed.
Boom! From the clear midday sky, a bolt of blue lightning suddenly struck, hitting the barren hillside, where only green grass and wildflowers grew. As the lightning dissipated, a figure clad in full armor emerged, coughing through the billowing smoke.“Damn it! That Shinigami is such a jerk. Couldn’t he have dropped me off more gently?” Yuki grumbled to himself, trying to avoid the lingering smoke around him.“I can hear you!” The voice of the Shinigami echoed from the sky. Yuki’s face turned sour. He hadn’t expected the deity he’d made a pact with to hear his muttering.“Sorry!” Yuki quickly clasped his hands in front of his chest and bowed his head in apology, regretting his hasty words. He even shut his eyes tightly, fearing the Shinigami’s wrath. But after waiting a while, the Shinigami’s voice was no longer heard. Yuki cautiously opened his eyes, only to find nothing had happened.“Phew…” Yuki exhaled a sigh of relief. He then looked around at the not-so-tall hill. The green hil
After a while, the man who had been transported to another dimension finally calmed his heart and tried to accept his current fate.Yuki thought about his chance to meet Hana again. Though difficult, he tried to convince himself that everything would be okay."Alright then!" Yuki took a deep breath before getting up from his lying position. He sat comfortably, staring straight ahead, trying to recall his conversation with the Shinigami, hoping to find a clue."Door, seek what is forgotten, find what is hidden, and destroy what stands firm. Then, the other clue…" Yuki muttered, still trying to process everything."Aha!" Yuki snapped his fingers as he remembered something that might help him. With newfound enthusiasm, Yuki stood up and extended his hands forward, mimicking Spiderman's web-shooting pose."Come forth!" he shouted loudly, but nothing happened. This time, Yuki raised his hands above his head. "Come forth!" he yelled again, but still, nothing appeared.Undeterred, Yuki cross
“Where are we going, Master?” Seira looked at Yuki, who was walking but had a confused expression on his face.Truthfully, Yuki himself didn’t know the direction and was confused about where to go. “Wait a moment, Seira.” Yuki decided to choose a direction using a luck formula by counting the petals of a wildflower on the hill. Seira remained silent, not commenting, watching what her new master was doing.“North, south, west, east, north, south, west, east…” Yuki continued plucking the petals of the wildflower in his hand until only the last petal remained. “South! We’re heading south, Seira!” Yuki had made up his mind to go south.“Yes, Master.” Seira obediently followed Yuki’s decision. With determination, Yuki stepped forward. Throughout the journey, Yuki does not encounter a single person; not even an old house or a hut can be seen. Yuki was now truly in a vast expanse of green grass, uninhabited and silent. “Seira! This is a magical world, right?” Yuki asked as they descended the
“By the way, are you okay?” The blonde girl with pointed ears turned around and extended her hand to help Yuki up.Yuki shook his head, snapping out of the awe he had just experienced. “Hah! Blood!” he screamed, realizing his body and face were covered in it.“Ha-ha-ha, you’re so funny. Stand over there. I’ll help clean you up. I’m a sorceress.” Aira extended her hand.“Ah, I’m just a regular swordsman, a complete beginner.” Yuki hesitantly shook Aira’s hand.“You’re human, right?” Aira smiled sweetly, making Yuki feel a bit awkward.“Yes, I’m human. You’re human too, right?” Yuki found it odd that Aira called him human, even though she also appeared to be human.“Get ready, I’ll clean off the blood from your body. It must smell awful.” Aira chuckled, covering her mouth as she saw Yuki’s expression, who seemed about to vomit.Yuki stood up and followed Aira’s instructions without question, feeling dizzy from the stench of blood on his body.“Spiral Water!” Aira chanted, pointing her r
Yuki finally began learning basic magic from Aira as they had agreed. He was eager to learn so he could survive in this strange, magical world.Yuki, Aira, and Seira, who was in the form of a little girl, sat in a circle on the grass."Do you know there are different elements of magic in this world, Yuki?" Aira started the lesson by asking Yuki about his knowledge of magic."I don't know," Yuki replied honestly. He knew nothing about magic because, in his world, magic was just an imaginative creation of artists."Huh? You don't know? Even children know this. Where are you really from?" Aira found it odd. Nevertheless, she decided to help Yuki because they had made an agreement.Yuki grinned sheepishly. He couldn't possibly tell her he was from the modern world, not originally from the magical one."So, what do you want to learn first?" Aira asked, her tone a bit sharp out of frustration. She felt like she had taken on a student who was truly clueless, not realizing Yuki was special."
Chapter 6: Understanding the Elements of Magic"Does this mean I can use magic now? I can use spatial magic, right? Right?" Yuki's excitement was palpable, but it was abruptly interrupted by a flick to her forehead."Ow!" Yuki winced at the sting of Aira's action."Stop acting like a child," Aira grumbled."Sorry," Yuki apologized, adjusting her posture."Alright. You can sense the magic energy within your body now, right? But that doesn't mean you can use magic just yet. First, read the book I gave you. It explains why you can sense the magic energy but can't use it yet." Aira pointed to the book lying beside Yuki."Okay." Yuki obeyed, opening the book to the first page."There are four types of magical elements: fire, water, air, and earth." Yuki read aloud softly. Her forehead creased with concentration. Yuki was now certain that the world she had found herself in was a fantasy realm, much like those she had read about in fantasy novels."Are you confused?" Aira asked with a condes
After finishing their studies on magical elements, Yuki, Aira, and Seira continued their journey to the nearest village to find lodging."Are we going to keep walking like this?" Yuki asked, feeling utterly exhausted after nearly two hours of continuous walking. Moreover, the day was getting late."Haha, be patient. We're almost there. Maybe another two hours," Aira replied, laughing at Yuki's complaint.Yuki pouted. In his original world, Yuki often walked, but never for hours on end like this."Hey, there's a horse-drawn cart. Maybe we can hitch a ride," Aira said, waving her hand as she spotted a brown horse pulling a cart heading towards them."Really? For real?" Yuki, who was already tired, instantly perked up.Aira waved her hand again, and the cart stopped politely. After asking for permission to hitch a ride, Aira handed over three copper coins as payment for their ride to the nearest village. The cart driver happily accepted and helped Yuki, Aira, and Seira onto the cart.Ins
After a long journey, Yuki, Aira, and Seira finally arrived at the inn. They disembarked from the freight cart with tired but relieved faces."Um, Aira. Are we staying here?" Yuki asked hesitantly."Of course, Yuki. It's already dark, and it's too dangerous to continue traveling now," Aira replied, puzzled by Yuki's question."But, Aira... it's like this..." Yuki looked unsure. He scratched the back of his head and seemed nervous."What? Speak clearly.""Well, it's like this. Sorry, just a moment." Yuki leaned closer to Aira's ear, his tall frame bending down to match Aira's shorter height.Yuki whispered, and Aira burst out laughing."Hahaha. It's fine. I'll cover it this time. Don't worry. Hahaha." Aira laughed, patting Yuki's arm.It turned out Yuki had confessed he had no money. He told Aira his money pouch had fallen somewhere. Of course, he couldn't mention that the death god who threw him into this magical world hadn't given him any money to survive.Yuki felt embarrassed, but
