Chapter 136: Danger Lurks

Alex arrived back at Kelly's house and filled her in on what had transpired at Mary's residence. She comforted him and then pointed out to Alex that he had been gone for three years at that point.

"It's likely that the pressure from the Smiths caused Mary to have no choice in the matter." Kelly stated.

"I don't understand how she could have treated me like this. No matter what happened, she was obligated to look for me and wait." Alex's words were filled with rage.

"Even if she had wished to wait for you, she would not have. How did it get to be three years since it was only three months? You made a vow to be absent for a period of three months. You wound up putting in a total of three years. Because nobody heard anything from you, everyone assumed that something terrible must have taken place. Even I, at one point, got the feeling that something terrible had occurred, but I forced myself to think that you would come back someday. I continued to believe despite the fact that certain t
