Chapter 6

In the nation, there were seven great families.

Amongst those seven was the Burton family, a family so powerful they were debated to be amongst the top 3 in the seven great families.

This day marked a day commonly seen in families like the Burton’s, where they hosted banquets to flaunt their wealth or new acquisitions.

It was a practice carried down from patriarch to patriarch since their founding and the current patriarch of the family, Nathaniel Burton was yet to end the tradition.

When a family as powerful as the Burtons held occasions like this, even the ones who plotted against them were in attendance, much less other notable people who allied themselves with them.

It was a party of the rich, by the rich and for the rich.

Simply being in attendance was seen as a status symbol.

Another means the attendees further asserted their dominance was the extravagant donations made during the party.

A man in a flashy tuxedo with a mic in hand stood in the front of their grand living room that now hosted over a hundred people and announced.

“The Jaegers presented the most outstanding gift. The rare antique that is the Phillip super watch, priced at a whopping forty two million dollars.”

“The Casingtons gifted this outstanding vase, said to be from a lost civilisation, This masterpiece has been given the worth by our trusted inspector of a mind blowing sum of eighty five million dollars.”

Another round of applause signaled the end of the announcements of the gifts.

Without wasting a moment, Nathaniel walked down the stairs where he was handed the microphone to give his announcement.

“Centuries ago, when the Burton family first migrated into this region, no one would’ve believed that the small family of back then would grow into the most powerful of the seven great families now.”

He laughed, holding onto his cane while watching the few representatives of the other families amongst the great seven.

“But we didn’t rely on the expectations of anyone. Bit by bit, we climbed the pinnacle of power and like other mediocre families, we didn’t think that where we had gotten to was enough.”

Nathaniel walked forward, his voice sounding more confident than before. “We kept excelling, trampling our enemies underfoot and grew to greater heights, and because of the ambition of I and the patriarchs before me, you can all gather at the most wonderful event of the year in this nation.”

Turning to another room, he gestured with the hand holding his cane while saying, “Now without further ado, come and behold some of the finest pieces that the previous patriarchs and I have acquired over the years. You should all be grateful for such an opportunity.”

His chuckle caused a ripple of laughter to move across the crowd as the participants followed him into the hallway where several art pieces owned by the Burton family were displayed.

After showcasing his art pieces, the party soon came to a close.

The guests trickled out slowly, conversing amongst themselves as they returned to their respective homes.

But while they departed, no one noticed the fact that a black unlicensed SUV remained behind.

“Sir, do you truly wish to go by yourself?” One of his subordinates asked Arthur, genuinely concerned.

“Yes, I will handle this myself, your only duty is to make sure no one escapes. The Burton family will mourn tonight.” Arthur replied coldly, stepping out of the car and putting on his white mask with the design of a blood red rose by its side.

In the villa, the Burton family conversed amongst themselves, with Nathaniel continuously boasting about his being able to acquire the Rhyfel’s most valued art piece.

Little did they know that just outside their home, the man who wore a black trenchcoat, gloves and a white mask was the true owner of the possession they boasted of.

The doors burst open after a yell, the body of one of the Burton family’s guards sailed through the air before crashing on the ground before them.

Arthur walked inside, looking from the guard to the startled family. He had chosen to wear a mask as he didn’t want Luna to be tied to any problems, now that he had revealed that he was her cousin and Arthur Rhyfel.

He glanced at the system window, noting the stats displayed;

[Name: Arthur Rhyfel.] [Level:100]

[Title: War god.]

[Strength: 115] [Stamina: 112]

[Agility: 114] [Intelligence: 115]

The Burton family was shocked. Just who had the audacity to attack one of the seven great families.

“Who the hell are you?!” The aged Nathaniel shouted.

“Your foolishness hasn’t changed over the years, dear Nathan.” Arthur replied with a sing -song voice, one that alongside the situation felt like a call of death.

Turning to the still bodyguards, he yelled, “What are you doing?! Get rid of that person immediately!”

Obeying his order, the guards rushed at Arthur attempting to subdue him, but that was when it began.

The hall was filled with the sounds of pained groans and bones breaking.

With each step the war god took, seven men fell at his feet.

A few unfortunate ones lost their body parts and fainted as a result of the pain. The ones who were luckier were knocked out or met their demise immediately.

The scene felt so unreal as Arthur approached the Burton family while using just his hands to put down the guards, that Nathan felt like the grim reaper had come to claim his soul.

And the only aspect he was wrong in was that it wasn’t the grim reaper, it was the war god.

Standing before the Burtons, the icy murderous aura that Arthur exuded held them all in place. He turned to Nathaniel’s son and ordered, “Take the children inside and remain there.”

Without missing a beat, he did as he was ordered, leaving behind Nathaniel and his wife.

“The painting from the Rhyfel family, bring it to me, now.” Arthur’s cold tone pushed her to her feet immediately and she scampered off to fulfill the errand he gave her.

“Your head is awfully high, Nathaniel, bow.”

He didn’t understand how he moved that fast, but Nathaniel only realized afterwards that his forehead was on the ground. The fear of Arthur that had kept him rooted, moved him to obey immediately.

Nathaniel knew in his heart, the man before him was not one to be trifled with.

Arthur’s cold gaze was one that reflected the bloodshed he had seen and the one that for the most part he was the cause of.

“Ten years ago, Uther Rhyfel paid for the mistake of showing you mercy when you tried to bring him down. I may carry his blood but expect no mercy from me.”

His icy murderous voice held Nathaniel in place, despite the shock from the revelation.

Without missing a beat, Arthur pulled a blade and looped off his head.

Blood spilled all over the ground and his wife screamed upon seeing Nathaniel’s body. He took the painting from her and walked out of the villa, pulling the list from his coat and going over it.

The system window popped up with a chime. [Mission complete.]

“Who’s next?”
