Chapter 30. A New Ally.

As Ravenna walked into the living room, where her father and Marcello sat talking in whispers, it was as if they weren't there. She took her seat on one of the couches, staring in a daze.

Lucian stared at her for a while, but when he didn't capture her attention, he signaled to Marcello to leave. Marcello complied quickly and quietly.

"Sweetheart," Lucian called slowly, as if afraid she might explode. He knew what that look meant. It was evident she was having a bad day. After the clash between them on the day Damian visited, they had been avoiding each other like strangers, even though they lived in the same house.

"Baby," he called again as he walked toward her, noticing the tears that had started to stream freely.

"Ravenna," he called out now, his tone more intense. He hated seeing his precious daughter like this. Slowly, she looked up to meet her daddy's face, then burst into loud sobs. "I hate him, daddy."

"Oh, my sweet," he drew her into his arms, stroking her hair.

"It's fine.
