Damian let out a sudden laugh as he clapped and shook his head. "You should see your face right now; you look like you just saw a ghost," he chuckled as Ravenna looked away from him without replying.

"What was that? Was Damian playing with her? How come he has become like this?" She tried to steady her heart, which thumped as if it would burst out of her chest.

"I don't enjoy jokes like that. It might be bad for the baby," she finally spared him a glance after a moment of silence. Damian raised his brow as if he didn't understand.

"Sure," he shrugged. "I'll take note of not making silly jokes. But be sure you ain't fooling me, Ravenna," he said in a teasing tone, even though within him, he felt a growing sense of loneliness at the thought that the child might not be his. His momentary happiness that a little one who was half like him would come into this world would be taken away.
