Chapter 12

Cassie looked through the winded down glasses and immediately when she recognized Bruce and Jonathan in the car, her shock quickly turned to bitterness. She crossed her arms and smirked, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Well, look who’s here. The so-called Gusman brothers, all high and mighty in your fancy car.”

Bruce knew exactly what was going on in her mind, and with the looks on her face, she was definitely on some kind of drugs. He stared at her, unimpressed. “Cassie, I know you've sniffed some of those white substances again, just walk away. Don’t embarrass yourself any further.”

But Cassie wasn’t done. “Embarrass myself? Oh, please! You two are the biggest embarrassments I’ve ever seen. A couple of idiots who can’t even park properly. Maybe you should use your billions to pay for some driving lessons, huh?” Her words came with jealousy.

Jonathan looked up at her more disappointed than he ever thought he'd be “Cassie, you’re making a fool of yourself.”

She rolled her eyes, taking a step closer to the car. “You think I care? I have nothing to lose. I already begged for forgiveness, Bruce. You turned me away, so now, screw you both! You’re going to regret this.”

“Going to regret what?”

“You're gonna see soon.”

“Is that so?” Bruce said, his tone icy.

“Yes!” she snapped. “Because I’m going to get my father out of prison. And when I do, he and I will make life a living hell for both of you!”

Before Bruce could say another word, she spit on the ground in front of them as a sign of disrespect, then stormed off toward the building as her heels clicked sharply against the pavement. Bruce and Jonathan exchanged a glance, they couldn't even say a word, they just shook their heads in disbelief.

Cassie’s energy hadn't faded yet, she entered the building looking more determined than she'd ever been her entire life, taking in the pristine marble floors and the buzz of professionals moving about in tailored suits. The whole environment was so formal and serious, way more serious than Salvator Construction Company could ever dream to be. But she wasn’t intimidated. She headed straight for the receptionist with unshaken confidence despite her rough encounter with the Gusman Brothers outside.

“Hi,” Cassie said, placing a card on the desk. “I’m here to apply for the job vacancy.”

The receptionist was a young Japanese woman with perfectly coiffed hair and a polite smile. She took the card from Cassie and scanned it. Her fingers danced around on the keyboard as she ran a check. After a moment, she turned back to Cassie with a slightly raised eyebrow. She looked like she was about to deliver some bad news.

“Miss Salvator,” the receptionist said, “you already have a business registered under your name, Salvator Construction Company. Unfortunately, that makes you ineligible to apply here.”

Cassie’s expression faltered, but she quickly leaned in closer, lowering her voice to a whisper. “Listen, my company is bankrupt and I'm screwed. My workers are leaving every single day, and I really need this opportunity. Please, don’t turn me away.”

The receptionist looked at her with hesitation, but her professional demeanor quickly flickered with sympathy. After a moment, she handed Cassie back her card and nodded. “Alright. Your name is on the list. You’re safe to go in.”

Cassie exhaled in relief and made her way to the conference hall. “When I get this job, I'm gonna buy myself a new pair of shoes, new designers and I'll get a new car, then get a new boyfriend to show Bruce that my life is also moving just fine.” She mumbled to herself.

The environment was tense, with applicants seated in neat rows, all dressed in formal attire. Cassie chose a seat near the back, trying to blend in.

She glanced around and noticed how serious everyone seemed. As the murmurs in the room finally ended, an assistant walked to the front and spoke into the microphone.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the time has finally come for why we're all here, please welcome the owners of this company.”

Cassie immediately turned her attention to the stage, she wanted to see who owned the company, hoping it's someone she could give a shot at seducing so she could get favors.

But her expression completely changed when she saw who came on stage, she wasn't expecting to see who she saw.

Behold Jonathan and Bruce Gusman, stepping forward as the owners of the company.

Cassie’s heart dropped.

The Gusman brothers moved with confidence, their suits immaculate, their presence commanding. Cassie’s breath hitched as they took their seats at the head of the room while their names were displayed on a screen behind them.

“How could this be?” How could she come to apply for a job and the owners of the company happen to be the same people she just insulted a few minutes ago?

“I've missed this opportunity haven't I?” Her hands trembled, and she quickly lowered her head “Fuck me!” She hoped neither of them would notice her. Under her breath, she muttered again, “Shit.”
