Chapter 3. Useless Good For Nothing Lowlife

Chapter Three; Useless, Good For Nothing Lowlife

Santos smiled at his victor and swore to make him pay for humiliating him at his celebratory party.

But Lucas was not even worried about that, his biggest problem was that he had probably lost his job as the bar tender.

He constantly cursed himself for loosing his temper during the ride to the police station.

By the time they reached the police station, it was already twelve noon so no one attended to him, he was just dumped in the cold cell to spend the night.

Through out the night, he could not sleep, he was thinking of what would become of his fate.

What would Santos do to him this time? Would the

So what if he was released on bail? He did not have too much money to squander, he only had two thousand dollars from selling all their furniture and three hundred dollars that was remaining from the money his aunt left for him.

He wondered if the money would be enough for him to posts a bail for himself, if not there was nothing he could really do.

Consumed by these baffling thoughts, Lucas did not know that time has passed and it was already morning until a police officer came and banged at the burglaries of the cell.

“Hey you come out here”

The police dragged him out of the cell and took him to another dark room with only one chair and one dim light bulb.

He spent almost an hour there before a elderly man came in and practically forced him to answer a lot of questions.

Useless questions if you asked him.

Who would ever thought he’d be asked questions like;

“What is the name of your father?”

“How old are you?”

“Which hospital were you born?”

“Do you have any relative?”

“Do you know Baron family personally?”

“Do you have any birthmark?”

“Do you know who your parents are?”

It wasn’t really the typical question that he was expecting to be asked by the police officer.

But then again when he thought that he had never been to cell before, he didn’t give it much thoughts and answered all their questions truthfully.

He had hoped that they would at least find him sincere and secretly let him go before Santos goes there to personally look for him, he knew it would not be good for him.

Finally, they asked him the most puzzling question;

“Do you have a baby picture?” Luckily he had one with his aunty carrying him in his wallet. it was the best picture of her and him.

He showed it to the man asking him the absurd questions.

The man collected the picture, patted his head and left out without saying another word.

The police officer from earlier came back and brought him out of the dark room, he took back to the cell and locked the door.

Lucas was really confused about the proceeding of things.

For a whole day, he was locked up in that cell, no matter how much he called for help, the officers did not pay any attention to him.

Only occasionally when the police officer was tired of hearing his shouts, they’d come and try to shut him down.

But they never gave him a detailed explanation of what was happening.

He was already thinking of the worse, could it be that Santos had discovered the police station he was sent to and deliberately has them retain him, he really regretted his actions.

“Please officers, it’s not my fault, you can just let me go on bail, I promise I will not provoke any big shit again.”

“Sir please what is my fault?”

He was still shouting when suddenly two policemen came to front of his cell. One of them he remembered was the man who kept asking him numerous questions.

“Sir what is going to happen to me now? I swear ai am innocent”. He was already pleading like a a body, he hated it but he doesn’t want to spend another night in the cold cell.

“Don’t worry kid, this time you’ll be set free”

Huh?

Lucas was surprised? He looked at them with wide eye, they brought him out and returned his belongings to him, then they said he was free to go.

“Am I really free? Are you not going to ask for a bail money at least?”

He asked in bewilderment, but the man only smiled and sent him away.

“Leave this place before I change my mind and luck you back, would you rather the Santos kid deal with you?”

Hearing that, Lucas shook his head and hurriedly left the police station.

It was really suspicious that he’d be set free like that, but he tried to think positively, maybe my boss Mr. Boma had helped him this time.

He immediately took out his phone that was already cracked when one of Santos’ friend hit him from the back the other night.

He struggled to read the contact list from the cracked screen until he found Mister Boma’s number and dialed it.

“Hello boss, thank you very much for your help, I just got released and I will soon reach the bar and thank you personally, I also have to say sorry, I know that the fight must have affected your …”

“You are damn right you useless good for nothing lowly person, someone pities you and give you a job and shelter but what did you do? I just left for five minute and you had to pick a fight with Santos for goodness sake, couldn't you even find someone who was not so influential?

I don’t blame you, people like you are just a problem to the society, no matter how someone helps you, it’s useless because you’ll always be surrounded by misfortune.”
