11. Delivery Man

Chapter Eleven

“Damn it, I really need money to survive in this world “ Elijah thought before going to a public computer center located in a public library to apply for Jobs and he waited till he received an email through the public computer before he went for his first interview after applying 18 times.

Elijah sat across the table from the interviewer, trying to ignore the sweat that was dripping down the back of his neck, the man sitting across from him looked bored and unimpressed.

"Tell me," the interviewer said, tapping a pen against his clipboard. "Why do you think you're the right fit for this job?"

The young man swallowed hard, trying to steady his nerves. "Well, sir, I have a degree in business administration, and I've not collected my final results yet but I can assure you that I was the best student at Princeton University and I think my determination to be successful would be a valuable asset to your company."

The interviewer raised an eyebrow. "Determination to succeed with no work experience, huh? That's interesting. Tell me, have you ever closed a big business deal and with which company or Investment Institution? because you look like a drop out and a fraud”

Elijah hesitated, feeling a bead of sweat trickle down his forehead. "Um, well,I don’t have any business experience but I am a hard worker and I have the hunger to become successful so 'm confident I can do the job if you hire me." Elijah tried to sound convincing

The interviewer chuckled, leaning back in his chair. "Confidence is good, kid. But this job requires more than just confidence. It requires experience, and frankly, I don't see that you have it."

Elijah felt his cheeks turning red with embarrassment. He had been so hopeful coming into the interview, but now it seemed like it was all for nothing. He tried to salvage the situation. "I'm willing to learn, sir. I'm a hard worker and I'm willing to put in the time and effort to succeed."

The interviewer shook his head, a look of disdain on his face. "I'm sorry, but we're looking for someone with more than just willingness. We need someone who can hit the ground running, and frankly, I don't think you're the right fit for this job."

Elijah’s heart sank. He felt humiliated and dejected. He had thought he was prepared for the interview, but now it seemed like he had just wasted his time. He got up from the table, trying to hide the defeat on his face.

“But we have an opening for a delivery boy and you will also work part time in the company’s coffee shop …” the interview said

“But , I studied business administration and management…” Elijah began to say but Mr James, the man doing the interview signaled him to stop talking.

“You can leave if you don’t want to work as a delivery Man” he said dismissively

"Thank you for your time, sir," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

The interviewer didn't even bother to stand up or acknowledge Elijah as he left the room. The door closed behind him with a hollow thud, and he slumped against the wall outside. He couldn't help but feel like a failure on his way out when he heard the office people pointing fingers at him.

“Is he not the bastard son of William's family ?”

“He should have died along with his mother, what a shame” they kept insulting but this only made Elijah more eager for success and to prove his worth.

Walking down the bustling street, Elijah looked lost with disheveled hair and a frustrated look on his face as he made his way through the throngs of people.

He had just left another job interview, where he had been turned down yet again. The anger inside him was boiling over, and he clenched his fists in frustration. He kicked a stray can on the sidewalk, sending it clattering down the street.

As he walked, he glanced around at the buildings and storefronts, looking for any sign of a "now hiring" sign. He spotted a small cafe on the corner and his heart quickened with hope. Without hesitation, he walked inside and up to the counter, where a tired-looking woman was wiping down the counters.

"Excuse me," he said, trying to keep his voice calm. "I'm looking for a job. Do you know if you're hiring?"

The woman shook her head wearily. "Sorry, kid. We're not hiring right now."

The young man's frustration boiled over. "What the hell am I supposed to do?" he muttered under his breath. "I need a damn job."

He stormed out of the cafe, his mind racing with desperation. He needed to find work, and fast. He couldn't keep living like this, constantly on the edge of poverty.

As he walked down the street, he saw a group of young people laughing and chatting outside a trendy restaurant. They looked carefree and happy, and for a moment, he felt a pang of jealousy. He longed to be able to afford the luxuries that they took for granted.

But he pushed the feeling aside and continued his search. He knew that he had to keep trying, that he couldn't give up. “I guess becoming successful and wealthy is very hard , that’s why the rich people are always arrogant and acting like some kind of almighty gods.

Making money is very hard and only lucky people or people from already wealthy families succeed in this life. Elijah is from a wealthy family but they despise him and now he has to start from scratch before he begins to unleash his revenge.

After a long and unsuccessful day looking for a job, Elijah was so hungry and he didn’t get any job so he decided to go back to Mr James and take the delivery job.

“Atleast , I will have some free coffee to drink when I’m hungry” Elijah said before going trekking under the hot scorching sun back to Mr James office to take the delivery job at the company’s coffee shop.

Unknown to Elijah, working in the coffee shop as a delivery guy will be the beginning of a new nightmare to him.
