9. The Black Ring

Chapter Nine

“Where did you get that ring from ?” Godfather Roberto asked with a thunderous voice while his bodyguards held Elijah’s arms in place and so tightly that he couldn’t fight or move anywhere.

“What ring are you talking about ?” Elijah asked, looking confused for a brief second.

"Young man," the elderly Godfather Roberto spoke with a gravelly voice, each word measured and deliberate. "That ring on your finger... it holds secrets. Secrets that no one knows about.."

The young man swallowed hard, his mouth dry, and he met the older man's gaze, attempting to hide his fear. "I... I don't know what you're talking about," Elijah stammered, his voice barely a whisper.

Godfather Roberto’s thin lips curled into a sly smile, his eyes narrowing.

"You expect me to believe that, lad? I have eyes everywhere. That ring, it's no ordinary piece of jewelry. It belonged to a great family and it has been missing for years , where did you get it or who did you stole it from ?"Godfather Roberto asked the insulting and humiliating question.

“How dare you call me a thief huh? Just because you’re standing there all high and mighty doesn’t give you the right to call me a thief. My mother gave me this ring before she died , this is the last thing of hers that I have which reminds me of her sweet memories “ Elijah fearlessly talked back at the man.

“No one dares talk back at me , do you know who I am ?” Godfather Roberto asked and Elijah shaked his head before whispering a soft No.

“I don’t know who you are but kindly let me go, I don’t know why you brought me here without any reasons and to make the matter worse , you’re calling me a thief “ Elijah said , his voice filled with so much frustration.

“I don’t have your time young boy so give me the ring and I will let you go” said Godfather Roberto but Elijah was too stubborn to agree, he doesn’t want to give a random stranger the only thing his mother left behind.

“No, I can’t give you this ring because it is precious to me and reminds me of my late mother “ said Elijah and one of the bodyguards hit him behind his knees painfully before he finished talking.

“You either give it to me freely or my boys will forcefully collect it from your fingers “Godfather Roberto threatened but Elijah’s mind was already made up.

“This belongs to my mother and now to me , I won’t give you and besides why is a wealthy man like you interested in a black ring that doesn’t even look expensive or looks like a diamond?” Elijah asked because he couldn’t see anything special about the basic looking ring with a black gemstone.

“Boys , get me the ring” Godfather Roberto ordered his bodyguards

Elijah stood, his heart pounding with an unyielding determination. His eyes, a fiery reflection of his spirit, locked onto the group of ruthless bodyguards advancing towards him.

Elijah's fingers clenched tightly around the black ring on his finger, a precious heirloom passed down from his late mother.

It held sentimental value beyond measure, a symbol of their unbreakable bond. As the bodyguards closed in, their cold, calculating eyes betrayed no hint of mercy.

The first bodyguard lunged forward, his massive frame poised to overpower Elijah. With swift reflexes, Elijah sidestepped the attack, his lithe form dancing with agility.

He retaliated with a quick jab to the bodyguard's ribs, momentarily staggering him. A surge of adrenaline coursed through Elijah's veins, amplifying his strength and sharpening his senses.

Another bodyguard lunged, his fists swinging towards Elijah's face with deadly precision. Time seemed to slow as Elijah instinctively blocked the blows, his arms acting as a shield against the onslaught.

Each collision resonated through his body, yet he refused to yield, fueled by an indomitable spirit.

Seizing a momentary opening, Elijah executed a lightning-fast combination of strikes. His fist connected with the bodyguard's jaw, followed by a powerful knee to the midsection. The bodyguard crumpled to the ground, clutching his wounded abdomen in agony.

However, the remaining bodyguards closed ranks, surrounding Elijah with an impenetrable wall of muscle.

Their grim expressions reflected their intent to wrest the black ring from his possession at any cost. It was a battle of wills, a clash between a lone warrior and a formidable force.

Undeterred, Elijah pivoted on his heel, his movements fluid and deliberate. With every step, he deftly dodged their thunderous blows, weaving between the bodyguards with the grace of a dancer. His determination became palpable, radiating from him like an aura of invincibility.

In a desperate attempt to subdue him, one of the bodyguards lunged forward, grappling Elijah in a vice-like grip.

Elijah's muscles strained against the overwhelming force, his breath labored but unwavering. Summoning every ounce of his strength, he broke free, sending the bodyguard sprawling to the ground.

The remaining bodyguards exchanged wary glances, recognizing the indomitable spirit burning within Elijah's eyes.

They charged simultaneously, their fists striking with brute force, seeking to overwhelm him through sheer numbers. But Elijah evaded their attacks with an uncanny intuition, striking back with precision and ferocity.

With a resounding kick, Elijah incapacitated one bodyguard, while a swift punch left another reeling in pain. The battle raged on, the alley echoing with the symphony of grunts and collisions.

Blood trickled from cuts on Elijah's face, mingling with the sweat that drenched his brow. Each strike he received was matched with equal determination, propelling him forward.

As the final bodyguard lunged, desperation etched across his face, Elijah met the assault head-on.

Their fists collided, a clash of titans. Elijah's eyes locked onto the bodyguard, his gaze filled with unyielding resolve. In that moment, he summoned an inner strength he never knew existed.

With a sudden burst of energy, Elijah disarmed the bodyguard, sending the black ring spinning across the concrete ground.

He lunged towards it, his fingertips grazing its smooth surface before clasping it tightly in his hand. The ring represented his mother's love, her legacy, and he would not allow it to be taken away.

“Arghhhhh” triumphant roar escaped Elijah's lips as he fought off the last bodyguard, leaving him sprawled, defeated, on the pavement. The alley fell silent, the only sound the ragged breaths escaping from Elijah's lips. He stood tall, battered and bruised, but victorious.

A sense of calm settled within him as he gazed down at the black ring, a testament to his strength and resilience. It was a symbol of his mother's unwavering love, a bond that could never be severed.

With renewed determination, Elijah slipped the ring back onto his finger, knowing that as long as it adorned his hand, he would face any challenge head-on.

“Can’t believe I did that!” Elijah whispered with so much joy even though blood was slipping from his nose and there were bruises all over his face, the suit he was wearing looked so tattered with several cuts on it.

“Can I go now?” Elijah asked Godfather Roberto who was standing without moving an inch while he watched Elijah single handedly managed to beat his ruthless bodyguards

Elijah felt a tip of a steel on the back of his head and his body immediately went stiff when he noticed what it was

“You move and he will shoot “ said Godfather Roberto and he clearly means it.

“Damn it!” Elijah hissed while one of the wounded bodyguards went and dragged the black gemstone ring out of his fingers and gave it to Godfather Roberto.

“ I will contact you if my team check out the ring and confirm its origin “ said Godfather Roberto

“But you don’t even know me!” Elijah complained out of frustration, all the fight was for nothing, total waste of energy.

“ That’s none of your business besides I must commend your fighting skills, it reminds me of someone “ said Godfather Roberto before he stepped out of the door while whispered bodyguards followed him leaving Elijah behind.

Everyone at the party went quiet when they saw Godfather Roberto coming out with his men without Elijah, everyone assumed the worst and no one dared to ask questions.

Some even started whispering and murmuring that he is dead, but some few minutes later with bruises all over his body, Henry and Nicki were the first to start laughing at him while others gossipped silently.

“What happened to you there ? Did you collect a loan from them ? Don’t you know how dangerous they are ? Oh my goodness, you look all battered and covered in blood” Selena complained with concern even though people kept staring at them with judgmental eyes.

“Let’s go home” Elijah said to his new wife and she agreed nodding her head as she and Elijah headed for her luxurious and expensive looking car.

“Where is your address? “ Selena asked and Elijah took a deep breath before answering Selena.

“Selena, I don’t have a house or an apartment“
