The anger flared up as he got off from the property of the Rex family's villa, so much that he could hardly breathe properly.
His mind was already settled now, and there was absolutely nobody who was going to change his decision now.
He had decided that he was going to accept Grandpa Lawson's proposal and marry Rachael.
Soon, he got to the road and boarded a cab that was heading to the Batesville group of companies.
Staring at the street that laid before him, he didn't realize when they got to the Villa.
Paying off the driver, he walked gradually over to the gates, his feet barely touching the ground, but when he got there, the security crossed him.
“What are you doing here?” One of the security guards, who seemed to be their leader from the badge that he was wearing walked up towards him.
“I'm here to see Rachel,” Walton replied, thinking that it was a normal procedure that everyone had to go through.
But it turned out that he was mistaken.
The eyes of the security officer made a quick sweep at him, from his head to his toe, and his face twisted into a scornful frown.
He murmured under his breath. From the way that the young man was standing right before he was dressed, he thought that he was some poor beggar who wanted to beg money from the rich heiress.
They had tons of them streaming into that place daily.
“Why don't you just tell us that you are here to beg already? Like the rest of your crew?” He ventured as the frown that was hanging on his face deepened even more.
Walton's facial expression twitched all of a sudden.
“Pardon?” He muttered the words from his lips.
“Why do you believe that everyone who is not luxuriously dressed is here to beg?” He noted, his anger gradually flaring up.
With the frown still hovering on his face, the head of the security agents went ahead to say.
“Just take a really good look at yourself. What makes you think that you can even afford to see Miss. Rachel?” He mocked.
“Can he even lick the dust off from her shoes?” Another said, and they all burst into laughter.
“He would be privileged too.” Another one of them added.
The laughter echoed in his hearings multiple times, increasing his anger until he could no longer control it.
He knew already that there was only one thing that he could do now. He brought out his cell phone from his pocket and placed a call across to Rachel.
They watched him with scorn on their faces, thinking that he was just trying to put up a stage play to frighten them.
How pathetic.
Meanwhile, Rachel picked up the call almost immediately, as though she had always been waiting for the call.
“Hello, Walton.” He could sense her smile even though she was not seeing her face.
“Hello, Miss. Rachel, can you please meet me up just outside your gate?” He inquired…
Rachel was strained with so much shock, as she never believed that he was going to come and see him that way.
“You are outside?” She inquired swiftly. A little bit confused as to why he didn't just come into the Villa directly.
“Yeah. The security officers stopped me from coming to him.”
The words sent shockwaves down her spine. But her astonishment soon melted into flaring anger as she exclaimed and said.
“What! I will be there right away.” She finally said.
Walton returned his phone to his pockets, shooting multiple stares at the security officers, who were still laughing at him.
“What was he thinking? That we were going to fall for that?” They laughed.
But soon, a strong aura walked into the place, pulling all of them into a sudden pause.
Even without looking up, they could already tell who it was, and they bowed their heads immediately, literally stuttering at her presence.
“Miss.Rachel.” They said,
But her countenance did not entertain their pleasantries.
“There is nothing good about the day punks. Raise your head. Everyone one of you.”
Immediately she spat out the words from her mouth, they obeyed the orders without any form of hesitation.
“Now tell me, which of you dare to prevent my guest from coming in?” She thundered.
They shivered seeing how angry Miss. Rachael was, and they had never seen her that way before, making their racing hearts go faster.
“Guest?” They stared at each other confused.
“We haven't seen anyone today, ma'am.” The leader replied.
Walton, who was standing overhead, was stunned by the words that he just spat out from his mouth.
Had he suddenly become a phantom that they could not notice?
Rachel soon shot a glance at them and then back at Walton.
A swift slap landed on the face of the security officer to the surprise of everyone present there.
Their hearts were literally on their palms, stricken with so much disbelief.
“Just take a look. You dare to treat my most highly welcomed guest in this Villa and even behave as though he doesn't exist?” She thundered at them.
They fluttered right on the spot that they were standing, knowing how much trouble they had gotten themselves into.
They swiftly fell to the floor, shivering on their knees.
“Please forgive us. That was not what we intended to Miss. Rachel.”
“Not what you intended? Are you now trying to say that I am blind and didn't know what I saw for myself?” They flung up her anger even more in an attempt to bring it down.
More sweat poured out from the face of the chief section officer as he didn't know what he was going to do this time.
He could feel his heart racing faster and he bowed his head.
“I didn't realize that he was an acquittance of yours, Miss. Rachel. I would have treated him better.
I promise that this behavior is certainly not going to repeat itself.” He said.
Her face relaxed, and they soon thought that everything was over already, but it turned out that they were mistaken.
“Certainly, it's not going to happen again because you are laid off. I am going to pick a replacement when I deem it fit.” She added.
The words were like a stab right through his heart, and she shivered terribly.
With his years of experience, he already knew that he could get a job apart from that one, but one thing that he knew was the fact that he was not going to get a job as good as this one.
“Please, ma'am. Please forgive me.” He pleaded multiple times, but all his pleadings fell on deaf ears as it was already far too late.
Afterward, she turned around to the rest of the crew.
“You all should better start apologizing to the rightful person if you all don't want to end up like him,” Rachael growled.
They stormed off towards Walton and bowed slightly before him.
“Please forgive us master, for being so stupid and treating you badly.” They apologized swiftly.
Afterward, Rachael led Walton over to the office and offered him a seat.
“What do I owe this great visit?” Her face was already replaced with a beaming smile.
Walton went ahead to tell her the reason that he was there without wasting any more of their time.
“I have given it a lot of thought and I want to accept the proposal and get married to you, Miss. Rachel. I am already tired of being poor and pathetic.” He said.
“Really?”
Her face was lightened up with so much joy and excitement, that she reached out to her cell phone that was lying at the end of the table and placed a call across to her grandfather.
“Walton accepted the proposal to get married to me.” She said,
Even without him being present physically, she could already tell that the face of her grandfather was embroidered with a lot of smiles and joy.
“That's great.” His lit-up voice came up.
“I will get a team to make an organization for the grandest party that the city has ever seen.” Grandpa Lawson finally said.
******
The news already spread throughout the town like widespread fire.
Head turned and gossip flung from side to side. The party was going to cost a total of about ten billion dollars, the most expensive that the whole of the city has ever witnessed since it was built.
But there was something off about this party, no one knew who the groom of Rachel was going to be.
It seemed as though he had been hidden from the eyes of the public.
But there was something that every one of them knew for sure. It had to be someone who was from a very wealthy and influential family, for sure.
Everyone could not wait for this day to come. Getting tickets was more like fighting a thug of war, and only people who had enough connection were able to get it.
The Rex family had gone through every single odds to get these tickets.
Apart from the fact that they were going to see the wealthy groom of the popular Miss. Rachel, this was their chance to be acquainted with the biggest company in the city and secure themselves contract to be part of the second class family in Delos.
Finally, the day came. The venue was designed with colors of white and splashing gold, decorated with everything beautiful.
The wedding hall was opulently decorated with luxurious materials such as silk, satin, and velvet. The color scheme was screaming wealthy, deep tones like burgundy, gold and royal blue. The lighting in the hall was elegant and dramatic, with chandeliers, candelabras, and soft, flattering spotlights and the seating was arranged according to the hierarchy of each family in Delos.
The seatings was comfortable and lavish, with plush chairs and ornately decorated tables and the overall ambiance of the wedding hall was exuding luxury and sophistication.
An hour before the wedding ceremony began, the wedding hall was filled with excitement as guests, dressed in their finest attire, settled into their luxurious seats. The air was filled with sense of anticipation as they all eagerly awaited the start of the grand event.
As the minutes passed by, the hushed murmurs of the crowd grew quieter, and a reverent silence decended upon the hall. All eyes were fixed on the decorated entrance, where the groom was about to make his long-awaited appearance.
Finally, the doors swung open, and there stood Walton, transformed in every conceivable way. He was dressed in a tailored tuxedo to hat exuded sophistication and elegance, he carried himself with a newfound confidence and poise.
The subtle glint of wealth emanated from his impeccable attire, hinting at the newfound prosperity that had graced his life.
His gaze swept across the hall, locking onto Lilian who was seated beside Silas and the distinguished members of the Rex family who were seated at the second row. As their eyes met his, a collective gasp escaped from their lips, their expressions frozen in a mixture of astonishment and disbelief.
" What!" The word slipped out of their mouths at the same time, punctuated by an exclamation, as they struggled to comprehend the remarkable transformation of their ex son-in-law.
The sheer magnitude of Walton's transformation left them transfixed, their minds reeling with shock and bewilderment.
Walton smiled at them knowingly making Lilian almost collapse to the ground, but she didn't because Silas held her from falling so as not to embarrass the whole family inside the wedding hall.
As Walton made his way down the aisle, the whispers and murmurs began to fill the hall once more. The guests were all in awe of the change that had come over the poor and belittled son-in-law of the Rex family. It was as if he had shed his old self and emerged as a completely different person. The air was charged with a sense of anticipation, everyone watched with bated breath as he took his place at the altar.
Lilian couldn't tear her eyes away from Walton. She had known Walton for three years, and she had never seen him like this before. His transformation was nothing short of miraculous, and she couldn't help but feel a pang of regret for not being a part of it.
Silas, on the other hand, watched with a mixture of surprise and suspicion. He had always been wary of Walton, and this sudden change only heightened his sense of unease.
As the ceremony began, the bride walked in and the atmosphere in the hall shifted once again.
The solemnity of the occasion seemed to amplify the impact of Walton's transformation. It was as if he had stepped into a new life, leaving behind all the pain and hardship that had plagued him in the past.
His vows were spoken with a conviction that sent shivers down the spines of the guests, and Rachel found herself holding her breath as she listened to his promises of love and devotion towards Rachel.
As the ceremony drew to a close, Walton and his bride exchanged their first kiss as husband and wife.
The room erupted into applause, and Lilian felt a bitter pang in her heart. She couldn't shake the feeling that she had missed out on something truly extraordinary.
Then Walton,a generally kind hearted person bent on taking revenge, flashed a mischievous smile at lilian and she instantly got it. She knew something would be wrong but she still counted on her Family's riches-oh her Family? She looked at her mum but she avoided eye contact with her, her Father was doing the same. They all couldn't eat at the party, just a few crumbs and that was all. A sensation of guilt ran through them all. They all decided it was time to leave. Indeed it was but they were stopped by a courier boy. He explained he had a parcel for them that the Groom wished to give them. Lilian snatched it but Her Father instructed her not to open it until they arrived home. Barely getting home,Lilian tore the parcel open, and brought out what looked like some important document but it wasn't. She discovered the same word was written all over and over again. Silas went through the papers and confirmed it and so did Rhea. Lilian dumped the parcel on the floor asking the ma
Tap, tap, tap! Three successive silent but audible knocks landed on Mr. Rex's gate just a few minutes past 8 in the morning. Usually, the postman would have dropped the mails in the mailbox neatly carved outside, so Silas couldn't understand why he decided to knock this time around.Who else would it be? Peasants wouldn't come knocking at their door at any time of the day, let alone early in the morning. The second set of knocks disrupted his thoughts, and he finally stood up and yawned on his way to the gate.Yuck! he blurted out. It was the cops, and most importantly, Walton. He couldn't even take a second glance at him; he felt sick instantly. By this time, the cops demanded that he lead the way, and he obliged. None of the rest of the family were awake yet.The leading sergeant asked for Mr. Rex, and Silas replied that he was still in bed. Mr. Rex woke up with a start, feeling dizzy, but Silas kept pressing that his immediate attention was needed in the living room, without darin
REX MANSION“ Hey you piece of trash, come here this minute” a loud voice could be heard from the sitting room and almost immediately a man ran as fast as his legs could get him to the sitting room.“ You called for me mother” the man bowed his head and the woman who called him snorted in annoyance.“ Do I look like your mother, you bastard! Don't you know your mother if you see her?” She shouted, but the man said nothing.“ Silas, the son of the Marcus family would be visiting today, make sure you prepare the meals quickly before his arrival. I want everything to be ready before he comes, if not, you would be dead” the woman said and dismissed the man with a finger. She is Mrs. Rex, the mother of Walton's wife, Lillian. She has been treating Walton like a slave in the Rex mansion, whereas, he is the husband of her daughter, Lillian.“ Get me a glass of juice” Mrs. Rex ordered with her legs crossed as she sat on the sofa reading a newspaper.“ On it mother” Walton replied, and Mrs. R
DELOS GENERAL HOSPITALAn elegant lady could be seen walking as fast as her legs to get her inside the hospital and her heels clicking, making a faint thud as she walked. As she passed by the nurses and doctors, they all bowed their heads and didn't raise it until she was out of their sight.About three to four bodyguards were behind her with her personal assistant who was trying to keep to her pace. The lady was putting on a tight red gown which stopped just a few inches below her knees. She has the most perfect porcelain skin and her black hair which was flowing behind her was soft and smooth as silk. Her sapphire blue eyes radiated her pale skin, making her look like a walking doll. She stopped walking when she got to the front of a ward, and she opened the door and walked into the ward and met a doctor attending to the old man who was unconscious with oxygen on.“ How is my grandfather?” That was the first word that left the lady's mouth, and when the doctor saw her, he bowed his
Walton stood there as if he was electrocuted. The receptionist was just fired because of him, and he just couldn't help but feel grateful and at the same time confused. The elegant lady wasn't someone he knew from anywhere because she looked like someone from a luxurious family, so why then did she help him?Walton kept staring at the lady until she walked to the place where he sat down. She squatted in front of him and stretched her right hand forward for him to hold and stand up.At first, Walton was hesitant, but nevertheless, he placed his hand on hers, and she helped him up.She turned around looking for someone and when her eyes landed on the person, she left Walton to go meet him.“ I am sorry, Miss Rachel. I will find someone competent for the job” the man who seemed like the manager apologized.“ I would rather not see her anywhere close to this bank, or I will shut it down” Rachel said and turned around, walking away.Walton had no option other than to follow her out of the
“ Yes, you did, and I and my grandfather would forever be grateful to you.” Rachel replied, and Walton's lips coiled into a smile.“ At least I didn't have a full bad day. Now I am also wealthy and could live the life I have always wanted.” He said and Rachel chuckled.“ Let's go” she said and Walton followed behind her.It took just twenty minutes to get to the hospital where Rachel's grandfather was admitted and soon enough, they were in front of his ward.Walton couldn't go in because he was nervous. Lawson Bates had always been his role model since he was a teenager, and he always wished to be more wealthy than Lawson Bates, but what life had in store for him was different from what he had dreamed of.“ Don't tell me you're nervous” Rachel asked amusingly and Walton inhaled sharply.“ Who wouldn't? I would be meeting the world's richest man today, and you want me to be composed without getting nervous? He is my role model since I was a teenager, so meeting him today, is a blessing
Lillian's words came to him from behind with a loud hiss. “The Patricia of the Rex family will be having his birthday tomorrow. And he wanted to see you do well to get that broken ass of yours off.” The initial frown on her face deepened. After the sudden pause, Walton nodded his head without turning around towards her.He nodded his head and sped off from the room. His next point of call was the bank, he needed to get some cash for his upkeep as soon as possible. He could already see the bank, which was not far from the vicinity, and he gradually made his way towards it. Nosing through the edging crowd that was littered in the place, he soon got to the receptionist's table, expecting the receptionist to recognize him from their previous encounter. But when her head was finally raised towards him. It turned out that he was mistaken. This was not the same receptionist who had attended to him ; they had been switched. The nose of the receptionist twitched with so much anger immediatel
