160. (2) The End of the Dominic

They both sat on simple wooden benches in the corner of the room. Jane recounted stories from the outside world, as if trying to bring a little light and warmth into Jaxson's confined life. She talked about the weather, about this and that.

Jaxson listened attentively, his face slowly coming alive with every word spoken by Jane. He longed for freedom, but in moments like these, with Jane by his side, he felt like there was no prison that could bind his love.

Indeed, Jaxson realized it. After all Jane had done for him, he had fallen in love with her. Even at his lowest point, Jane was his anchor, the light shining in the darkness.

As their time together was nearly over, Jaxson held Jane's hand tightly and confessed, "Jane, I'm afraid. I'm afraid of losing you, afraid of being alone."

Jane gazed at him tenderly, calling out, "Jaxson."

Jaxson returned Jane's gaze obsessively, in his shattered world, there was nothing else he wanted except the woman before him.
